The tentative plan is to add topamax after baby for the migraines and an added mood stabilizer boost. I am loving the possible side effect of weight loss as I am overweight, but I would be devastated if I lose my hair. I may have a migraine everday but they're not so bad I would hand over my hair for relief. Maybe I'll feel different if I can't hold my baby steady because I'm dizzy, but I'm not there yet. My question is have you experienced one or both of the side effects?

I use 0.5mg Klonopin as a secondary mood stabilizer to help with anxiety. I also take Abilify 15mg as the main dose.

However, a recent family even has gotten me wondering; would the Lamictal be a good enough mood stabilizer for me alone? My mother was on Celexa for depression and Topama for seizures, but was taken off of the Celexa because it was causing her problems. She's been free and clear of the Celexa for 3 months and is only on the Topamax and she hasn't had any issues since. In fact, she's the most stable she's been in a long time.

I may have a mood disoder but not be full blown bipolar. Will try to get an SSRI like Luvox or Paxil and see how it goes. My appt is in a few hours. In addition, I plan in seeing a different therapist. The psychologist took it very personal that I missed the appointment due to the panic incident.

So I'm on Tegretol for mood stabilizing and Topamax for migraines, I think my aggression and outbursts ar getting worse. I have been prescribed Topamax upon leaving a alcohol and drug rehab center along w an antidepressant . I am aware of the fact that it is a mood stabilizer however I was told that it helps with cravings for alcohol also . Is this true? Is this a drug that can help alcoholics with their cravings ?

the wellbutrin has no effect on me at all and i was actually wondering about topamax. i have tried almost every antidepressent and nothing. but i never thought about a mood stabilizer nor my doc apparently so if anyone has any advise or opinions about any bp meds that worked well for anyone but i don't want to take the ones that make you gain weight. i lost and maintained 130ib weight loss and don't want to gain any so.

I found however, that Topamax was not very effective in treating my mood swings, whereas, Lamictal was an excellent mood stabilizer for me. I am currently taking 400 mg. per day, which is the maximum dose. I also take Remeron, 10 mg. per day, which is an anti-depressant to help stabilize my depressive episodes and diazepam, 10 mg. 4 times a day to control my anxiety and panic attacks.

Hi, my psychiatrist just put me on Wellbutrin, and Topamax as a mood stabilizer. I know that weight loss is associated with both of those, especially the Topamax. I was ok with that, I've been wanting to lose about 30 lbs. anyway. But I'm on low doses of both, so I didn't expect to see much weight loss, if any, and especially not so quickly. My appointment at the psychiatrist was on October 7 and when they had me get on the scale there, it read 131 lbs.

Are you taking the Seroquel at a small dose at bed time as a sleep aid or at a regular dose to treat your manic and/or psychotic symptoms? Also what other medications are you on? Are you on a mood stabilizer? I have heard of doctors Prescribing more than one mood stabilizer at a time......

With Topomax one of the main concerns is gastritis but if that occurs it can be changed to another medication within a psychiatrist's discretion. If a person experiences any stomach pains the psychiatrist can see whether it continues or if it is this potential side effect. Some people I know experienced this concern. Some people tolerated it well.
