topamax

18440204 tn?1464888067 I just started using Topamax and Effexor together but it doesn't seem to be helping. I feel so lethargic and don't have much appetite. Has anyone tried anything else that works better?
Avatar f tn i'm on several medications: concerta 52 mg, topamax, and effexor. i am so tired still during the day. i'm also cold. i thought concerta would keep me focussed during the day; not still have me feeling lazy. what is wrong with me.
18440204 tn?1464888067 Hi All, Besides having horrible migraine pain, lights and sound are extremely painful. My neurologist has me on Topamax, Effexor, and Toradol self-injections (when pain levels exceed 8-9). Has anyone had any success with any other treatment? medications? I am willing to try anything....sigh..... thanks in advance.
18440204 tn?1464888067 I also have an accute sensitivity to light and sound, to the point where I am housebound most of my time, living in a semi-dark and soundless, controlled environment. My Neurologist and PCP put me on 150 mg of Topamax and 150 mg of Effexor. He also gave me Toradal vials to inject myself in the hip with 60 mgs when my migraines hit level 8 and above.
Avatar f tn After trying a few different anti-depressants for my migraines, my neurologist decided to try Effexor. Within a matter of few, I began to experience side effects, including weight gain. When I questioned my doctor about this, he felt it was unlikely that Effexor was the cause. So, I assumed it must be other meds I was on and continued to take it. Well, the side effects, including the weight gain worsened.
Avatar n tn You are asking if there is an anti-depressant that is the less likely to cause weight gain than Effexor. As you can see, Effexor is amongst the least likely to cause weight gain, and in fact, is known to contribute to weight loss. You may wish to try an alternative on the list above. It is unclear why anti-depressants cause weight gain.
Avatar n tn I started to gain weight immediately and gained 30 lbs. When my neurologist changed my Zoloft to Effexor because of my excessive sleepiness I lost back down to my 105 lbs within 6 months. I have to note that I was also prescribed around the same time Topamax to prevent migraines. This medication is known to help people lose weight and is actually prescribed as such in some countries.
Avatar n tn I suffer from chronic daily headaches and take upwards of 12 or more fioricet a day as well as topamax and effexor for prevention of migraines. Since my doctor will only prescribe up to 6 fioricet per day, I have resorted to orderly brand fioricet online as $200 for 90 tablets. My questions are how to detox at home off fioricet - should I take 12 tabs, then 11 the next day, then 10 the next day or what? Also, is it illegal to get fioricet from my doctor as well as ordering online?
596143 tn?1226648054 m on Topamax as well for mood stabilization and Effexor for the depression side of BP. I do know what you mean about the serotonin. I had an oral surgeon give me Tramadol once and it interacted with the Effexor to the point of Serotonin Syndrome. (Yet another reason to read, read and read ;) It's good to meet you and I'll keep you in my prayers. Say HI to the ocean for me. I MISS the shore desperately.
1690500 tn?1305906946 The withdrawal effects from Paxil and Effexor XR in particular are the worst. Withdrawing from Effexor XR using a low dose of Prozac helped a bit. You may want to tuck this piece of information away if you ever need it down the road. Before supplementing your regimen with 5-HTP, please discuss it first with your doctor. Although I believe you are correct regarding its association with serotonin, it's best to get the "ok" from your doctor.
596143 tn?1226648054 I took blood for tests and put me on cymbalta for the time being. I am now tappering off my Effexor and up to 60 mg of the cymbalta. I haven't gotten the test results back yet. anyway, my question is--Has anyone had luck with cymbalta? And does cymbalta work for fibro and cfs? Why isn't he referring me to a neuro or a pain mgmt doc?
407790 tn?1397761026 When I came off Effexor a few years ago I lost all the weight I gained quite quickly. This time, since stopping a few months ago, the weight is going, but slower this time. I don't think you will have problems losing the weight. Please take note of what Paxiled has said above about withdrawing slowly.
Avatar m tn now wants me to titrate down quicker to be able to switch over to effexor for migraines. So I am beginning to feel some of the discontinuation symptoms...upset stomach, headaches, slight more agitation. Mr. Dr wants me to get to 50 mg on zoloft before I introduce the effexor. Does anyone know if it is possible to do it sooner. Is there a risk of serotonin syndrome? I just do not want to have to go through all of this withdrawal stuff and then have to wait to build up on the effexor.

1125820 tn?1265284446 Divalproex sodium/sodium valproate is a first-line treatment in the anticonvulsant category because it is the most successful in that category, but Topamax is becoming very popular. Propranolol is the first-line treatment in the beta-blocker category, also because it is the most effective in that category. In the Calcium Channel Blocker category, Verapamil seems to be the most effective.

913054 tn?1242955793 I began taking Topamax for headaches and also to help with the weight gain from Effexor. About a month later, I realized the side effects were much greater than the help I was getting from the med so I began tapering off. I had read on the net from posters how horrible a med this is to get off and how long it takes to do it. I've been tapering off for about 20 days and just stopped 3 nights ago. Sick of that silly pill. The med caused me to turn into some kind of monster.
Avatar f tn Hello,`I am new at this soo.. i was diagnosed a yr ago and was put on effexor that didn't help, and serequel for racing thoughts. then my doc put me on wellbutrin xr that was ok for a couple of months but my depression has worsed tremendously and i am taking wellbutrin xr 200 mg, serequel 50mg, and clonapin. the wellbutrin has no effect on me at all and i was actually wondering about topamax. i have tried almost every antidepressent and nothing.
Avatar n tn There are migraine preventive medications available like Topamax and beta blockers which however need to be used with caution. Apart from these magnesium supplemsnt and Migravent which is a natural supplement have shown good results. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.
