Tobradex steroid

Common Questions and Answers about Tobradex steroid

tobradex

Avatar m tn You're chances are zero. Steroid glaucoma occurs only in "steroid reactors" which is about 6% of the population. It generally occurs only in people that remain on steroid drops for 4-8 weeks are more. In almost all cases in those people where it develops it goes away if the steroids eye drops are stopped. What you should worry about is "traumatic glaucoma" which can develop after an injury(s) to the eye. You should be having a yearly eye examination.
Avatar f tn / surgeon diagnosed as me as possible glaucoma. The pressure in my eyes was 24.5 . He started me on tobradex ST ( steroid drops) and Timolol Maleate. Then I used thera tears and systane during the day and the night time gel. As of last Friday I was doing fine, then my vision became blurry again and my left eye is like half open. ( looks like a lazy eye) never had it before. He says my inplants look great. yesterday i saw him my right eye had raised pressure to 26.
Avatar n tn On day 6, pressure was good according to my doc but today on day 13, pressure had gone above 30. My doctor said i would have to stop using Tobradex as the steroid has caused the raised eye pressure and prescribed instead Lotemax and Cravit to be used 6 times a day and Azarga 2 times a day. Upon reading, i just realised that Lotemax also contained steroid, so why is it given to me then? I have asked her and she said Lotemax rarely cause raise eye pressure. I am just not sure.
Avatar n tn Are steroids such as Maxitrol or Tobradex *supposed* to help with eye burning caused by dry eye or can it make your symptoms worse? I'm dealing with allergic conjunctivitis (again!) and dealing with burning eyes. thanks!
Avatar m tn It is not improving and he rubs it all of the time. I am a physician and was wondering if I should prescribe a steroid like tobradex or maxitrol for it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn My IOP was 40-Right Eye 42-Left Eye so he told me to stop the Tobradex immediately (I`m a steroid responder which we never knew before)) and gave me TIMOPTOL 2 Drops a day & increased the Alphagan to 3 drops a day. After 3 days he measured my IOP & it was 10-12. He also noticed the I have developed Uveitis in both my eyes. He said I must take FLUCON 6 times a day to heal the Uveitis & keep taking the other medication to reduce my IOP. IS this the right course of treatment?
Avatar n tn He put me on flax seed oil, allegra, restasis, sterilid and qtips, moisturizing eyedrops and tobradex. At one point he did tell me to slow down on the tobradex but I couldn't handle having such bloodshot eyes so he's allowed me to continue usage for the past year and a half while monitoring my IOP levels. I decided to try to wean myself off of tobradex again, but despite my bloodshot eyes he said that he didn't think I was experiencing rebound symptoms from the steroids.
Avatar m tn Will increased intraocular pressure due to Tobradex prescription (every 4 hrs, 10 days) subside naturally? Is the increase likely to be permanent and thus requiring treatment as a chronic condition? Appt scheduled for a glaucoma workup but concerned and seeking information until then. Thanks.
Avatar m tn No you should not use tobradex as the steroid in it can make herpes keratitis much worse if you do in fact have that. Suggest you add a antibiotic lid cleaner like Ocusoft Foam Eyelid cleaner or TheraTears SteriLid foam eyelid cleaner. Both available over the counter. Us one not need both; use at least 4 times/week when shower/bathe. You may need to get a new opinion about the cause from an Eye MD with a specialty in cornea and external disease.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with GPC 2 months ago and I've been using Tobradex for two months. My Opthamologist says my lids look better, but there is still some allergen there. He told me that I need to stop taking the Tobradex because apparently it's not good to take it for a long period of time. I've stopped taking it and my eyes are back to feeling awful. They didn't feel 100% back to normal on the Tobradex, but it helped!
Avatar m tn Steroid eye drops are very potent especially the durezol. Side effects can include steroid glaucoma. Get out the package insert or information from the pharmacist. It will list literally scores of possible complications.
Avatar m tn Long term steroid eye use like long term steroid use by pill form makes side effects almost inevitable. In the eye it includes cataracts, glaucoma and increased risk of fungus infections.
Avatar m tn So he said to do warm compresses, continue the Blephagel but already use Tobradex Drops (w/ steroid) for a week. I also complained that my eyes seem to be bad upon waking up, better during the day, then bad again in the evening. He asked if i read often and I told him that i work at least 5-9 hours a day in front of a computer since my job is in the I.T. Industry. He prescribed me Artificial Tears (Systane Ultra) to reduce my Dry Eyes.
Avatar f tn My ophthalmologist diagnosed me with viral eye infection and prescribed me TOBRADEX. I used TOBRADEX 3 times a day for the first two days, then 1 time a day for another 3 or 4 days, and then stopped. Week of 3/31/14: My right eye became red and swollen. I went to see a new ophthalmologist and was told that I just had to wait for my body to fight the virus. No medicine was prescribed.
Avatar n tn My doctor will do further surgery to remove it but will it come back? I was put on pred-forte and tobradex after the june surgery., Did these steriods cause this scar? What can be done so it doesn't come back. Thanks, I am really depressed about this.
Avatar f tn The tobradex is completely out of your system after 6 days. But your symptoms are very disturbing. I would return for another exam or seek a second opinion with another ophthalmologist.
Avatar n tn I had an eye infection(eye redness) and my doctor pescribed me Tobradex for 5 days. The eye redness is gone now but I'm having problem now on my right eye Problems are blurred vision ,eye pain upon eye movement and a sensitivity to light. I searched on Google and found in many articles that the eye blurriness is one of the side effects of using Tobradex. My question is there anyone had the same problem of blurry vision? what precautions to take ? Is your eye is now ok?
Avatar n tn Likewise, I was given eye drops (TobraDex) after the floxin ear drops failed to clear up a resistant infection. I don't think it will hurt you, but mine burned a bit when I first put them in. My ENT said the eye drops have a steroid, so they it is more aggressive at killing infections. Anyways, after 3 weeks of the eye drops....even the eye drops hasn't fully killed the infection, so I guess I have a particularly nasty strain.
Avatar m tn The most important treatment is lid hygiene. Cephalexin probably will not help. The steroid in Tobradex may help short term, but this is not a long-term solution. Oracea is a slow release form of Doxy type drug and has less side effects. However, many insurances will not cover it. Topical Azasite if very effective. Dr. O.
Avatar n tn I was told that the eye itself looked very good...no infection/abrasions noted. I was put on Tobradex drops for pain management. I have not noticed any improvement with my eye since using the drops. I'm wanting to know if I should be seen by an opthamologist. Does an opthamologist treat problems associated with the eyelids/muscles when the eye appears to be healthy?
6869297 tn?1385577414 The choice of eye drops for ocular herpes is not a good choice. Tobradex has a steroid in it (dexamethasone) and steroids make HSV-1 WORSE and are contraindicated (in some cases steroids are used cautiously for intraocular herpes uvieitis or cornea stromal disease) but not the common superficial epetheial disease. If you see a non MD optometrist I suggest you see an Eye MD. If you see an Eye MD I would ask why he/she chose a steroid containing medication.
Avatar n tn I had eye surgery a month ago on 7/24/09. My doctor(opthamologist) pescibed tobradex to be used 4X daily. I put these eye drops in as directd. I have been using them now for a month. How long do I have to use this medicine? I am also using a tobradex ointment at bedtime. Can you plesae let me know? Frank.
Avatar n tn I respect your opinion on steroids, but my opth has monitored my IOP for 2 1/2 years of tobradex usage and i don't appear to be a steroid responder, although i realize that i'm always in danger of developing a problem. That's why i switched to Lotemax, so that there's even less risk involved in my using it for years to come.
