Common Questions and Answers about Tenofovir pregnancy

Avatar f tn Need advise from ladies who have been on tenofovir before and throughout pregnancy. The last I wish to know is for drugs makers to recall tenofovir for pregnancy after 10years (which is quite common). My preference is of course not to take any drugs at least while trying and during 1st trimester as this is the most crucial period for fetal development. Fear is naturally health of fetus, birth defetcs and abnormality.
Avatar m tn Can you post your history in Chronological order, including your e-antigen status. I've seen other members post about using Tenofovir during pregnancy, but I read some recent papers on the strategy during pregnancy, I will look that up for you.

Avatar f tn also telbivudine is looking for patients because another failure due to high rates of mutants and failure, telbivudine is also among the most unsafe for all patients due to sides tenofovir is the only one totally safe for pregnancy, no resistance and most potent.once started it is good to continue tenofovir after birth. be aware that with hbeag positive and high hbvdna your baby can get infected because vaccine fails with hbeag positive.
1191262 tn?1366763021 Also, my fiance is worried about any anomalies the new born may have during childhood even though pregnancy goes well (statistics show no evidence of any negative impacts on taking Tenofovir during pregnancy) how can we predict no impacts later on, any scientific explanation please?? Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn none, never happened and tenofovir is used since 2000, i guess it is the most used drug during pregnancy on the contrary if you dont take it there is a high chance of making the baby cronic hbv carrier for life
Avatar m tn Tenofovir is usually given at the start of third trimester, so you have to ask you doctor why he/she recommends an immediate start. However, many women do have exposure to Tenofovir throughout their pregnancy and generally it is safe. Some head size and bone mineral density issues in the newborn are noted. So it is very much a benefit and risk exercise when deciding to take Tenofovir before the recommended third trimester.
2022648 tn?1328711666 not allowed on pregnancy, only tenofovir (viread) is good on preganancy, no resistance, most potent on hbv and even much cheaper than entecavir, it is also about to lose patent so it may become as cheap as indian generics which are as low as 21usd per month peginterferon must be used after 3-5 years on tenofovir to work and clear hbv, hbsag is cleared in 50% peginterferon monotherapy can work only for very low hbsag and very low hbvdna otherwise it is useless to try just 7% hbsag clearance yo
Avatar f tn I have the same question but with tenofovir, my son just born and my wife is being treated with tenofovir, I worry that drug will may cause any negative effect to the baby :(
Avatar f tn Is it safe to take tenovofir during all the months of pregnancy? or Is it possible to stop during 1st and 2nd trimester to avoid any damage to the fetus and restart on 3rd trimester to prevent the transmission? What is the best strategy to manage the treatment during pregnancy without having any exposure to the development of unborn baby.. Can anyone share the experiece?
Avatar f tn My doctors are trying to convince me to take Tenofovir in the last trimester of my pregnancy. I'm really debating on if I should or not because of some of the side effects. I know this should be the last of my worries but I'm wondering if anyone taking Tenofovir has had the buffalo hump side effect. Any suggestions would help.
Avatar n tn Baraclude (Entecavir) is a class C drug for pregnancy, Tenofovir is class B. Doctors do not recommend Entecavir during pregnancy, so you may have to stop Entecavir if you are planning to have a baby. Tenofovir is recommended during the third trimester and many women had also taken it during the whole of pregnancy. Talk to your doctor.

Avatar f tn tenofovir to make hbeag negative and hbvdna undetactable so that vaccine has almost 0% chances to fail tenofovir is also good therapy for you with no resistance and 16% eradication at 2-3 years, check also hbvdna pcr and look for an expert liver specialist (there are very few really expert and most ignorant)
Avatar m tn Association of Higher Plasma Vitamin D Binding Protein and Lower Free Calcitriol Levels with Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Use and Plasma and Intracellular Tenofovir Pharmacokinetics: Cause of a Functional Vitamin D Deficiency? "The finding of a 26% increase in vitamin D binding protein and a 42% decrease in free 1,25-OH(2)D between the lowest and highest quintiles of plasma tenofovir has not been previously reported.
Avatar n tn Also if there is no pregnancy consideration, I would strongly advocate for a switch of Adefovir to Tenofovir. Tenofovir will be FDA approve for treating HepB hopefully soon. It is similiar to Adefovir but much more powerful with a better resistance profile. Resistance to Adefovir start to creep up after year 3. And once that happens, that will compromise Tenofovir as a treatment option. Good luck.
Avatar f tn t find a lot of information online on treatment during pregnancy, but she told me there has been studies and it's safe. The other thing that I'm scared about is breastfeeding after giving birth. I am told that it is okay to breastfeed even if you are HBV positive. My concern is this; I did some research and found that it is not good to stop medication, which is what I thought I would do after giving birth so that I can breastfeed.
Avatar f tn He is now a healthy chubby 13mth old. Tenofovir is also the only safe antiviral for pregnancy (category B drug).
Avatar f tn That is actually not much better than tenofovir vs tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, the actual substance in Viread. It is 50 times more potent than tenofovir. It is all this improper simplification of callling viread tenofovir. Tenovovir, if it would be given orally, would have no effect on HBV. TEnofovir if given intravenously or sc would still have almost no effect on HBV in the liver. the substance has a high negative charge and cannot easlily penetrate cell membranes.
367100 tn?1330914725 it is no trouble at all but you must take tenofovir if hbvdna is detactable or hbeag positive to prevent baby from getting infected and fail vaccine during pregnancy the woman immune system is suppressed to prevent immune system attacking the baby, this usually makes hbv increase a little in this period, tenofovir will block replication.
