Need advise from ladies who have been on tenofovir before and throughout pregnancy. The last I wish to know is for drugs makers to recall tenofovir for pregnancy after 10years (which is quite common). My preference is of course not to take any drugs at least while trying and during 1st trimester as this is the most crucial period for fetal development. Fear is naturally health of fetus, birth defetcs and abnormality.

The following is a paper from doctors in Francel. It said you can breastfeed whilst your are on Tenofovir because "Tenofovir is not absorbed in the breast milk". However, I have googled and cannot find any reference to this claim. All the best to you and your baby.

Tenofovir disoproxil and telbivudine are categorized as class B regarding safety in pregnancy and the other HBV drugs as class C. Lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil have not been shown to be associated with fetal abnormalities even when used during the first trimester of pregnancy.[73] (extracted from an article in Nature by Prof. Anna Lok]
3. So, I think Lamivudine is safe. You must consult your doctors, including your Obstetrician, they must work as a team to look after you and your baby.
Here the advise from my doctor regarding this topic - continue with the current medication Viread (tenofovir), monitoring laboratory tests every 6 months including creatinine, if the creatinine were to persistently increased by 0.2 or greater we can change to Vemlidy, TAF. Did you have kidney problem before starting Tenofovir? No worries as this will not resolved any problem... And everybody is different. We'll all react to this medication differently.
Tenofovir is usually given at the start of third trimester, so you have to ask you doctor why he/she recommends an immediate start. However, many women do have exposure to Tenofovir throughout their pregnancy and generally it is safe. Some head size and bone mineral density issues in the newborn are noted. So it is very much a benefit and risk exercise when deciding to take Tenofovir before the recommended third trimester.
TAF generic is available in India now. Its launched by Mylan as HepBest, it costs around Rs1500. Please contact Mylan representatives if any one need TAF in india.
Tenofovir will suppress your dna hopefully to undetectable... Not sure if you will lose the hbeag or not.... Someone who knows more about these meds will probs be able to help more.... My husb is on Tenofovir but he was already hbeag negative when starting but he has a mutation which made his dna rise..
My doctors are trying to convince me to take Tenofovir in the last trimester of my pregnancy. I'm really debating on if I should or not because of some of the side effects. I know this should be the last of my worries but I'm wondering if anyone taking Tenofovir has had the buffalo hump side effect. Any suggestions would help.
I have the same question but with tenofovir, my son just born and my wife is being treated with tenofovir, I worry that drug will may cause any negative effect to the baby :(
