Tenofovir combination

Common Questions and Answers about Tenofovir combination

truvada

Avatar m tn An international study found the antiviral combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine (Truvada) was most effective in treating younger adult hepatitis B patients with high viral load and normal ALT levels. Doctors historically have not treated this group because there appeared to be no sign of liver damage. However, doctors now know that high viral loads may increase patients’ risk of liver damage and cancer as they age, despite their normal ALT levels.
Avatar f tn You are correct that Truvada is a combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine, and is generally prescribed for patients with HIV. Being a HBV forum, most of us know very little about Truvada except that it is prescribed off-label for HBV by some doctors, and that it is recommended for HBV patients who develop resistance to Tenofovir.
Avatar f tn You can be cured from chronic Hepatitis B by treatment with a finite course of Pegylated Interferon, long term use of Tenofovir/Entecavir, a combination of PegIFN and Nucs, or naturally. But the cure rate is very low. New drugs and treatment methods with higher cure rates are needed.
Avatar n tn tenofovir, no resistance entecavir, 1,5% resistance but cannot be used on those using lamivudine because in this case resistance can go higher than 50% interferon if i had a doctor prescribing me such rubbish useless toxic.....i d destroy his life....
Avatar m tn Bazinet and colleagues[17] conducted a randomized, controlled trial assessing the safety and efficacy of REP 2139 and a REP 2139 derivative with improved clearance (REP 2165) infused once a week in combination with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and pegylated interferon alpha-2a in treatment-naive patients with chronic HBeAg-negative infection. This triple-combination therapy was well tolerated in all patients, and no infusion reactions were observed with either NAP.
Avatar m tn the only proven cure to clear hbv is tenofovir sequential treatment followed by interferon add on please stop spamming about herbs, there is no herb to clear hbv while combination of tenofovir+interferon has show 40% cure at 1 year combo already with increasing percentage in the following years, herbs 0% clearance proven for now
Avatar m tn My question is, is this the appropriate drug considering I have used this drug 10 yrs ago and also considering other combination options available today. My wife had a combination of Zeffix and hepsera when viral load was 17000iu/ml six months ago, she took the drugs for 3months and today the viral load is just 2000iu/ml. Please I ask if it is suitable for me to use lamivudine in my present situation ?
Avatar n tn The following is a paper from doctors in Francel. It said you can breastfeed whilst your are on Tenofovir because "Tenofovir is not absorbed in the breast milk". However, I have googled and cannot find any reference to this claim. All the best to you and your baby. Clin Res Hepatol Gastroenterol. 2011 Jun 7. [Epub ahead of print] Hepatitis B virus infection and pregnancy. Pol S, Corouge M, Fontaine H.
Avatar f tn My husband might be able to start trials for combination therapy next year... Specialist just said he has to be on Tenofovir for 3 years before he would qualify, he wouldn't say much more about it... My husband dna was 320,000 when he started meds, so quite high for hbeag neg and he had some liver damage so glad he started them when he did... Hopefully give his liver a chance to repair..
Avatar n tn My doctor suggests that I participate in the drug trial of Tenefovir (Viread) versus Tenofovir in combination with Emtricitibine (Truvada). I have chronic Hepatitis B and Lamivudine resistance last year. He gave me a document to read and I did a bit of research on internet on the side effect. My concern is the side effect especially on Kidney. Could you give me some advice if I should participate in the drug trial or stay with my current medicine Hepsera.
Avatar m tn the baby must have vaccine and hbig at birth if you plan to cure hbv and try to clear it check hbsag quantity in iu/ml by abbott architect and after you have the baby and finish breast feeding add interferon to tenofovir, hbsag quant decreasing will confirm clearance of virus and interferon must be kept until hbsag undetactable if no hbsag decrease by 24 weeks on this combination you can stop both interferon and tenofovir but with carefull monitoring of hbvdna ast/alt
Avatar m tn it is rationale to use the most potent ones like tenofovir or entecavir all other patients had hbsag after first year so low that it may go on and clear even with no therapies, hbsag around 10-30iu/ml, one around 300iu/ml one patient, did not respond, this patient was on adefovir+lamivudine, non response may be due to the use of thee weaker drugs and who knows maybe using tenofovir or tenofovir+entecavir, anyway it is just one who did not respond and he will be able to retry interferon later o
Avatar m tn In these 96-week data comparing entecavir monotherapy to combination of entecavir plus tenofovir, we found that combination therapy did not result in statistically significant difference in virologic response compared to entecavir monotherapy," Lok said in a press release issued by entecavir manufacturer Bristol-Myers Squibb.
181575 tn?1250198786 Atripla is a drug used to treat HIV. It actually consists of 3 drugs, emtricitabine and tenofovir (which also works against HBV) and efavirenz (doesn't work against HBV). Combination treatment is common practice for HIV so they combine multiple drugs into 1 pill. Of course Atripla is NOT an FDA approved therapy for HBV. Sometime in the future when the standard practice is combo treatment for HBV, they will combine entecavir and tenofovir into 1 pill and call it XcalibR 300.
Avatar m tn just an update here, in the past 2 days i have started a combination of entecavir and tenofovir without any sides.... i have also started vit d3 on 10,000iu perday.... i hope it works for me.... thanks Stef2011...
Avatar m tn There is a new version of Tenofovir in trials that is supposedly 200 times more potent than the TDF that is out now, boosting intracellular concentration, thus reducing any harmful renal effects: http://www.chimerix.com/therapeutic-programs/category/cmx157/ https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ihlpress.com%2Fpdf%2520files%2Fresistance08_presentations%2F06_Lanier_website.
Avatar m tn your doctors are crazy and used wrong drugs from start, sabvivo is a crap drug on cirrhosis because it makes resistance and never never be used as a firstline drug on any hbv carrier you do need a resistance test and use of a combo therapy because a resistance mutation can be deadly on cirrhosis, the best drug for you is tenofovir+entecavir combination and you should monitor creatinine from start and then every week first month and if no rise every month since you started with sabivo you migh
Avatar f tn The most common treatment in the US, Canada and the UK is Truvada. This is what is known as a "fixed-dose combination tablet" combining emtricitabine and tenofovir from the NRTI class, and raltegravir, from the integrase inhibitor class. There ARE alternative drugs available and possibly in Thailand they use lamivudine in place of raltegravir. I am definitely NOT a chemist, so I can't tell you for sure if the combination you're taking is appropriate.
Avatar n tn cmbid=4477) I heard Clevudine/Levovir (L-FMAU) might be more effective than Entecavir without the associated Baraclude carcinogen rumors. So that might also be worth waiting for...
