Avatar m tn Loss of bone mineral density (bone mass) has been documented in HIV-infected patients treated with tenofovir long-term. British researchers decided to monitor 122 tenofovir-treated hepatitis B patients to see if they also lost bone mass, and compare them to a control group of 48 untreated-patients. Both the control group and treated patients were scanned by X-rays to measure bone mass.
Avatar m tn However, many women do have exposure to Tenofovir throughout their pregnancy and generally it is safe. Some head size and bone mineral density issues in the newborn are noted. So it is very much a benefit and risk exercise when deciding to take Tenofovir before the recommended third trimester. There is a recent paper discussing these issues that you may find useful: Hepatitis B in Pregnancy Tram T.
Avatar f tn Lancet. 1992 Jul 4;340(8810):9-13. Long-term thyroxine treatment and bone mineral density. Franklyn JA1, Betteridge J, Daykin J, Holder R, Oates GD, Parle JV, Lilley J, Heath DA, Sheppard MC. Abstract Studies of the effect of thyroxine replacement therapy on bone mineral density have given conflicting results; the reductions in bone mass reported by some have prompted recommendations that prescribed doses of thyroxine should be reduced.
Avatar f tn it has no sides, only less than 1% experience lowering of gfr so kidneys function must be controlled every month for the first 6 months of therapy to see if kidneys experience a decrease in gfr (creatinine is not good because you can have lower kidnys function and normal creatinine), other sides is loss of bone mineral density but if you have active hbv even liver damage leads to loss of bone mineral density and lower vitamin D since this is only on less than 1% cases almost every drug can low
Avatar f tn The total bone mineral concentration is calculated at 921 grams and the bone mineral concentration per bone area is calculated at the 45th percentile in this child based on a lunar pediatric reference population. Can you please tell me what this means? Thank you!!
Avatar m tn There is a complex interplay between bone, endocrine, and renal physiology (Table 1). TDF use is associated with decreased bone mineral density (2–6), possibly caused by TDF-induced phosphaturia (7–14) with accompanying hypophosphatemia and osteomalacia (15–17). The phosphaturic hormone fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is not altered by TDF use (18, 19).
Avatar m tn Diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of osteoporosis is possible with the use of bone mineral density (BMD) testing and several effective treatments. The relationship between thyroid disease and osteoporosis is a controversial one. While it's accepted that significant periods of hyperthyroidism have an effect on bone mineral density and can increase the risk of osteoporosis, there is tremendous controversy over whether long-term use of levothyroxine (i.e.
691935 tn?1421027090 There were no significant differences between the groups in age or gender. Mean lumbar vertebral bone mineral density and mean z-scores in groups 1 and 2 before and after treatment were not significantly different. In both groups, serum and urinary biochemical values and bone markers were all normal and there were no differences between the pretreatment and post-treatment values.
Avatar m tn Members the first line oral anti viral for hepatitis b is tenofovir and according to doctor it is long life use. My question are 1) what is the efficacy and safety of tenofovir for says 10years or 15 years or 20years ? 2) what is the longest years of taking tenofovir that we have on record now?
Avatar m tn you hae always to consider things in the correct situation, tenofovir has only kidney damage in less than 1% patients and loss of mineral density in maybe less than 1%, your hbv infection makes liver cancer in more than 1% patients, doubles risk of leukemia, i don t remeber the percentage for cirrhosis....
Avatar m tn I'm on Tenofovir for past 7 Years and My Serum creatinine is 1.1 mg/dL and eGFR is 86 % . Rest all the parameters like BUN,URIC acid are normal. LFT is normal and HBV PCR is undetected for past 7 years Should I bother about the eGFR value ?
Avatar f tn I started tenofovir last month and i was told it causes bone loss in long term use. Please how long would does start to cause the bone loss and how often do I have to check my bone density?? Thank you.
Avatar m tn About the kidney toxicity and reduction in bone mineral density.. sounds like your bone will crack easier... Well I got Baraclude from Malaysia and it seems to be quite reasonable..
Avatar m tn most active,1% sides on kideny function/bone mineral density, hbe positive 10% eradication of hbv, hbe negative 0%, no resistance entecavir, no sides, hbe positive about 8-10% eradication, hbe negative 3% eradication, 1.
Avatar n tn Hello hillre, Forteo is a man-made form of a hormone called parathyroid that exists naturally in the body. Forteo increases bone density and increases bone strength to help prevent fractures. Forteo is used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have a high risk of bone fracture. Forteo can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or try to quit smoking altogether.

Avatar m tn got my bone scan and there is bone density loss, osteopenia around -1.5.this worries me a lot because i take vit d3 and vit k2 mk4/mk7, i also make antiaging protocols and my latest dna methylation clock is 40yo while being 49yo chronologically (my cells were 40yo 2 years ago and hope they re even younger now).so any guy with zero prevention and older might get much more damage from tdf.i called hospital but they say TAF is not available.....
Avatar f tn I had 3 Bone density scans done in last 6 years, and the last one which was on Friday came back showing: Left proximal femur, the lowest score is obtained in the femoral neck. The BMD of this region is 1.134 gm/cm2 with a T-score of 1.3.Between examiniations, there has been a significant increase in the total hip BMD (.0.019 gm/cm2) Then it says: Based on the lowest T-score, the diagnostic category if : Normal (T-score >-2.5).

Avatar n tn However, one side effect concerns the effect of femara on bone metabolism. There is significant risk of decreasing bone mineral density and therefore cause some bone brittleness when taking this drug. I suggest you have yourself worked up for bone mineral density or osteoporosis. The bone pains should also be evaluated for the possibility of bone metastasis, which can be initially misconstrued as drug side effect. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn I have not had my blood levels done this was perscribed from my bone density scan thanks
