Avatar n tn My father is a patient of Grade 4 Brain Tumor (GBM) in his left parietal lobe He is surviving from past 5 years 8 months. 1) He underwent for a surgery on August 2002. Doctor told he was not able to remove the total tumor. 2) After 1 month in September last week of 2002 he started Radiations using Linear Accelerator. He had 33 Radiations along with 100 mg Temodal (Temozolomide). He used to take the capsule 1 hour before the radiation.
Avatar n tn I am a 25 year old female. I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in June 2008 and underwent surgery to remove it. It was the size of an apple and diagnosed a grade 2 tumor. It grew back in September 2008 and that's when i began rigorous radiation and oral chemotherapy (Temozolomide). My recent MRI has showed the regrowth of the tumor to be "gone." The plan is to take the Temozolomide for 2 years along with Accutane (which helps the oral chemotherapy work better).
Avatar f tn I am in desperate need of a inoperable GBM survivor. My husband is 43 and started treatment today. I just need to know there is at least one out there. He is a survivor and will prove this. I don't want to hear let him eat what he wants and make him comfortable I want to know how and what to do to fight this as much as possible! Please if anyone knows of a survivor that has not had a operation please, PLEASE let me know.
Avatar f tn - Oct 2011 He found a 7cm tumor in brain, don't know what is this. Then surgery taken and report show diagnosis as "Diffuse astrocytoma WHO grade II", - The doctor only provide oral medication. Neither chemotherapy nor radiotherapy has been taken. And, we were told by the doctor that no chemo or radiation need to take. Plus, Dr said the tumor isn't cancer. - May 2012 He didn't feel well and seek the assistance from hospital.
Avatar f tn my 21 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed GBM grade IV - she did 2 craniotomies- we see the oncologist Monday - we will then find out when the radiation and chemo will begin... everything I read is saying 1 - 2 years life expectancy - I just am unable to accept that.. realistically I need to know how this will affect her? will it be her motor skills? eye sight??
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry for your condition. What kind of Brain tumor do you have? Is it GMB or something else? If it is GBM there is a clinical trial that they don't have to remove the tumor for by Tocagen. They have the trials at UCLA, UCSF, and UCSD and maybe other places and it sounds promising. If you don't have GBM I thought I would try. I have vertigo but not due to a shunt. It is due to my migraines and they use Topamax to control it.
Avatar f tn Sorry for paranoid question but would a MRI show all aspects, would it show small GBM tumours in or around the optic nerve etc? Optic neuritis/ papilloedema etc? Or does an MRI show literally every type of tumour etc within the head?
Avatar f tn hI I just came back on this site and wanted to say I'm sorry about your husband getting GBM. I wanted you to know that we learned a lot during the year and a half that Jim had his tumor and I would like to be there for you if you need support or questions. I'll send you a message in case you dont' get this.
Avatar n tn have they checked your kidneys or your anti gbm level?
Avatar f tn I am a GBM grade IV patent. Please tell me what does mean of my last MRI report. I thank you very much for your explanation of my MRI -------------Quote---- Name of Exam-MRI REPORT OF BRAIN, Sagittal-FSET1, Axial-- FSET1.FSET2, FLAIR & DWI, Coronal-- FRFSET1, Findings:operative and post radiotherapy state of right temporal Glioblastoma. Pre and post contrast MR imaging of BRAIN was done using following protocol: Evidence of right sided craniotomy is noted.
Avatar m tn I've had two brain two tumors and a sinus infection. I'm guessing a sinus infection. Get a neti pot. Or some sudefed. Avoid the antibiotics.
Avatar f tn A month ago my husband (41) had a tumor resection of a GBM in the left temporal/frontal lobe. He is still recovering from surgery and has begun cancer treatment (temodar& radiation) a week ago. He has a previous accident injury where he has struggled with neck pain for ten years. He has been on suboxone for probably 7 years now. He is currently taking his suboxone but is not getting any relief for his head pain.
Avatar m tn The hyperglycemia produces increased matrix production and thickening of the of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). This causes the nephropathy. This in turn causes systemic hypertension. To prevent further damage, he will have to take medications regularly and check his blood sugars to ensure it is in the normal range of 80-120mg/dl. Strict adherence to a diabetic diet and regular exercise will further help to reduce blood sugars. He will need regular follow up with his nephrologist.
610654 tn?1270480027 my friend has GBM about 2years ago,she took an operation to remove it,chemotherapy and radiotherapy........after all she showed allergy toward chemotherapy,so the doctor decided to stop treatment, and ask her to wait for her destiny!!! that was about A YEAR ago and thanks god she still alive.....but she is having a total wealness in her left hand and leg and this was even when she was taking chemotherapy which was suggesting reccurance of the disease......
Avatar m tn My husbands brother was 56 when he passed away from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) two years ago. We were his caregivers along with his sister and mother, and helped him with his meds and so forth and so we unfortuantely have a lot of experience with this too. A lot of the symptoms are common to the brain tumor itself and the damage that was done from removing it and post radiation etc. Did she just get these symptoms? Sure some of these meds can cause these symptoms too.
Avatar f tn Dear Dr. Kolkil Mathur, I am a GBM grade IV patent. Avatar n tn Thank you for your answer to my question(s). I have never even thought of any problem(s) with my brain, although I do sometimes think about what's causing the "loss of signal", as I call it. My father died of GBM, but our family was told it is not a familial disease, so I never thought of it after that. It was his illness and that of my mother that I left work and returned home to care for them.
Avatar m tn The hyperglycemia produces increased matrix production and thickening of the of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). This causes the nephropathy. So, along with the dialysis, ensure to see that his blood sugars are adequately controlled. He will have to take insulin regularly and check his blood sugars to ensure it is in the normal range of 80-120mg/dl. Strict adherence to a diabetic diet and regular exercise will further help to reduce blood sugars.
Avatar m tn 2- we removed it entirely with surgery i know it mostly progesses again somehow but following by radio therapy (the most effective against Glioblastomas (GBM) might expand her chances of survival??? 3- do you know any reputable facilities that will at least study the case and might guide us somehow??or be interseted in giving a hand? specially in the promising Gene Therapy treatment??? (i`ll never relay on a mere person for my mothers life :( ) 4- do you have any resources on similar cases?
Avatar m tn The hyperglycemia produces increased matrix production and thickening of the of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). This causes the nephropathy. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. Now when you meet your doctor the following tests may need to be done. Assess the kidney function, this is done by a blood urea and creatinine and sometimes a GFR (glomerular filteration rate).
Avatar f tn My dear husband was also DX with GBM on Aug 16, 09. Went through 2 resections and he still in the hospital til now. Unfortunately his surgery was not successful. He completely lost his speech and could not move after the surgery. I am so devastate right now and deeply regret that we decided to have him go through the surgery. He had 2 weeks of radiation with chemo but seems like thing is getting worse. Now he sleeps more than 20 hours a day....
