I am a 25 year old female. I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in June 2008 and underwent surgery to remove it. It was the size of an apple and diagnosed a grade 2 tumor. It grew back in September 2008 and that's when i began rigorous radiation and oral chemotherapy (Temozolomide). My recent MRI has showed the regrowth of the tumor to be "gone." The plan is to take the Temozolomide for 2 years along with Accutane (which helps the oral chemotherapy work better).
Not much is known about Brininapant, and because it targets the host rather than the virus, side effects are always a concern. I believe it blocks IAP (Inhibition against Apoptosis Protein) which is over-expressed in virally infected cells. I also believe apoptosis is driven by TNF? Because WEH has such a good reputation, it certainly raises a lot of hope.

As far as I know there is no medication available to stimulate nerve repair or any sort. There has been some research in certain drugs for slowing nerve damage due to apoptosis or "programmed cell death." I must state that none have been proved effective in humans, though and none are approved for use at present. Usually ischemic optic neuropathy is not a slow process but is rather abrupt usually. You may actually have other problems in addition to optic neuropathy.
It is my understanding that infected liver cells die by either natural or induced cell death by apoptosis or lysis by immune cells. Apoptosis is supposed to be an orderly process with the whole dead cell eaten cleanly by macrophages. Some literature suggested when infected liver cells divide (by mitosis), some cccDNA may be lost , into the cytoplasm or outside the cells?
For those with the background to understand this it has to do with mitochondrial dysfunction, apoptosis (programmed cell death), and the inhibition of apoptosis by some antihistamines at low doses.

That would explain why most HCC risk models associate no increased HCC risk to guys below 40.
Rationale for treatment with birinapant
Like cancer cells, cells that are infected with certain viruses may escape apoptosis. We have conducted pre‑clinical studies to evaluate the potential development of birinapant as an infectious disease therapeutic to overcome this “escape‑from‑apoptosis” in infected cells. We believe this is a novel approach.
Cell death or Apoptosis as is known is a programmed one,and I presume body would seek a balance by destroying a few.
