Common Questions and Answers about Temodar and gbm

temodar

Avatar f tn Stefanie, If you're still out there, I'm wondering if you got a second opinion? My husband was initially told that his GBM was inoperable, but the second neurosurgeon disagreed and operated. His GBM was over 7 cm and the surgery removed 99%. (However, If we'd had an earlier diagnosis, we'd have tried more natural methods - alkaline diet, for instance.
Avatar f tn t have to remove the tumor for by Tocagen. They have the trials at UCLA, UCSF, and UCSD and maybe other places and it sounds promising. If you don't have GBM I thought I would try. I have vertigo but not due to a shunt. It is due to my migraines and they use Topamax to control it. Topamax works on seizures too so it could possible help if that is the cause. It is possible the tumor is hitting on a place that is causing the vertigo. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Now the tumor has recurred a third time and they are trying Temodar again. What other treatment options would you consider at this point?
1515784 tn?1387197290 She had a surgical resection near the end of November and is currently in her third week of Proton Therapy and chemo with Temodar. Her tumor was in the right temporal lobe and the remaining tumor they couldn't remove (about 10 percent they said) is on her right insula. Hoping to chat with other people in the same boat as her. What if any side effects did you incur on Proton therapy? Did everyone who had proton therapy to their brain have to be on a steroid? Did anyone NOT lose hair.

Avatar f tn Hi, I recently had an MRI and it showed unremarkable results with no abnormalities/ was healthy. Sorry for paranoid question but would a MRI show all aspects, would it show small GBM tumours in or around the optic nerve etc? Optic neuritis/ papilloedema etc? Or does an MRI show literally every type of tumour etc within the head?
1524669 tn?1291423170 HI, I AM WITH OLIGODENDROGLIOMA,, NOW ON CHEMOTHERAPY-TEMODAR 350MG.
Avatar m tn my husband was told he has type 2 diabetes and his kidneys are only functioning at 50%. He was told to stop drinking soda and diet soda and drink a lot of water. What can be causing this? He is 63 yrs old and has been taking blood pressure. coloeteral medication along with a diuretic. Should he have ultra sound done to see if there is another problem creating this problem?
Avatar f tn hI I just came back on this site and wanted to say I'm sorry about your husband getting GBM. I wanted you to know that we learned a lot during the year and a half that Jim had his tumor and I would like to be there for you if you need support or questions. Avatar n tn Since the trauma of the abdominal bleeding that started (12/27/09) I was hopsitalized 12/28-12/30, and released, but started having some shortness of breath...or heaviness in the chest and now the swelling in the legs that started yesterday.... I just really need to find some resolution to this, and I'm not getting any answers from any fo the Physicians at this point and need to see if I need to find someone new who can help me find an answer.
Avatar f tn I am a GBM grade IV patent. Please tell me what does mean of my last MRI report. I thank you very much for your explanation of my MRI -------------Quote---- Name of Exam-MRI REPORT OF BRAIN, Sagittal-FSET1, Axial-- FSET1.FSET2, FLAIR & DWI, Coronal-- FRFSET1, Findings:operative and post radiotherapy state of right temporal Glioblastoma. Avatar m tn Soon after my head felt pressure and a dull ache. This intensified on and off and since then it has remained. The pain NEVER wakes me from my sleep and I have never been sick with it. However I have had waves of dizziness. I had a clear brain MRI six months ago (before this began).
Avatar n tn If it is lumbar DDD, it is now also in my neck. Very stiff. I am getting clumsy (walking and holding things) and getting very frustrated by it. Very emotional lately. If I sit or work at the computer too long, I lose feeling in my arms, seat and feet. Most surprising is my ability to wear shorts in freezing weather. I feel pressure on my legs, but have lost most sensativity to cold and heat, mostly from just above the knees on down.
Avatar n tn Hi I also have complex partial seizures which are being controlled w/anti seizure meds. Along w/1000 ml of Keppra I am taking 400 ml of Lamictal. I have a meningioma in the left petrous apex, meckle's cave and clivas... I had gamma knife radiation in 2002 and the tumor went from 2.6 x 2.2 x1.0 cm to 2.0 x 2.0 x .9 presently. The only symptoms I had at the time of diagnosis was left sided facial tingling. I now have epilepsy, trigeminal pain and severe headaches...
Avatar f tn Apparently its in two places, frontal cortex and thallamus and hence surgery was ruled out. She is on 4th week of radiation [6week plan] and plan to start chemo next week. Now she is experiencing headache and nausea. She is not on steroids. Is this normal? are we missing something? What are we to expect in the near future? Any guidance is appreciated.
Avatar n tn Since the diagnosis of Glioblastoma grade 4 in August, my husband has had the tumor removed and completed the round of radiation and chemotherapy - temodar. Recently I have noticed him being very short fused and argumentative. The slightest thing sets him off as if he had been personally attack. I have also noticed depression setting in. I'm assuming this is all part of the treatment and diagnosis.
Avatar n tn My father is a patient of Grade 4 Brain Tumor (GBM) in his left parietal lobe He is surviving from past 5 years 8 months. 1) He underwent for a surgery on August 2002. Doctor told he was not able to remove the total tumor. 2) After 1 month in September last week of 2002 he started Radiations using Linear Accelerator. He had 33 Radiations along with 100 mg Temodal (Temozolomide). He used to take the capsule 1 hour before the radiation.
794236 tn?1238016706 m still able to walk (with a few balance issues here and there). Anyway, I am NOT a doctor, and each person's situation is different, so don't be afraid to get a second or third opinion on your husband's treatment options. If, after consideration, your husband opts for radiotherapy, ask your doctors about doing it concurrent with Temodar (temolozimide). I took that with my last radiotherapy.
Avatar m tn We were his caregivers along with his sister and mother, and helped him with his meds and so forth and so we unfortuantely have a lot of experience with this too. A lot of the symptoms are common to the brain tumor itself and the damage that was done from removing it and post radiation etc. Did she just get these symptoms? Sure some of these meds can cause these symptoms too. The depakote is for seizures and migraines or headaches and you have to taper off.
610654 tn?1270480027 my friend has GBM about 2years ago,she took an operation to remove it,chemotherapy and radiotherapy........after all she showed allergy toward chemotherapy,so the doctor decided to stop treatment, and ask her to wait for her destiny!!! that was about A YEAR ago and thanks god she still alive.....but she is having a total wealness in her left hand and leg and this was even when she was taking chemotherapy which was suggesting reccurance of the disease......
Avatar f tn operative and post radiotherapy state of right temporal Glioblastoma. Pre and post contrast MR imaging of BRAIN was done using following protocol: Evidence of right sided craniotomy is noted. Irregular CSF signal intensity area is noted in all sequences in right temporal region with mild exvacuo dilatation of right lateral ventricle. Small nodular enhancing area with surrounding gyriform enhancement is noted in posterior aspect of right temporal lobe and there is adjacent dural enhancement.
Avatar m tn One thing I can tell you is beware of certain chemos, like temodar , it can cause lukemia in people with NF, and radiation is also a no go for people with NF. Good luck.
Avatar f tn In the following text they use regular mm measurements which is easier to understand. 18mm is around 7/10 of an inch. 20 is .79 and inch and 23mm is just under an inch (an inch is 25mm) about the size of a quarter. I am only a layman, but what I glean from the report is that there is increased blood flow to the area that is enhanced - the area of the tumor - and that is concerning them for being a tumor. Sorry I am not much help. I know your husband has had quite a battle.
