Tarceva bone mets

Common Questions and Answers about Tarceva bone mets

tarceva

Avatar n tn His doctor is aftraid that Tarceva is not recommended to someone with mets to the bone. That is not what I read. Can you please let me know if Tarceva is for him and whether that can hep stop or slow down the disease? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. To clarify: his treatment was adjunctive. At the time they saw no sign of cancer outside the lung. Now, however, after 4 rounds of chemotherapy the disease seems to have spread during treatment with taxotere and cisplatin: it's now in the liver, bones and adrenal glands. His original tumor was EGFR positive that is why Tarceva came up as a viable second step.
Avatar n tn A good friend was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the right lung at the end of Dec 2007. An mri this week shows 7 tumors in the brain. She has not started any chemo/radiation yet. She is 52 and in good health. I lost a brother to a brain tumor so understand the severity of the mets. I'm doing research as quickly as I can to help she and her husband make an informed decision about what to do...if anything. The local drs are recommending 4 weeks of full brain radiation followed by tarceva.
Avatar m tn He started Tarceva this January but it seems it did not work as the cancer spread to brain…. 9 mets were identified in the initial MRI 2 weeks ago but the subsequent MRI right before yesterday’s gamma knife procedure (which removed 7 mets) evidenced numerous other tiny/small tumors spread all over the brain….He has been in relatively good condition (eating well, no weight loss) until these new mets emerged (which affected his walking and reading ability)….
Avatar f tn Do fractures in bones containing Bone Mets increase the spread of the cancer cells?
Avatar n tn how can i get doctor to prescribe tarceva for inoperable lung cancer with secondary brain cancer has recieved one chemo session for lung then 5 radiotherapy for brain...help??????
Avatar f tn my platelets dropped in a period of about 3 weeks from 165 to 56, to me this seems to be very quick. I am on Xeloda and the onc is thinking this may be the cause. my question is, if the Xeloda, or bone marrow mets were responsible for the drop, wouldn't it be over a period of time and not just "whammo" down it goes. I was feeling really well until one day when I was off colour and the same day had a really bad nose bleed that seemed to last forever.
Avatar m tn since then the diesies showed improvment and shrinkage in tumor. . HE has been under maintance treatment with Tarceva since 2009 upto now. the previous PET-CT ON JULY 2011 WAS NEGATIVE AND CONCLUSION was that no evidence of residual hypermetabolic disease seen in lung.. but the recent CT showed smal new lesion 1,8 *2 cm. in comparison to previous.and his new PET -CT in TURKEY hospital FN shows new FDG(+)SUV max:5) pulmonary nodule in the lower lobe of the lung.
Avatar f tn If the node is positive for cancer metastases, this may imply disease progression in spite of Tarceva intake. Tarceva may have to be replaced with another more effective chemotherapy drug. Radiation therapy to shrink the node and relieve the swelling may also have to be done. Consult with your oncologist as soon as possible so you can be properly assessed.
Avatar n tn My Mom who is 67 was recently diagnosed w/Stage IV (mets to several areas of the bone) via Pet scan after + biopsy of lymph nodes. Her oncologist is now recommending a mastectomy (after 2 months on hormone therapy) of the right breast but indicates that the research is not conclusive on this course of treatment. I would like to know the pros/cons of this option for my Mom as at this point I don't know if this is the best course of treatment.
Avatar f tn m sorry to hear that your Aunt is suffering with this dreaded disease. With mets to the bone one can live much longer than when the mets is to other organs. Often Radiation is used in this instance but I see that your Aunt's Oncology Team is advising the continuance of her Chemo which also helps with pain control. I have known many women with Stage 4 mets to bone to live several years and remain quite active. It would be wise for your Aunt to take the advice of her Dr.
Avatar n tn I know this is likely to be bone mets, but is it possible this could caused by Femara, since the bone scan was negative? This discussion is related to Bone metastasis rise in CA2729.
Avatar f tn I am having my bone scan this Thursday. My friend, a chemo nurse, said that if I do have bone leisons that they are treatable with the treatment I have just started which is a form of reclast. I did have lung surgery when my mets was found (when I found out I had OVCA). I guess we never do stop worrying do we? I hope you do well and enjoy a long break from treatment. You and all others on this site, will be in my prayers.
Avatar n tn Dear cin483, Not necessarily. They might decide to do the bone scan prior to surgery to evaluate a symptom for example bone pain or if the results would effect the decision as to whether or not surgery would be needed. For strictly a baseline evaluation, having the bone scan done after surgery is not unusual.
365470 tn?1232747095 Hi all just want to keep you posted , my husband started on the drug Tarceva since his lung cancer is in operable this is supposed to dry up the blood flow to the tumor so it will shrink, so just praying that it does and all goes well, then he will have chemo, the oncologist said no to radiation.
Avatar f tn I had a ct that found 2 small lung nodules and a sclerotic bone lesion in my spine which is probably a bone island according to ct report. The nodules are beeing followed up but not the lesion. Is mets to bone and lungs a possibility with stomach cancer?
Avatar n tn You might ask about a Bone Scan from your Oncologist .... I'm quite sure the Radiologist would have read your films differently had there been any indication of bone mets. It's been my personal experience that mets. is the FIRST thing mentioned on my Radiology reports even when the problem was an Orthopaedic issue. Generally regular X-rays aren't the best method to differentiate between the two.
Avatar f tn t say what type of imagery you had done but these benign tumors do not show activity on bone scan and this is often used to differentiate between bone island and bone mets. If yours proves to be just the benign bone island, they are usually treated in a conservative manner. Regards ....
492898 tn?1222243598 I am still very concerned about bone mets, because all this pain is unfamiliar to me. Also, how soon after one finishes treatment can bone mets become a problem? I never did have a bone scan done. I am 49 years old and the cancer was estrogen receptor positive. Thank you for considering my question. This discussion is related to Symptoms of metastasis.
Avatar f tn What a wonderful thing you do answering people like me. Thank you so much. I am really not sure what that means. If he ordered a bone scan for back pain and check for cancer would it show a fracture. What is bone mets? He showed me the fracture on the MRI - what else could that have been? I had one emergency room visit, two pain shots, steroid pills and nothing would stop the pain. It lasted about 8 weeks. Pain traveling in my lower back from one side to the other.
Avatar n tn She has done very well with chemo and radiation until recently. She was started on Tarceva about 3 weeks ago. Recently, she has been experiencing a lot of confusion. I cannot find anywhere that this is a side effect of Tarceva (it is the only drug she is on at this time). Is it possible that she has a brain metastases? If not, what are the likely causes.

Avatar n tn I need all the information I can get on Bone Cancer from Breast Cancer. My sister inlaw initially found out thaqt she had Breast Cancer over 10 years ago. The doctors said that the tumor was the size of a gulf ball, however, the cancer did not spread. Well.....A month ago, she was diagnosed with Bone Cancer that probably metastisized from the Breast Cancer. How to they stage this type of cancer? What are her options for treatment? What are her chances of her living for at least 5 years?
