572651 tn?1530999357 I have nitroquik - sublingual nitroglycerin - to take if I have angina pains - this morning about 5 am I was miserable and couldn't tell if it was heart or ms symptoms and I took one. As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes.
Avatar f tn This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval. Stopping Nitroglycerin Patch suddenly may cause serious, possibly life-threatening, WITHDRAWAL symptoms, including chest pain and heart attack. Having a nitrate-free period each day will help prevent tolerance, dependence, and withdrawal problems. Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar m tn I only take isosorbide prior to a workout, and nitro when engaged in an activity that brings on angina. I understand your doctors are suggesting taking isosorbide daily as aschemia does not always produce angina even though the heart cells are not getting sufficient blood supply. This can lead to a silent heart attack so the medication is recommended continuously whether there is angina or not and older people in general are likely to have a silent heart attack.
Avatar n tn Well, Viagra is not safe at all in the presence of nitroglycerin tablets and in fact, we know that if anyone takes Viagra with nitroglycerin tablets, that the blood pressure can be lowered precipitously and can be lowered to such levels as can be extraordinarily dangerous to you. [ABC News report from May 2008 - Internet] As we know, not everyone experiences negative side effects from every medication.
Avatar n tn absolutely, the nitro patch is there to dilate your arteries, enabling more blood to flow. Once the Nitrates have reduced, your arteries will constrict again, raising blood pressure. Nitrates are very quick reacting which is why they are administered to heart attack victims.
Avatar m tn And why would you use something that is not prescribed your MD. Nitroglycerin is not a.drug to mess with. If it ended up on the wrong person, in the wrong concentration, there could be severe consequences.
Avatar n tn Penegra Warnings/Precautions Penegra must be used under doctors supervision. Penegra must not be used by men who are taking any medications that contain nitrates.
Avatar f tn m not a health professional, but the first question I would ask is if you are a candidate for a pacemaker. They can work wonders to regulate the heart when one is taking medications such as you are taking. Keep us informed after talking with your doctor.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn If you are taking a nitroglycerin preparation, Viagra is NOT allowed. Do not use Viagra within 24 hours of the test. Nitro-glycerine (sometimes given during a stress test) may interact with Viagra, resulting in a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Patients who are taking medications for lung problems, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure and Persantine may need to alter their medications.
Avatar n tn The doctor said the left heart was okay but found a narrowing in the right heart which caused coronary spasms during the test. IV nitroglycerin during the test stopped the spasms and dilated the vessel. He did not mention any other problems and recommended sublingual nitroglycerin to treat the spasms as they occur.
Avatar n tn Is that normal procedure?
Avatar f tn A few weeks ago I had a heart attack... it was not caused by a blockage but by vaso-spasms related to unstable angina and I was placed on medications to try to manage this. (As per the Hospital Cardiologist after a heart cath) One of the meds I was given was sublingual nitroglycerin and I have had to use it many times so far (I only use it when the chest pains last longer than 20-30 minutes or get really bad).
Avatar n tn Depending on how long the spasm last, one can have a heart attack related to it. This is why patients with this condition should always carry nitroglycerin with them at all times.
Avatar m tn The reason I saw this cardiologist was the recurring chest pain that I was having (not because of shortness of breath as he indicates here!). The pain is still there together with light headedness and goes away if I take nitroglycerin (thought I know that nitroglycerin would relieve essentially any kind of chest pain). The cardiologist saw me after the angiogram and told me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my heart and I should start working out.
Avatar m tn Will I just eventually get use to just taking a nitro pill when I feel chest discomfort and going on with my life? As I also mentioned before, the CAD diagnosis in 7/2008 gave me a panic disorder “when I was 15, I seen my Dad die in front of me from a heart attack when he was 44.” So anytime I have gotten chest pain in the past 1 ½ years I immediately think I am about to die.
Avatar n tn Great work and fantastic price. One of te drugs prescribed was Nikoran OD 10. Nikoran is an old formula apparently so not expensive, but still seems to work ok. I can not buy Nikoran in Bangkok or Phnom Penh and I've got about 2 weeks supply left. What is a suitable replacement for Nikoran?
Avatar f tn I filled the prescription but did not take that med because my research came up with the notion that it cannot be taken when taking Nitroglycerin. The Nitros I really depended on.... I so sincerely hope that the cardiologist can come to the conclusion to give me a Calcium Channel Blocker. All articles I read mention the fact that this is a med which should be given first for Princemetal's. I would be glad if I would have to intake nothing like always before.
Avatar m tn I'm a Raynaud's Phenomen patients who has the CREST syndrome and i use the nitroglycerin patches to control my raynaud's. Can you tell me if the patches used in this way would cause your acid reflux to be worse. When i took the lowest dose of nitroglycerin patches 0.1 didn't notice any but had to move up and now i do. Will this be something that my body may take an adjustment period for before i notice a different of not having symptoms again?
Avatar m tn Is it okay to take metoprolol as needed ? I did a trial of not taking it for a weekend and my hr state under 85 so my doctors nurse said I don't need to take it anymore and I can take it as needed aka if my resting heartrate gets over 100. Is this safe ? I thought beta blockers were very touchy ? I'm 24, 130 lbs and only take 12.5 mg at a time. I just took one so I hope her advice is okay !
Avatar f tn As anyone had the stress test the two parts myacardial perfusion scan after 4 weeks the cardiologist sent a prescription for asprin , isosirbide monitrate, amlodipine antrovastatin said my scan was 15% what does this mean is this not too bad medium or high risk don’t see him for another 2 months sldo can I have a few drinks on them as Iv not had a drink I just wondered people on these meds if they have a few drinks now n again thank you in advance x
Avatar f tn This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Relieved with nitroglycerin. Any guesses as to what this could be?
715004 tn?1309077280 I'm confused... I started getting chest pains a few months ago when I was under bit of stress. I had an upper GI series and it was negative for GERD. I was given nitroglycerin to see if that would help the chest pains. It did. Now, I was just put on a beta blocker, nebivolol (or something like that) for a rapid heart rate, and a high BP reading at the time. My BP is usually fine. I had an echocardiogram and everything was fine. Here's the confusion...
