My smoothies include a helping of berries: blue, black, and strawberries with banana and grape juice. Went grocery shopping - got my fav (Liverwurst...I know ewwwee..but it's YUMMY!!). I came home and made a quick sandwich and took 4 more. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar m tn For the most part, my cholesterol goes with thyroid -- thyroid hormones (FT3 and FT4) go down, cholesterol goes up; thyroid hormones go up, cholesterol goes down. I do find that exercise also has a direct reflection on my cholesterol levels. Even with relatively good thyroid levels, my cholesterol stayed on the high side, until I started walking 3-6 miles/day; then it dropped to normal levels.

225237 tn?1333138999 Like I told you privately, when it comes to cholesterol and triglycerides, if your numbers are worrisome enough (and yours are), you may need meds to bring it under control. Diet and exercise will only help to lower cholesterol a LITTLE bit. Diet and weight management is ok for maintaining normal cholesterol levels, but as for normalizing high levels, it's not much help. Please follow your doctor's lead on this.
Avatar f tn My uderstanding is that trans fats are converted mostly to LDL cholesterol which binds to your HDL cholesterol and is eliminated though the liver. Unfortunately, in addition to placing more LDL cholesterol into your system it also lowers your good HDL cholesterol, less HDL means less capacity to eliminate LD cholesterol from your blood.
Avatar n tn R u guys sure about these cholesterol readings b/c I'm a RN and never heard of readings like that. You have your good cholesterol HDL which should be just over 50, then your bad LDL which should be under 100 and then your total cholesterol which should be under 200 preferably around 100. Hope this helps you guys. Potassium level should be 3.5 to 5.3.
Avatar m tn However, raw eggs actually help fight cholesterol because raw egg yolks contain the best quality lecithin of any food, and lecithin helps liquefy cholesterol and keep it moving. Remember, cholesterol by itself isn't dangerous, it's only when it oxidizes that it is. I don't think the latest research backs up such a strict restriction on egg consumption.

We do have a lot of members with a wide range of experiences though, and I hope someone will come along who knows the answer to your question. Personally, I have not heard of any connection, and I can also say that my personal experience would argue "no" to your question.
