Common Questions and Answers about Strattera side effects adults

strattera

Avatar f tn In children, the most common side effects were upset stomach, decreased appetite, nausea or vomiting, tiredness, and drowsiness. In adults, the most common side effects were constipation, dry mouth, nausea, decreased appetite, dizziness, problems sleeping, sexual side effects, problems urinating, and menstrual cramps. Most people in clinical studies who experienced side effects were not bothered enough to stop using Strattera.
Avatar f tn My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now. Im thinking it was the benzo withdrawal but I have no experience with that either so Idk. Also, with wellbutrin I dont have the heart rate just feel sleepy and foggy mind. Any help would be appreciated and forgive any typos. I'm on my phone.
Avatar f tn Whenever a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, the parent would do well to investigate its side effects of the medication. ADD medications can be very nasty, and that includes Strattera. In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.
Avatar n tn HI molly I am on strattera and I have zero side effect. However, I have a friend who has been on strattera and had to stop it because of the itch. Tell your doctor asap.
Avatar f tn The evidence is overwhelming that the treatments are safe. Now, does this mean that there are no possible side effects? No. It is more a question of weighing the possible benefits of the treatment against the possible side effects. The most probable (vs possible) side effect of the stimulant medications is appetite suppression, particularly during the middle of the day. If you consider the use of these treatmenmts, be sure to talk about the side effect profile with the prescribing clinician.
Avatar m tn One of the side effects that my child shows is that she bites and pulls her nails. Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.
Avatar n tn My son has ODD without ADHD, he has been taking a very small dossage of Topamax for over a year ( has help him loose and control his oerweight problems, but has not really help with his oposition or horrible mood swings) and now the Dr. recomendned Strattera, I´m very concern with the side efects. What should I do?
Avatar m tn My son also could not take the Strattera due to side effects, but the side sffects are in the same category as SSNRI's. A lot of people just can't take them. Some have no problems. I am interested in the Provigil because he does well with stimulants. Hope negive finds this info useful too.
Avatar f tn Strattera also does help some people, but many get some pretty wicked side effects from it - myself included. All in all, finding an ADD med that works for you is a matter of trial and error by you and your doctor. Sometimes the first thing works great, and sometimes you have to try a few meds and tweak the dosage before you get the best results with the least side effects. But once you do, it's a big help.
Avatar f tn I would take her to a pediatric psychologist for a second opinion. It sounds like she is being medicated for the side effects from the Strattera and she may be over stimulated.
Avatar n tn My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? 889551 tn?1416184483 There doesn't appear to be any side effects with a welbutrin- adderall combo....at least for me. I've been taking 450 mg bupropion (generic for welbutrin)and 20 mg adderall xl for 3 years and I feel pretty good with no major side effects.
702147 tn?1289832370 She is very depressed and has cut herself. I know as a teenager, you can go through a depression, but reading side effects Srattera can cause it. We are in counseling. We are also going to a Psychologist to discuss her medication, it doesn't seem to be helping her anymore. She started complaining about having a hard time breathing and her chest hurting when track conditioning started. At one point thought it could be allergies with the school be all shut for the winter.
Avatar n tn i've been on stelazine for about a year now along with the rest of the meds i started strattera about last month...
Avatar n tn I am surprised that he gave you vyvanse. My dr. gave me Wellbutrin and it produced none of the side effects you mention except decreased cravings for caffeine and sweets. Our pharmacist said vyvanse is a lot like adderall; he said everyone seems to be using it who would have previously been on adderall. It is very trendy right now. But I do not think it would help with anxiety at all, and I would guess anxiety might be causing your heart rate to be rapid.
Avatar m tn It is working for his ADHD but it has loads of side effects (and he cannot take any of the stimulant type meds). We are not sure what to do about the semen leakage. He, understandably, is embarrassed about this and has started to wear diapers to work to protect his clothes. Is this the best option? Anyone has suggestions. He has decided to deal with the side effects bc of the clear benefits to his ADHD so I want to support him, we are just not sure what options are there.
Avatar n tn I've been on strattera for two weeks and the only strong side effect I seem to have is that I get really tired or fatigued around 2:00pm. Will this side effect subside over time? Is there anyway to lessen it? I've tried other ADD medications however because they are stimulants I tend to get really agitated or even a little paranoid when I'm on them so I am hoping that Strattera works out ok. Are there any other non-stimulant ADD medications?
Avatar n tn i feel tired all the time how much longer should it take for the effects to kick in?
Avatar n tn t want to play around with newer drugs with side effects I am afraid of. i know how the amphetamine adhd meds makes me feel and I am working now and doing fine but in a few days I will be out. I won't meet him (my psychiatrist)for another month. How can I get him to let me be on adderal instead of Strattera when he is afraid I will get addicted?
Avatar f tn so i tried the strattera for a week and did not notice any benefits just side effects plus it’s very expensive. i do know strattera needs to build up in your system to take effect but the side effects and price made me feel like there were better options. i called her today and told her this and that i am now off my suboxone. she then decided to write a script for wellbutrin because it’s cheaper?
Avatar m tn s common to keep trying different meds and or med combinations until you find one that works with little to no side effects. Unfortunately that's how it works. The only other alternative that I know of is trying a naturopath (Dr.) and a nutritionist which is the route I had to take for my son who has ADHD. I wish you and your son well. Just remember to be patient, resourceful and don't give up finding what works for your son.
Avatar n tn Hello Between ages 8 and about 28 I took, daily, a prescribed dose of Ritalin (between 20 mg and 40/mg per day) to treat a learning deficit that has always clearly expressed itself. Ritalin was very effective and the noticeable side effects were minimal. However, around age 20 I began to notice erectile sustainability issues which became increasingly prevalent heading into my mid and late twenties.
Avatar n tn If he is not able to use either of the two families of stimulant medications because of the side effects, a trial on Strattera would be prudent. Finally, relative to his WM deficit, you may want to consider Cogmed Working Memory Training, a software-based approach to enhancing working memory capacity. The five-week, at-home, computerized program helps many children and adults to enhance their working memory (and attentional) skills (see www.cogmed.com).
