My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now. Im thinking it was the benzo withdrawal but I have no experience with that either so Idk. Also, with wellbutrin I dont have the heart rate just feel sleepy and foggy mind. Any help would be appreciated and forgive any typos. I'm on my phone.

In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.

My son has ODD without ADHD, he has been taking a very small dossage of Topamax for over a year ( has help him loose and control his oerweight problems, but has not really help with his oposition or horrible mood swings) and now the Dr. recomendned Strattera, I´m very concern with the side efects. Strattera also does help some people, but many get some pretty wicked side effects from it - myself included.
All in all, finding an ADD med that works for you is a matter of trial and error by you and your doctor. Sometimes the first thing works great, and sometimes you have to try a few meds and tweak the dosage before you get the best results with the least side effects. But once you do, it's a big help.
My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I am surprised that he gave you vyvanse. My dr. gave me Wellbutrin and it produced none of the side effects you mention except decreased cravings for caffeine and sweets. Our pharmacist said vyvanse is a lot like adderall; he said everyone seems to be using it who would have previously been on adderall. It is very trendy right now. But I do not think it would help with anxiety at all, and I would guess anxiety might be causing your heart rate to be rapid.
It is working for his ADHD but it has loads of side effects (and he cannot take any of the stimulant type meds). We are not sure what to do about the semen leakage. He, understandably, is embarrassed about this and has started to wear diapers to work to protect his clothes. Is this the best option? Anyone has suggestions. He has decided to deal with the side effects bc of the clear benefits to his ADHD so I want to support him, we are just not sure what options are there.
I've been on strattera for two weeks and the only strong side effect I seem to have is that I get really tired or fatigued around 2:00pm.

so i tried the strattera for a week and did not notice any benefits just side effects plus it’s very expensive. i do know strattera needs to build up in your system to take effect but the side effects and price made me feel like there were better options. i called her today and told her this and that i am now off my suboxone. she then decided to write a script for wellbutrin because it’s cheaper?
s common to keep trying different meds and or med combinations until you find one that works with little to no side effects. Unfortunately that's how it works. The only other alternative that I know of is trying a naturopath (Dr.) and a nutritionist which is the route I had to take for my son who has ADHD. I wish you and your son well. Just remember to be patient, resourceful and don't give up finding what works for your son.

Between ages 8 and about 28 I took, daily, a prescribed dose of Ritalin (between 20 mg and 40/mg per day) to treat a learning deficit that has always clearly expressed itself. Ritalin was very effective and the noticeable side effects were minimal.
