193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar n tn I am not sure exactly what you mean by slurring of words. If her speech is normal in content, her language capabilities are OK but her articulation is not clear, the medical term for that would be dysarthria: poor articulation basically. There are many possible neurologic disorders that can cause dysarthria. However, please note I am not trying to imply with the following that I think your wife has one of these but rather just providing general information.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar f tn Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.
Avatar f tn My son was the same way! Couldn't speak but could understand everything. At his 2 yr appointment our doctor brought it to our attention and gave me then number of ESA (Educational Services Agency). They evaluated him and we started speech therapy at 2. About 4 months in there was no improvement and so they did another evaluation and said that they believed he had Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Which is a motor speech disorder.
Avatar m tn The degree of speech impairment that your brother will have could vary from dysarthria or slow, slurred speech due to damage to areas that control muscles of speech mechanism, apraxia of speech where there is difficulty in saying words correctly in a consistent manner. This deficit is evaluated immediately after the injury by a neurologist.
5549102 tn?1376522673 Almost 22 months old he's started saying words I understand him, but he doesn't really say them correctly. Should I worry. When he says drink he pronounces it ju. Instead of bath he says bah with the sign language. He isn't deaf and he passed his hearing test. Should we put him in speech therapy or wait it out until he's older and starting to form sentences? He does pronounce some words very well like cat dog mawmaw pawpaw daddy. Momma if you can get him to say it bye.
Avatar m tn There is no effective treatment for total cure of stammering, though speech therapy techniques précised may provide some relief to the stammerer. Avatar n tn I would definately address this with your pediatrician and work on some referrels to a hearing specialist to make sure she is hearing and a speech pathologist to evaluate speech. They start speech therapy as early as tiny infants. Sounds crazy because they aren't suppose to be talking yet but speech is much more than just saying words. The mouth muscles for example must be strong. Feeding issues with infants are often handled by speech pathologists.
Avatar n tn My 2nd son walked at 10 months but didt talk till he was 2 literary just after his 2nd birthday all these words just came at once!! But they r all different. It will.
Avatar f tn Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.
1174407 tn?1263573399 My 7 year old was diagnosed with adhd last year. we have not put him on medication and he's been doing great. he's had good grades and is no longer hyper. Up until about a month ago his grades started droping and I'm now getting complaints from the teachers as he is not finishing his assignments in class. I don't have this problem at home.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.

Avatar f tn I'd get her evaluated. Sometimes delayed speech suddenly just "clicks," but starting early is a good idea if you do need to get her into speech therapy or other assistance. My nephew went through this and did go in with a speech specialist weekly for a while, and it really helped.
Avatar f tn Most insurance will cover an eval. I do know the younger a child is when the receive speech therapy, the easier it is to correct. Has she been nervous about anything? Has she had any accidents lately?

Avatar m tn I would highly reccomend you go to a Voice/Speech Dr. You will no doubtly get a script to start Speech Therapy before it gets worse. If your like me it won't get better by itself.
Avatar m tn Are speech therapy and occupational therapy available where you live? Are there any programs or classes in which he can be enrolled? Any specialists in the field of child development that he can see? If not, I would read to him A LOT and try to sound out words together, be encouraging over any attempt he makes and don't get upset or disappointed if he can't or won't try to say something. Only positive reinforcement.
