Avatar m tn But, diabetes does affect your sugars, and I am taking that you mean MS as in Multiple Sclerosis. MS does attack the CNS, not the pancreas. Multiple sclerosis should not make it harder to control your sugar levels, your MS medicines may. Immunosuppressants can cause sugar levels to spiral sometimes, yet this medicine can help with both diseases. You may have a third-hand problem going on. You may need to switch meds.
Avatar n tn Hello I am a 25 year old female and four weeks ago I was diagnosed with optic neuritis, I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days of IV solumedrol therapy (1000 mg a day). After the treatment my vision mostly came back and the eye pain was completely gone. At the same time I also had a burning arm pain in my right arm with numbness and tingling into my fingers. During my hospital stay I had an MRI of my head, which was normal.

400099 tn?1282954864 Technically, any neurological symptom lasting more than 24 hours is considered an exacerbation. Solu-Medrol has proven to shorten the lengths of exacerbations, but has not shown to alter disease course in any way. With that in mind, steroids are completely optional unless there is something life-threatening happening that the steroids may possibly put a halt to. What is life-threatening? Good question, the opinion varies from Doctor to Doctor and patient to patient.

335728 tn?1331414412 It was noted on MRI that I had numerous lesions on my brain that were highly characteristic of multiple sclerosis with lesions located in the periventricular white matter. The results of my Lumbar Puncture which showed that both the albumin and absolute levels of IgG were markedly increased. In addition I had an increased IgG index and daily rate of IgG synthesis at 45mg/day which are highly charateristic of multiple sclerosis and seemed to support the MRI observations.
Avatar n tn people when none there, bouts of extreme anxiety and multiple other symptoms. Acts as if suddenly struck with alzheimers. Can this be from the solumedrol IV & then prednisonne? Saved her life but cost her her mind. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn My neuro wants me to consider doing a high dose of Solumedrol one day each month for my secondary-progressive multiple sclerosis. I have done the weeklong blasts of Solumedrol once and had no overt side effects except edginess and that horrible metallic taste in my mouth from the steroids. Just wanted to see what others thought about the experience.

1040373 tn?1273687488 Sound like you are having a lot of side effects from the use of the IV Solumedrol (swelling, stomach issues). I hope you start to feel better soon.
Avatar f tn Hi Katie, this is a great question and I think one of the most misunderstood things about getting an MRI. Many times people think it is essential that you have contrast for the MRI to make the lesions appear. That is not true. The contrast agent will make relatively new/young lesions enhance and that helps the doctors to see if there is current disease activity The timing on lesions to enhance is thought to be about 40 days. Once they get older than that they no longer enhance.
Avatar f tn s experience with Acthar Gel, in place of IV Solumedrol, to treat an exacerbation, and got no responses from anyone who has tried it. Lately I've been having issues walking towards the end of the day, especially if I've been working all day. I will usually begin to limp to compensate for a jelly-like leg. Neuro thought that maybe this was from a flare and suggested we try Acthar. Well, after 3 days of injections, and very LONG days at work, I have to say I love this stuff!
Avatar n tn This is a record of my history with Multiple Sclerosis from May 10, 1993 until the present. Should the records of the tests done and letters written be required by any health professional, I can make them readily available. To date I have not been treated with any Disease Modifying Drug for Multiple Sclerosis due to the fact that it has been stated to me that it is believed that my disease is “inactive”.

721523 tn?1331581802 Hi. Become familiar with the possible side effects before you consider the methotrexate, okay? As with all medications the benefits must be weighed against the risks. It is a powerful drug that has it's place. The question is, is this the right circumstances and time to consider that medication? Only you can decide that. Please make sure you are making a fully informed decision. I hope the Solumedrol quiets this flare for you. Get to feeling better soon.
