Avatar n tn After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.

1135961 tn?1279145314 As to the claritin...that is an antihistamine. Singulair is one also; so you would be double treating one symptom. You should not take OTC meds when you have asthma without a doctor saying it is OK. Also a humidifier is contraindicated for people with asthma as it puts too much moisture in the air. Ideally you need 40-45% humidity, which is easily achieved with a central home heating and air system. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn t had a chance to schedule an appointment with an allergist yet. However, my symptoms are better now after taking Singulair and Claritin regularly for the past 3 weeks. I will try to see an allergist as soon as school ends. Thanks for your advice.
Avatar f tn Alergia made me dry up too much but then it started making me feel odd, so I waited a few days and tried Zertic, that was the same reaction, so I again waited a few days and went back with Cleartin, same reaction. My PC doctor did give me the Singulair to try since I do have Asthma. He had me try Symbicort but that stuff really made me dry, and so nasty tasting. I can however use just a steroid inhaler along with the Nasonex nose spray, it seemed to work very well for me.
Avatar n tn ve had to hire a cleaning company to clean apartment every week, and substantial enough that no combination enough medications seems to completely alleviate it - except taking four medications - Singulair, Claritin and Mirapex and Rozerem for sleep, since my sleep has been implicated too and has been substantially worse due to allergies.
Avatar n tn and allergic to cats, dust, mold and pollen, . In the summer of 2008 he was on daily doses of Singulair, Claritin, Qvar, and Rhinocort. Concerned over this amount of medication for someone this young I sought a second opinion. That doctor took him off all the medications and he was fine with no adverse reactions but occasionly felt he need an albuterol inhaler.
Avatar f tn I am pregnant and have bad allergies and asthma. I tried to go the first couple of weeks without any meds... in spring.... couldn't do it! I was miserable. Benadryl is always ok, and my doctor said ok to taking Singulair (that is what I took prior to conceiving) I use my inhaler as needed (once a week maybe) What did you take for allergies and asthma prior to being pregnant? Good luck.
Avatar f tn I've been dealing with this the past year, and I see an allergist. She hasn't been able to determine anything. My problem started with swollen eyes. They weren't itchy, but I could feel my sinuses swell a bit along with my tear ducts swelling. I took an antihistamine, which I haven't taken in a long while. The antihistamine alone was okay, but combine it with using my contacts, and my eyes swell. I don't know if it's the saline or contact solution.
Avatar n tn Then recently it has just been red patches that are around my nose and under my arms; with occasional patches on my arms, legs. I have been to my internist weekly since the last week of July. She sent me to a dermatologist who I have been seeing for a month now. No one can figure out what it is. I have taken everything from Benadryl, Xyzal, Zrytec, Singulair, Claritin, and Hydroxyzine. Nothing has worked. They have done blood work for lupus and many other blood tests.
Avatar f tn I've been getting sick with a cold just about once a month for the past 6 months. My doctor told me it's because my asthma and allergies are not under control. I was on Advair for a few months, and they switched me to Asmanex because I was still getting frequent coughs. I'm on Zyrtec for allergies. I haven't been to an allergist yet to see what I'm allergic to (have an appointment coming up).
Avatar f tn I have been having repeat bacterial infections for the last 5 years. I have had repeat sinus infections, I had sinus surgery 4 years ago and that seemed to really improve the sinus infections but I still get bronchitis several (2-3) times a year, last month I was diagnosed with pnemonia (this is the second time I have had it in the last 5 years) I had no idea, just a lingering annoying cough, I even ran a 10 mile run with it and felt fine, they started me on antibiotics because my Dr.
Avatar f tn Family history: My sister & dad have rhinitis. My mom has chronic cough and her PCP said it’s allergic (don't have detail check-up). I had strong allergic reaction to Erythromycin (whole body & face swollen & covered by hives/rash) when I was a kid Since 2010, I started feeling congested at night (bedtime & early morning) and okay in daytime. Occasionally took Claritin because of tickle in throat but nothing serious. Normal daily life & sleeping is fine.
Avatar n tn My doctor is away so I saw someone covering for him and they gave me Singulair to try as well so now I am currently doing the nasal rinses in morning and taking Claritin and Singulair. I have also tried cleaning the house better and avoiding dust(would be only allergy I can think of that would cause this). I was thinking I might be feeling a bit better but I still do have the ear issue.
Avatar n tn Hello, momof1son! Thanks for your comment. He was on singulair several years ago but became somewhat immune to it, it just wasn't helping anymore. We have tried Zyrtec and Claritin but the same is happening with those, they just aren't working anymore. I haven't given him anything for several months now and the pediatrician has finally set up an appointment with an allergist so hopefully this will help to isolate where the problems are coming from.
Avatar f tn My Dr has recommended I try singualr along with Allegra and flonase. He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
460830 tn?1347219306 What was the problem with Singulair a while back? I heard something about it, but I never heard what the problem was with it.
Avatar n tn But when I go out for exercise I wear a paper mask over my mouth. With a mask I can walk a 12 minute 1/4 mile. With out the mask I walk a 15 minute mile. So you can see how my allergies affect my times. I'd start with a pulmonologist to clear lung problems or infection. After that might try an allergist. I also have asthma that only happens when I reach a specific level of exercise and doesn't show otherwise besides allergy induced. Sorry to hear that you are having problems.
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
Avatar m tn i just wanted to post a warning to other parents. my son was on singulair for over 3 years. he was taking the drug for treatment of mild asthma and allergies. he suffered from undetected side effects for 3 years. the side effects were sneaky and subtle and i did not pick up on the cause. at the age of 7, his physician increased his dosage to 5mg due to his age. after that increase, his side effects became loud and clear.
Avatar n tn I see this is a very old post and I don't know if you ever got a diagnosis. I have had a similar issue for about 10-15 yrs, starting with light "spasms" and now they have increased to severe at times, but only lasting about a minute. I have figured they must be a spasm of some sort due to my neck, and I have Cervical Stenosis now. Sometimes I don't get any and sometimes i have had 14 in a morning.
