I finally got in to see my regular Dr 2 days ago. She gave me more steroids, antibiotics, and singulair for the shortness of breath. I am still feeling bad and have shortness of breath. My heart feels like its going to beat out of my chest at times and I get light headed. I still have NO cough. Is there anything I need to recommend my Dr do?
s the singulair. My 7 year old son was put on it for his asthma and hay fever/ allergies. For the few months he was on it he ended up in hospital twice because his asthma got so bad (he'd never been hospitalised before). His behaviour changed dramatically both at home and school - he was constantly angry, reactive and very often explosive and he began uncharacteristic physical risk-taking. He experienced aches and pains in his arms and legs which he'd never had before.
During this time I have had uveitis (lasted for about 4 months) followed by gastritis (8 months), followed by strep throat leading to chronic tonsilitis and re-occuring bronchitis flares for 6 months that triggered asthma and now back to uveitis... Additional meds have been added to treat this, Pred Forte and Prednisone taper (uveitis), Prilosec and various other pump blockers (gastritis), 20days amoxicillin (strep) 10 weeks on amoxicillin (bronchitis), singulair and dulera for asthma.
duo neb treatments 4 times a day; tylenol for fever and Guaifenesin.Plus my everyday meds of Advair 500/50 twice a day 1 puff; Singulair 10 mg 1 time day and Protonix 40 mg twice a day. I have been in and out of the ER. I have seen my PCP;Cardiologist and Pulmonologist. All chest x-rays, stress test and echocardiogram came back normal. Still having all the same symptoms. I keep getting sent back and forth between doctors with no resolve.

I have been having repeat bacterial infections for the last 5 years. I have had repeat sinus infections, I had sinus surgery 4 years ago and that seemed to really improve the sinus infections but I still get bronchitis several (2-3) times a year, last month I was diagnosed with pnemonia (this is the second time I have had it in the last 5 years) I had no idea, just a lingering annoying cough, I even ran a 10 mile run with it and felt fine, they started me on antibiotics because my Dr.
you need to stop smoking asap. I've been on prednisone too- what is your dose? I was on 30mg/day and am not sure it's safe for the liver and for 1-2 weeks. my FEV1 is 73% and hasn't gone up even on the prednisone and symbicort. you should contact your doctor asap.
I have had a similar response to Singulair. After taking it for 3 yrs I realized that it was causing all my problems. In addition to symptoms similar to Churg Strauss, I also have enlarged lymph nodes and problems with my liver. I urge everyone to take the time to report their issues to the FDA so they realize that these side effects aren't as rare as they think. hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships.
After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
I was taking Singulair for just 5 days for and upper respiratory cold and began having tingling and numbness in my extremities. I stopped immediately. My question is, after eliminating all other possible causes (through a number of tests including MRIs, blood work, metals testing) with my doctor, I still have numbness, tingling and burning taking place in my legs and arms for 3 months now. Has anyone experienced such long term effects? If so, what can be done if anything?
i just wanted to post a warning to other parents. my son was on singulair for over 3 years. he was taking the drug for treatment of mild asthma and allergies. he suffered from undetected side effects for 3 years. the side effects were sneaky and subtle and i did not pick up on the cause. at the age of 7, his physician increased his dosage to 5mg due to his age. after that increase, his side effects became loud and clear.
I have been taking Singulair for a few months now and I haven't noticed any negative side effect. I take it along with a daily inhaler for my asthma and it really has helped me a lot.
Otherwise, I take Singulair year round. This year the humidity is especially high. I have had trouble breathing for over a month now. I am a REALTOR® and am outside alot, and have been showing a lot of vacant bank repos with no air, and lots of mold and moisture problems. My inhaler ran out about a month ago (and was expired anyway). I ran out of my Singulair and was too busy to refill my prescription for a couple of weeks.
I'm a 44-yo female. Still recovering from severe acute bronchitis that lasted 3 months (started mid-October 08), I am now living cat-free and taking all my meds. For eighteen years I lived in the vicinity of an outdoor cat, smoked periodically (last puff 5.5 years ago) and suffered what I considered to be mild asthma. I used albuterol about 1/day (usually just one puff) because of feelings of tightness at the top of my bronchi.
(Dropped that Dr like a freaking hot potato). Lots of resp problems/illnesses; hx of rsv, bronchitis, pneum. Slow to make milestones, weight/height always really good. Speech very slow; finally diagnosed w/apraxia @ 3y/o-couldn't speak 10 words @ that point; No one would listen to my worry!! In speech therapy since then. Seemed to be getting better but now @ age 8 his speech hasn't progressed, social interaction/understanding school instruction going sharply downhill.
He did a chest X-ray and said that he saw some bronchitis. He had put my son on singulair about a month before this and it wasn't helping that much. So, he prescribed some prednisone, an antibiotic and cough medicine. He has been sleeping through most of the night now, but he coughs ALL day long nearly with every single breath. Also, he complained of his legs hurting a few days later and couldn't even hardly walk without limping.
From your message, you appear to have an intolerance to the so-called non-sedating anti-histamines but hopefully will be able to take Singulair; it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious.
To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem.
