Common Questions and Answers about Singulair and children

singulair

Avatar m tn he began to have a facial tic, dilated pupils and hallucinations. i finally got the message and discontinued the singulair after researching the drug on the internet. after 3 weeks, he was like a different child. he was happier and healthier. his fears, anxiety and all the other side effects just disappeared. this drug can have devastating effects and be undetected by parents. children are unable to express the way the drug is making them feel.
460830 tn?1347219306 Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
Avatar n tn I believe that my child has a behavorial issue. She has emotional outbursts and loses her temper really easy. If she gets upset, there is nothing we can do to snap her out of it. Sometimes I do something to distract her and she forgets that she was mad. She says mean things to her sister and grandmother. If she gets in the "zone" nothing I tell her phases her. She will not follow directions and does not care if she gets spanked.
920032 tn?1550680156 All those do is dry up the mucous and drainage - post nasal drip. I use it and love it. Singulair is a leukotriine modifier. That is one of the many chemicals involved in allergic reactions. As far as which is better, that would be hard to say. They have totally different purposes. Some people say that Singulair has little effect, while I won't miss a dose without having an attack.
Avatar m tn As, Singulair (montelukast) is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children. Singulair 10mg tablets contain the active ingredient montelukast, which is a type of medicine known as a leukotriene receptor antagonist. You may need regular inhaled corticosteroids and short-acting beta agonist such as salbutamol, to relieve your symptoms. Nebulization may help. Sometimes, steroids may be needed to control the symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have heard from enough people who have had these same side effects on Singulair about their arms and legs hurting and feeling numb and tingling that I would ask her doctor if there is anything else she could try. From what I am learning there are other things to try that don't have these side effects! ALSO - PREDNISONE CAN CAUSE TERRIBLE MOOD SWINGS, and MENTAL CHANGES!!! It happened to me and I was only on it for about 2 weeks with bronchitis.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was diagnosed with acute asthma last year and have been on symbicort/proventil for months, also singulair and took prednisone and methylprenisolone and I am still having breathing problems and chest tightness. taking some HC lately helped me breathe better and relax but still having breathing problems today. can you please help me??
Avatar f tn I think you posted a long time ago about your son and Singulair. My six year old took Singulair for 2 weeks and develped facial tics, twitches and other odd things. He's now been off for 10 days and we are still seeing it. Neuro appt. this week- so worried. Is your son okay now?
Avatar n tn Her Pulmonary dr. put her on Singulair for a month and gave her an inhaler for emergencies. The Singulair has given her a stomach ache, nausea, for over 2 weeks now. We are waiting on a visit to a different Pulmonologist, as requested by the pediatrician. It doesn't sound like allergies or asthma that I have heard other people describe. Her pediatrician said it could be sinus drip or reflux, yet again she has no other symptoms. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn My Dr has recommended I try singualr along with Allegra and flonase. He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
Avatar n tn Do you think you had a propensity for panic and the singulair just brought it out? Would think this could happen. Singulair does tend to be linked to psychiatric issues and panic especially in pediatric populations (up to 19 yrs). Unfortunately, now it would be best to avoid all medications similar of that class in the future. Unfortunate as being asthmatic can definitely make life also quite difficult. I feel for you. Have you ever tried acupuncture?
Avatar m tn So sorry to hear that. Is he being seen by a pulmonary specialist? Is he taking any sort of preventative medications apart from ventoIin? He obviously needs to have his asthma controlled. I do know that they don't like to over medicate children on steroid puffers. But I do believe they are allowed up to 400ug/day safely before any side effects become apparent, such as slowed growth. Does he have a lot of air born allergies?
1154802 tn?1266485720 I also use Symbicort and was using my inhaler quite a bit...every night and 1-3 times during the day. I started taking Singulair a month ago and I don't use my inhaler nearly as much anymore. I've used it 3 times at night in the past month (2 of the times I forgot to take Singulair) and a few random times during the day/evening. Just a thought if you don't already take it and you have allergy issues. Take care.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm a 45 year old man, in pretty good shape. Workout every other day 5'11" 185lbs. History of seasonal allergies and sinsus problems. No history of Asthma. In November 2015, I had a really bad allergic reaction to a coworkers perfume and had a very difficult time recovering from it. In February 2016, my doctor prescribed Advair 250/50, once a day and Singulair 10mg at bedtime.
Avatar m tn We reasearched Singulair when our son was first prescribed it and found none of the information now noted in their website. The link to suicide, depression and other behavioral problems and Singulair, although known by the manufacturer and the FDA for several months was not mentioned by either until recently and notices were not sent to all Pharmacists and Dr.s. For me, this experience has shown me that there is no "miracle" drug, and all drugs are just that....drugs.
Avatar n tn 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
Avatar n tn Long-term use comes with serious side effects both for adults and for children, but more serious for children. If you are concerned ask your doctor for effective non-steroidal substitutes. I got off inhales steroids three years ago after suffering health problems caused by it. I now use natural anti-inflammatories plus nebulized albuterol and an anti-histamine.
Avatar m tn hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships. After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.
370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
Avatar f tn Accolate (zafirlukast). Both Singulair (montelukast) and Accolate are leukotriene modifiers. It is available in tablet form. Tablets of 10 mg and 20 mg.
Avatar f tn He was prescribed neurotin by his neurologist and my immunlogist told me to get him off of the singulair before we gave him the neruotin. He said that the side effect was kind of rare, but possible. Of course we took him off of the singulair, but it hasn't taken the pins and needles away. I hope that he will have some relief at some point. We are planning of giving him the neruontin before the beginning of the school year to take away some of the discomfort. How are you doing now?
Avatar n tn I sound like I am drowning in my own fluids. I talke neb treatments, inhalers, stomache acid reducer, spariva, singulair and some. I feel I am loosing this battle. I have had severe asthma since age 4. I was too embarrassed to go to er last night. I had an attack lasting 3 hrs. I took 3 neb treatments, then with no help I took 30mmg. pregnazone which I have been on pregnazone for months. Where do I get help. Different Dr's, different meds, different answeres.
Avatar n tn Get him off the Singulair. You might want to try Zyrtec. My son had bad allergies as a small child - he was later found out to be gluten intolerant. Artificial colorings have now een definitely proven to trigger off alot of these symptoms. Whatever he is doing - cheer up - my kid was so ADHD off the charts he was kicked out of public school (and he was a straight A student).
Avatar f tn i have been a chronic asthmatic all my life and under a specialist the past year, but im still getting a bad shortness of breath in my chest almost all the time, i use ventolin and flixotide and have been constantly on prednisolne, which has made me gain loads of weight, i feel its allergy related , but can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Avatar n tn Hello Drs I was involved in an exposure (Insertive Oral) unprotected and (insertive Anal) protected until the condom broke in the end....didnt realize that I was exposed to a lot of fecal matter until the end. My partner says that he is negative and I even has the test results to prove it. But I dont trust him and I worry about the "window Period" I was tested at 70 days/ 10 weeks via the Trinity Biotech and it was negative.
Avatar n tn I was taking Singulair for just 5 days for and upper respiratory cold and began having tingling and numbness in my extremities. I stopped immediately. My question is, after eliminating all other possible causes (through a number of tests including MRIs, blood work, metals testing) with my doctor, I still have numbness, tingling and burning taking place in my legs and arms for 3 months now. Has anyone experienced such long term effects? If so, what can be done if anything?
