Sinemet mechanism of action

Common Questions and Answers about Sinemet mechanism of action

janumet

Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar m tn I was able to find this on the warnings- "Sinemet may cause the results of some tests for urine glucose or urine ketones to be wrong. Ask your doctor before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine."-- but nothing about it causing levels to actually be effected. Regardless- it's important to be in touch with your doctor about the changes you have seen since starting to take the medication. It's certainly something that you don't want to over look!
Avatar n tn Hi there. Sinemet or levodopa is used in the management of parkinsonism especially bradykinesia and rigidity apart from restless leg syndrome. though sinemet is the most effective medication and has least short term side effects, it is associated with high risks of long term side effects like involuntary movements or dyskinesia. Long term basis it may cause restlessness, confusion and abnormal movements. Take care.
Avatar n tn I am not sure whether this implies the low dopamine in certain brain cell in morning because of wear-off of sinemet or something else? But ... also note that, she moves great in morning before any medicine which is another 'does not make sense'. Any advise you can give will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of Campral® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.

Avatar f tn I hated that because it worked so well, but side effects were intolerable. This as of April 28th. Was started on Sinemet. Was told this does not work as well as Requip, but was less likely to have same side effects. Said he could add darvocet if necesary. Also take ativan 1mg 3 x daily since the brain surgery, and 1-2 at night for help with sleep. Every other sleep aid made above symptoms worse. Did tapered Requip withdrawal while adding the sinemet.
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
207091 tn?1337709493 Hi there - My father (72 years old) was just told yesterday that his cancer is back. He was originally diagnosed with prostate cancer in July 04, underwent seed radiation starting in Sept 04. Checked every 3 months for a year, then went to yearly. Last Sept., his PSA was a negative (don't know the number), and now it is a 1.2. (When he was diagnosed, it was never above a 3.2.) His original biopsy showed 12 out of 15 samples were malignant, and his gleason was 9.

Avatar f tn Oh, also, I know what you mean about a general feeling of jumpiness that sometimes accompanies the RLS. The Sinemet seems to help that too. Best of luck with this.
Avatar f tn I've got severe RLS 24/7 and have been taking Requip for the past several years, Mirapex before that. It's gotten worse lately so the doctor had me go cold turkey 5 days ago. He gave me Klonopin to take at night, but it doesn't do anything other than make me even more tired. I managed to get 6 hours sleep on day 4, but that's it for the whole week. The doctor says that I can't go back on the dopamines (Requip) since they have started augmentation (making the RLS worse).
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar m tn http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/578705 Ribavirin improves early responses to peginterferon through improved interferon signaling. Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar f tn As of 2008, only about 200 cases of DBS for dystonia have been described in the world medical literature, and the longest time any patient has had this therapy is about 10 years. Thus it cannot be considered a standard therapy until more procedures are done and the results of them published. Has your neurologist attempted treatment with a variety of medications, which should at least include sinemet and anticholingergic medications such as trihexyphenydil (Artane)?

Avatar n tn Some medications are actually derived from plants. The mechanism of action and effect on the body determines the classification, therefore, laxatives can be synthetic or natural.
Avatar n tn "Mechanism of Action Oxomemazine, a phenothiazine derivative, is a sedating antihistamine" The above information is about all I could find on this drug. If it is used in the US, I have no idea what label it's under. Even if I had been able to find more information, I am not qualified to tell you to either stop or start or change any medications. You need to speak with your doctor or chemist for an answer to your question.
Avatar f tn , duloxetine) has a combination mechanism of action involving serotonin and norepinephrine making it useful in depression and also neuropathic pain. When a peripheral nerve is injured there is an increase in pain sensitive fibers leading to increase pain recognition. This causes a change in central (i.e., brain/spinal cord) recognition of pain. One major neurotransmitter involved in this is norepinephrine. Cymbalta works to modulate this change.
Avatar n tn A heart murmur is a sound heard as the blood flows through the heart and especially the blood flow through the heart valves. If there is a defect, a stethoscope hears a specific sound for different defects. ■Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE inhibitors lower the system's blood pressure. The mechanism of action is to relax the blood vessels and that provides less resistance for the heart to pump against and decreases blood pressure.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with horrible spasticity since April and has gotten worse. I don't sleep much anymore at night and I work full time. My MRI shows no changes (minimal) and thoracic spine has no lesions. I've tried so many medications including sativex. I'm so tired and done with it all. I've also tried amitripyline, carbonmezipine, sinemet, quinine, nabilone and nothing. Please help....
Avatar f tn boceprevir is in pharmacies now telaprevir should be by the end of the month they both have the same mechanism of action ( protease inhibitors ) and are comparable in efficacy mimi that 70% is for first timers only
Avatar m tn It is an atypical opioid which is a centrally acting analgesic, used for treating moderate to severe pain. Its exact mechanism of action is unknown but is thought to be similar to morphine. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do kep me posted if you have any additional queries.
