Avatar f tn Hi there, I have been taking Lipitor (Simvastatim is generic) and Nexium, Zantac for the past 10 years. The one is for high Cholestorol and the other to treat GERD. It should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn I am taking 40mg nexium once daily and have recently been Rx'd simvastatin (10mg). It's a low dose, but there appears to be a potential moderate interaction, possibly myopathy and shortness of breath. I called the pharmacist and he said that unless I was taking a higher simvastatin dose (>50mg), I shouldn't have a problem.
Avatar n tn 05mg, Atenolol 25mg, Diovan 160mg, and Simvastatin 80mg. I am avoiding fried foods, spicy foods when at all possible. But, I recently have developed a severly raw and acidic stomach and throat. The raw feeling in my stomach continues no matter what I eat or drink. Milk turns into what seems like liquid fire in my stomach. I even tried vomitting a couple of times to get rid of the acid for what I hoped would be immediate relief - but it does nothing to help.
Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar n tn Needless to say, they released me this morning and prescribed lopressor, norvasc, protonix, and simvastatin and 325 mg of ecotrin a day. I need to go back to the cardiologist in two weeks, but I'm kind of clueless as to what happened with me. I'm 48 and I'm an ex-smoker. The doctor did say after the angiogram that he didn't think the pain I experienced was cardiac in nature and they are suggesting I see a digestive disease doctor.
Avatar f tn Yes, just a bit more history after seeing other's more in depth questions. Also in the past, I've had along with the 2 prior nuclear sress tests, ( I DON'T believe it was Lexicon used in the past) I've also had an echocardiogram with last stress test 2 years ago which came out fine. Also bloodwork was good. I am on high blood pressure medicine, although it was jus slightly elevated, I'm also on Simvastatin although my cholesterol is only slightly elevated as well.
Avatar n tn I quit taking the simvastatin last tuesday, and by friday I looked perfectly normal with no steroid cream...... Thanks again for all the help!
Avatar m tn I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar f tn Patients were put on a cholesterol-lowering diet and given one of the medications. After 18 weeks, patients given simvastatin had significantly lower total cholesterol, lower LDL, lower triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol levels than those who took pravastatin. The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin).
Avatar f tn Problem is I think if you can't take one statin you may not be able to take any. But there are other drugs you can try like Niaspan (slow release niacin) and vitorin and so forth. I don't know if you are into changing your diet but if you get a chance watch the video Forks over Knives. It is how a plant based diet can reverse althroschlerosis. My husband's cholesterol was 260, blood pressure was 140/90 and weight 260. He is 6' 2" though.
620048 tn?1358018235 They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve. My husband is on it and has no problems. As with most drugs, they affect people different.

Avatar m tn Simvastatin has been wdely used by members on this forum including myself. Took it for a few months but not currently taking it at the moment. So yes,Simvastatin, and overall a very healthy diet!!!!
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar m tn 4 [0027] These cases involve the administration of simvastatin to patients with known Hepatitis B and C, and other causes of liver cirrhosis, mainly alcoholic. All of these patients had normal alphafetoprotein levels and were given simvastatin on a daily basis since their first diagnosis of their liver disease. None of these patients showed an elevation of alphafetoprotein during an observation period.
Avatar n tn Husband has spells where he gets a build up of sinus drainage, then starts coughing very deeply, he turns bright red and passes out and shakes like he is having ceasures. He has spent 6 days in a VA Hospital, with them running a battery of tests and they never actually diagnosed the problem. He has a nebulizer the sent home with him and albeutrol solution for the neb. (uses 4 times a day with the albeuterol) , also has proventil rescue inhaler, and a ton of different medications.
Avatar m tn Warnings and Precautions Because simvastatin can affect the liver, it is used with caution in people who drink more than a moderate amount of alcohol or have a history of liver disease. Simvastatin is not recommended for people with liver disease or high liver enzymes before treatment begins. Possible Symptoms of Liver Problems Several symptoms can occur in someone who develops liver problems while taking simvastatin.
Avatar m tn There r alot of meds that will cause if not add to the gerd......Keep a journal of what u eat how u feel ect and try and see a pattern or trigger it will help in the long run for u to control this. I recently stopped all my meds and am now getting ready to re introduce( do not do this as I am not on meds for my heart)....I am looking to see what or which combo may be causing my issues to continue even with the correct meds.
Avatar m tn (cirrhosis) It is critical that your doctor discovers the cause and the medication is adjusted if it is the simvastatin. Here are some other things that may cause the liver to be irritated and the GGT to be elevated.
382218 tn?1341181487 Simvastatin had a beneficial effect on VEP in both latency (p = 0.01) and amplitude (p = 0.01), a borderline effect on the Arden score (p = 0.06) and VAS (p = 0.04), and no effect on brain MRI or on relapse rate between the groups. Conclusion: This study provides Class I evidence that simvastatin 80 mg daily is well tolerated and possibly effective in patients with acute ON.
Avatar m tn Just finished Tx 6 months post UDT and now have been prescribed simvastatin for cholestral. I'm 3/3.5 damaged and was wondering if this is the right aveune to take for meds . Will the hep C be reactivated or will my liver get worse now that its trying to get better. Blood work will follow in 30 days. The VA prescribed Zeitia and my new outside Dr recommended to try the Simvastatin ( Zocar) and stop the Zeita. Does this make any sense to anyone? Any comments are appreciated .
