Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of boniva ibandronate

boniva

Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn I do not know if the papilloma specifically is related, but Boniva and drugs like it can cause swelling around the eyes as you describe. Just read any website discussing adverse effects of Boniva. I think it worth discussing with your doctor. You should be very aware and cautious of any facial swelling while on Boniva.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
Avatar m tn If she has ever taken Boniva, she should worry. Google Osteonecrosis of the jaw, many drugs like Fosomax have bad side effects. A friend lost several teeth and parts of her jaw due to this. She eventually had to have cadaver bone to replace the bone she lost, then implants. She should take other types of calcium supplements.
1026267 tn?1257591273 Care should be taken when taking medications for osteoporosis, as there can be adverse side effects and some dental work should not be performed while on it. I have had osteopenia for many years, and my latest bone scan shows that I've actually rebuilt bone, by implementing a regimen of calcium (1200 mg/day, taken twice daily - I take it at noon and 6:00 pm to prevent conflict with my thyroid med), magnesium (200 mg/day, taken at bedtime, moderate exercise.
Avatar f tn I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling swelling under both eyes. I wondered if this was due to the salt content of the Boniva, The swelling reduced in 24 hours. This has occured every time I have taken the Boniva, which is once monthly.
Avatar f tn Hi and I can so relate to your doubts on the mentioned medicines, I have given up on taking any of them and least of all any bisphosphonates the side effects are simply terrible specially Boniva, there is a site about these meds and all the posters are those women who have taken them, you can look it up under "Boniva side effects" or http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=21455&name=BONIVA, this is a forum where patients detail the side effects they had.
Avatar n tn I believe this drug is widely used in India but not in the U.S. There are several drugs available in the U.S. for the treatment of Osteoporosis and all have some value. One with a similar name (Boniva) is used quite often and is said to have good results.
Avatar f tn The usual reason to do a taper would be to avoid or minimize side effects. If you are tolerating this okay, there may not be a reason to start back up so that you can taper off. Ultimately, you should discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Because of my GERD, my doctor prescribed an IV infusion of Reclast. Unfortunately, I suffered some of the side effects, fever, and severe bone pain to the point of not being able to take in a full breath. My doctor was so concerned he put me on a steroid dose pack to reduce the reaction. My body doesn't seem very tolerant of any drugs, couldn't take anything other than extra strength Tylenol for a foot surgery. I will have to figure out something else with an endocronologist?
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering if any of you have experienced osteoporosis or osteopenia as a result of loss of ovaries? I would appreciate hearing what your doctor recommended as far as treatment too. Thanks!
Avatar n tn m not sure about Reclast, but I do know that Prolia comes with a whole set of possible side effects. I looked into these for my elderly aunt, who had tried Boniva and Actonel, unsuccessfully. It's best to have all dental work done prior to taking these medications, as they cause issues with dental procedures. I don't know the details on that, but they did tell us to make sure she would need no dental work while on the drugs.
Avatar f tn In the end, no one can say who will be among the small percentage of people who experience side effects. I will say again that of all the medications that are used to treat RA, this is the mildest.
Avatar f tn ve stopped the Prempro cold turkey and thus far, only side effect is a headache, tolerable. Is it better on the body to do a taper of the hormones rather than an abrupt stoppage? Thank you.
Avatar f tn It started with the pain in lower back, fingers of hand, neck, heels, left shoulder and near the thorasis spine at left side in 2011. I visited the Doctor and he had advised an X-Ray of spine. In the X-Ray doctor observed Scoliosis with a 4 degree right. Further he referred me to Rheumatologist at higher hospital. Rheumatologist ordered certain Lab tests like CRP, ESR, HLA B27, CBC and X-Rays SI joints. Lab result shows CRP= +ve, ESR=32, HLA B27= +ve and X-Ray was normal.
Avatar f tn If these subsequent tests confirm the diagnosis of cancer recurrence, then you probably need to undergo another round of chemotherapy. If the tumor has spread to your bones, you may also need to be given intravenous bisphosphonates (e.g. Ibandronate, Pamidronate). These drugs will repair your bones and protect them from further damage by the cancer.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
1118724 tn?1357010591 The company plans to issue a Dear Healthcare Provider letter to potential prescribers and pharmacists to make them aware of the Triad product recall and the need to discontinue use of the alcohol prep pads packaged with Boniva Injection, Fuzeon, Nutropin A.Q. Pen, Pegasys, and TNKase. Further information about the Triad Group recall can be found on the FDA website. Patients should consult their healthcare provider for further information.
158939 tn?1274915197 I have also heard that you may feel better if you inject it right before bed so you can sleep through most of the side effects. Please let us know how you do and if you develop any other side effects.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed leviquin for bronchitis and sinus infection after a prior antibiotic didn't work. I was also put on a steroid (dextremethisone) something like that. It was a 10 day treatment. The first couple doses made my heart feel like it was coming out of my chest, that passed.
