1117137 tn?1345227905 is it just me or is second hand smoking SO annoying? i think my radar is just super tuned in right now, but it seems like people just light up and leave their used butts, everywhere! i understand that it is a free world, but i guess i just find it even more bothersome, now that i have another life to support inside me. i will go as far as pulling my shirt over my face as i walk by it, and i don't care who sees that or what they think.
Avatar f tn You and baby are fine unless the smell makes you physically ill.
Avatar f tn I seat down and basically told him the results for second hand smoking and how that was much worse than actually smoking. So we came to the agreement that he would just smoke outside when we come over & he want smoke around me. So just look up the facts on second hand smoking then present your facts to your family & let them know your concerns regarding your unborn child.
2006603 tn?1331329327 There are many risks with second hand smoke exposure even for ppl who are not pregnant. Second hand smoke can cause under developed lungs, increase the chance of sids, low birth weight, baby can develop asthma and a bunch of other things too. Its good your fiance doesn't smoke in the house or around you but he should get into the habbit of not smoking in the car either. The nicotine can settle into the fabrics which is the same as smoking a cigarette while being in the room with the baby.
Avatar n tn t tell they were until this lady literally exhaled the smoke almost in my face as she walked by and I definitely inhaled some second hand smoke -- it was that strong. I literally had to get off the phone and ask them were they serious. I just got a new job and will be expected to take a drug test next week. I normally wouldn't think much of that episode, but am somewhat concerned because I definitely inhaled some of the second hand smoke as they walked by.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor, but I think that it's absolutely terrible if you've gotten COPD from second hand smoke. I really hope that the "second hand" smoker that's been exposing you WILL now have the incentive to quit. I would personally, feel horrible if my smoking caused someone to get copd!!
Avatar f tn Look if you're that worried about your baby then seriously just stop going over there. Think about it if you will. You either be alone or go to your grandma's where you will inhale second hand smoke which is way worse than smoking itself. It's terrible that your gma is like that but if she is indeed like that then just stop going over there. She obviously doesn't care to stop so just stay home and try to stay occupied. Your babies health is of the utmost importance.
5555001 tn?1372873198 There is new research suggesting third-hand smoke (particles on clothing, furniture, etc.) is carcinogenic, not just first- and devond-hand. Any time you can smell it, you and your kids are exposed to cancer-causing agents. I have no idea what the law says, but you might be able to bring this up with your landlord (research in hand) or even CPS. Of course, it may be that nothing comes if it, in which case you will have to live with it, or find a different living situation.
467579 tn?1289402969 Maybe because emphysema is such a politically incorrect disease to have, even if it has nothing to do with smoking or who knows. (maybe the payback isn't good) I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I do have a science degree(environmental) and my youngest has several degrees - undergraduate/honors in molecular genetics & minor in biochemistry, one and 1/2 years biophysics, 4 years PCMB (plant cellular molecular biology) and Plant pathology. My question (comment) mostly to the Dr.
Avatar f tn Even second hand smoke can be harmful. Ask them to smoke outside and not around you. Visit smoke free houses. Just the smell can make some women nauseous.
Avatar f tn Now that a lot more is known about second-hand smoke, I'm really curious if when I got married to a smoker if that didn't bring on my allergies. Within 1.5 years of being married and living with a smoker, I all of sudden developed severe allergies where I was waking up every 30 minutes because my nose was completely closed up. I became allergic to the world, there's no place I can move to alleviate it.
Avatar f tn Second hand smoke could possibly have some effect on fertility being around it consistently. Especially if it's indoors or in a closed off environment. Other than that if it isn't too often, it wouldn't be as much of a problem. Second hand smoke often is more or less like smoking yourself, you're still getting the toxins.
Avatar f tn There is very lukewarm research currently available about the effects of Marijuana second-hand smoke (the ones that give clear-cut answers are usually opinionated and not scientifically credible); but just to be safe, stay clear when you can. Good luck mom!
Avatar f tn If you smoke it, yes the smoke is harmful but there are a million other things that are harmful to be around such as second hand smoke, eating lunchmeat, drinking coffee, changing litter boxes, being around mold, breathing in cleaning products and bleach while cleaning etc. With that being said, pot is illegal and therefore most moms or moms to be are going to be against it. If you do it you are taking a risk and not knowing what it could do.
5601615 tn?1383450616 I don't think any kind of smoke is safe for babies
Avatar f tn is the baby breathing in second hand smoke? If not...
Avatar f tn I smoked on cigarette today but that's the first cigarette I had since I got pregnant I mean I'm sometimes around my uncle who smokes everyday and I heard second hand smoke is worse so I was wondering was it harmful to my babygirl when I did smoke that cigarette?
Avatar f tn I think it would be beneficial for both you and your husband to quit smoking. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous and you don' t need to be around it once you are pregnant. Aside from that it's not healthy for a child to be around cigarette smoke either. Talk with your physician about aids to help you quit. But, as KarenDiane said, you have to have a reason that is worth it to you. For me, I quit smoking cold turkey the day after I found out I was pregnant with my second child.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.
Avatar f tn my bf smokes not inside but I still smell it off his clothes n if I go to a bbq at a family member house I have second hand smoke. ..I try n walk a way cus I know its bad to breath that in...all I think about is having one I'm craving it...what should I do ...
Avatar f tn its jus smoking & second hand smoke you jus gotta worry about. more of second hand smoke tho.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. I really never drank before and didn't do drugs so my only thing is my smoking. But the other problem is that if second hand smoke causes the same thing, my Child's father and I live together and he smokes a pack a day or so and doesn't plan on quitting. So as for now that is my milestone. It's hard to quit when you're around it constantly.
Avatar f tn Look up some articles if you want to know the effects of smoking. You don't want to put anything into your body tat isn't good for either of you while you are pregnant. I don't know of any doctors who would encouraged you to continue smoking unless you are stressing out more from not smoking.
Avatar f tn Can totally relate. I'm 17 young I know. But even before I got pregnant, I was like this. I hated being around people that smoked and I would hold my breath when I would first smell in like passing someone who was smoking just because of second hand smoke. I wouldn't do it dramatically so they would notice but just for myself. And when I got pregnant it was the same.
