Avatar n tn I recently went on a a 7 day cruise and wore the scopolamine patch from the first day and changed at 3 days. A total of 2 patches. I removed the patch the day I got home within 24 hours of removal I became very ill vomiting and nauseated. This continured throughout the next day. I called the Dr. and she told me to take dramamine. I remembered I had one patch left so I applied the patch again. Within 3 hours I was feeling better and that next day began to feel better.
Avatar n tn It seems clear that the meclizine taper is the way to go to get off of the transdermal scopolamine patch and I will attempt it. In this scenario, from what I've read, Zofran does not appear to be an essential part of the taper. I have also read elsewhere on the web (not only here) that lamictal together with magnesium sulfate is sometimes used to combat the withdrawal symptoms. I saw one person mentioned lamictal but rejected it as a possible solution. Here is my question.
Avatar f tn He suggested taking either Dramamine® or Bonine®, over-the-counter medications sold specifically for motion sickness and they are FDA category B, indicating that they are probably safe in pregnancy. He said there is always mixed feelings in different doctors, about them and that I definitely should Not take the scopolamine patch as it may be "safe" in pregnancy but there is less known about it and it falls into category C.
Avatar f tn I have extreme flying phobia and get motion sick easy. I took dramamine and xanax and it kept me from getting sick or panicing. I took quite a bit of each just to keep settled and can't imagine flying without both now. When anxiety would creep up I just took half a dramamine and it would go away.
Avatar n tn What is the best way to wean off the scopolamine patch in an elderly person? Can we use the cream instead and slowly increase the time between use?
Avatar f tn No you need to go to the doctor and they will give you sickness pills that are safe to use
1777402 tn?1317176783 I did go get the dramamine I will let hall know if it works
Avatar f tn The dizziness and nausea started occuring about 3 days after that and has gotten a little worse. I talked to my doctor and he told me to take Benadryl and Dramamine for the dizziness and nausea. The nausea is gone, but the dizziness is still there. I have to work and it is really hard when you are dizzy. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn I used gravol and U.S. equivalent dramamine for awhile as one of my migraine treatments I believe prior to getting the diagnosis of POTS. I think it made my tachy worse, but then, so does the phenergan I use now about five times a month, it seems like, but I still use it. The itchy eyelids, etc. with the dramamine caused me to quit it.
617846 tn?1231553233 I have an old dear patient that I have known for years, who is going on a cruise soon out of Port Canaveral near my house and she wants to use the same scopolamine patch. She is going to give it a test run tomorrow and see me at 2 pm to see if it causes any changes in her eye pressure.
Avatar f tn I'm scheduled to have a VNG on Tuesday at 3:15pm. I'm a migraine sufferer and I haven't gotten a clear answer from the audiologist about whether Effexor and Topamax will interfere with the results of the VNG. My neurologist has told me that I'm not allowed to stop those. I also have a question about muscle relaxers like Amrix and Zanaflex. I'm trying to go off of my meclazine and this morning has shown me that the next four days are going to be really rough.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with labyrinthitis and have been wearing a scopolamine patch for the past 4 weeks. I've heard to cover 1/4, then 1/2, and then 3/4 of the patch to wean off avoid withdrawal. I'm 48 hours into covering 1/4 of the patch and i have a horrible headache, dizzy, and nauseated. Any help, tips, welcome. I just want to be able to go to work and take care of my kids like a normal person again.
746917 tn?1234571359 I told the nurse and she removed the scopolamine patch behind my left ear. I had never been given that before and have no idea why they decided to use it. I went home from the hospital with blurry vision and 2 weeks later not much has improved. Symptoms: bright light hurts eyes- must use hat and sunglasses outdoors dizzy and distorted vision when in bright light cannot drive riding in car makes me sick if my eyes stay open can only use the computer limited time approx.
Avatar n tn Has anyone with scopolamine patch withdrawal just tried to go cold turkey and tough it out? IF so, how long did it take you to feel better?
Avatar n tn Hi Gina, It is definitely from the scopolamine. I have been on 16 cruises and everytime I have stopped the scopolamine I have the same symptoms of extreme fatigue. The first 24 hours after I stopped the medication there was no problem, but when I awoke the next day I was really out of it. I do not suffere from the nausea or headache that you have encountered. It usually subsides after about 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn I was put on a scopolamine patch in Sept.'10 and have been wearing it fr the last 8 months. It is pute HELL everytime I try to get off of it. The Dr.s have diagnosed me with Meniere's Disease but I can't get off the patch for them to do definitive testing. My Dr. has put me on an oral for of scopolamine but if I am even an hour or two late taking my dose I am deathly ill. And each tinme I get sick it is worse than the time beforel.

Avatar f tn I looked on my bottle of Dramamine for the chemical name and it is Meclizine Hydrochloride. And kimmiller112 is right, it's used for motion sickness and in the States it's available over the counter (no prescription is required). Good luck! I hope you find it and that it helps!
Avatar f tn I have an exploratory laparoscopy in a week and a half for infertility issues and suspected endo. I haven't really had surgery aside from my wisdom teeth, and as a complete and utter emetophobe I am petrified of being sick that day or so afterwards from the anesthesia/pain meds. I was wondering if you all have any tips for avoiding sickness post-surgery. Did the scopolamine patch work for you? Zofran? I would love any advice to ease my mind! Thanks so much!!
Avatar f tn s been a week and no changes. Can anyone help me? I am dizzy from the moment I wake up and go to sleep. No migraines, but I can't focus on anything and life is miserable. Please help!
