Avatar n tn Does anybody know if scarlet fever scars or causes loss of pigmentation? recently getting over, but skin has not healed while some parts look white and some are still red?? And would sunbathing help to dry out or just make scarring worse?
Avatar f tn As far as I know it is bacterial... the bacterial illness, scarlet fever, causes a distinctive pink-red rash, which occurs when the bacteria release toxins. Scarlet fever is extremely contagious - people can catch it by breathing in the bacteria in airborne droplets that come from an infected individual's sneezes or coughs. Infection may also occur as a result of touching the skin of an infected person, or touching surfaces or objects that the infected person has touched.
Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. As for scarlet fever, the rash usually develops a day or two after the onset of fever. Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.
Avatar m tn Start your research there, then be sure to also look into rheumatic fever - which is an after effect of the the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever and involves various inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It's sort of like having an allergic reaction to an infection. The body then attacks its own organs as if they were the infection - cross reactivity of antibodies.
Avatar f tn I had scarlet fever as a child in the mid 70s, I was very sick for a long long time as I was miss diagnosed by 3 or more drs, I haven't had a great time in my life when it comes to fever's, I still have hallucination fever's in my mid 40s, does it effect your long term health?
Avatar f tn But want to comment in case anyone else researching comes across this. The scarlet fever symptoms and the pink eye is indicative of possible Kawasaki syndrome. Ask your doctors about this possibility. Currently dealing with my sons battle with scarlet fever. Going into the second week...amoxicillin (10 days) seemed to work then on day 9 of treatment rash returned. We started azithromycin (3 days) thinking it developed resistance to penicillin. One dose of azithromycin made a HUGE difference.
Avatar n tn I am asking whether I could get this from my partner they show no signs at all but in the last week their hands have started to peel in exactly the same way mine are following the scarlet fever rash. I am worried that this may not be scarlet fever but something more, is there any std that comes across this way. My Doctor has said that is highly unlikely I was infected from my partner following their treatment or that I was reinfected from them following my antibiotics course.
Avatar n tn A rash and a fever could be scarlet fever. How high is the temp?
Avatar f tn Other possibilities needed to be ruled out are viral exanthem, Mycoplasma pneumoniae - serological test and chest radiography is important to rule out and should be treated with appropriate antibiotic, Rocky Mountain spotted fever (it is tick borne disease and needs serological test for diagnosis), infectious mononucleosis, and scarlet fever; as a result of streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, Kawasaki disease, and dengue. Hence, you need to undergo serological tests for few common causes.
Avatar f tn You know scarlet fever was never considered a really bad illness ,times have changed I had it at around 3 year old it was no biggy then .
Avatar m tn looking for advise, my son is 9+yrs and has had a stiff neck since oct/nov last year. suddenly 2mo's ago he got really swollen glands with sore throat and bad chest infection with wheezing asthma, followed by high fever ard 5days later. it affected his liver too for e next 2months_swollen and palpable, with upset stomach and pain below the ribs. the doc suspected EBV, so he was told no sports for 2mo's. a test showed that it was an old ebv infection, but not active.
Avatar f tn ASO is an antibody which is generated in response to infection by Group A streptococci. Diseases which cause high ASO titer are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, erysipelas, acute post streptococcal glomerulonephritis. In scarlet fever there is fever, abdominal pain, sore throat but there is a classical sandpapery feel rash which helps in its diagnosis. Rheumatic fever is characterized by appearance of a rash, skin nodules, joint pains, fever, heart problem, and involuntary movements .
Avatar m tn I also had sores all over my body one time from what I read online I would say I had Scarlet fever but the doctor said its exactly like scarlet fever but its not?
Avatar f tn Hi any help is much appreciated. So 5 days ago I had a fever of about 102 to 103 then at one point the fever stopped right after it stopped I got a rash that started under my armpits and inner thighs and my pelvic where my stomach meets my groin and the back of my knees. So I went to the doc and she diagnosed me with scarlet fever. So she gave me amoxiciila and methylprednisolone.
Avatar n tn Hello, You have not mentioned your daughter’s age. If your daughter is a child then the possibility of rocky mountain spotted fever, Kawasaki disease and scarlet fever are there. Rash in all these involves the palms and soles and is a red, shiny rash. Investigations and blood tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn Hello Im concerned about my almost 4year old son who has recently finished a 5day course of antibiotics- penicillin, for scarlet fever, its the first time he's had them. within a day or so of finishing the course he is having pains in his tummy which seem to come on mainly from walking any further than around the house, and also sometimes eating.iv just bought some probiotics and am hoping thats all thats needed? Id be really grateful to hear from anyone with similer experience or advice??
Avatar f tn Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.
Avatar n tn My son had developed Scarlet Fever, which is Strep bacteria that has gotten into the blood stream. Strep produces an erythrotoxin (red toxin) that causes the redness. It may cause a rash, too. I would take your child to a doctor immediately.
Avatar f tn Other less likely viral exanthematous infection and bacterial infection like Mycoplasma pneumoniae - serological test and chest radiography is important to rule out and should be treated with appropriate antibiotic, Rocky Mountain spotted fever (it is tick borne disease and needs serological test for diagnosis), scarlet fever; as a result of streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, Kawasaki disease.
