Common Questions and Answers about Scarlet fever kidney damage

scarlet-fever

Avatar f tn Hi Odette72, If you were never treated for Scarlet fever you can get long term complications from it like Rheumatic fever or kidney problems. Also, fever, pneumonia, throat abscesses, ear infections and skin infections. Most people don't get the complications but it can happen and that is why they treat this with antibiotics early on. Maybe you can see an infectious disease doctor. Do you have any problems with your kidneys or heart? If not that hopefully you will be okay.

Luckily her other friend lived near by and walked in and said what are doing it is freezing in here. He is a microbiologist too like me and he took her to the hospital. I sent him to day care for one day as I had to go to office and he came back with minor fever again. We thought his antibiotics is still not finished may be he will be fine. Next morning his legs badly hurt. Then I notice he was starting pink eye.
Avatar m tn Strep throat should be diagnosed as quickly as possible because of the serious complications that can develop if left untreated. These include rheumatic fever, which can damage the heart, and acute nephritis, which can damage the kidneys; both can be fatal. The onset of strep throat is characterised by sudden high fever and a severe sore throat. The bacterium responsible for scarlet fever, a strep-related illness, can also cause pharyngitis.
Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. As for scarlet fever, the rash usually develops a day or two after the onset of fever. Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
Avatar f tn I had a history of Strep Throat - caught Scarlet Fever, which moved into RF. Does your daughter have a tendency to get Strep? If so, it's important to catch it and treat it with antibiotics immediately. From the time I was diagnosed with RF, I had monthly Penecillin injections for many years. It kept me from getting strep again and turning into something worse. Keep doing the penecillin. Hope this helps . . .
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar n tn I am asking whether I could get this from my partner they show no signs at all but in the last week their hands have started to peel in exactly the same way mine are following the scarlet fever rash. I am worried that this may not be scarlet fever but something more, is there any std that comes across this way. My Doctor has said that is highly unlikely I was infected from my partner following their treatment or that I was reinfected from them following my antibiotics course.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.

Avatar f tn Group A Streptococcus is responsible for diseases such as glomerulonephritis, rheumatic fever (causes joint pains), bacterial endocarditis, and scarlet fever. The ASO level is usually less than 160 Todd units per milliliter. In your case the titer is high. In adults this has no significance unless there are specific symptoms related to streptococcal infection like sore throat, skin infections, heart symptoms or kidney symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi, Freckles and irregularly shaped brownish areas (melanotic macules) are common around the lips and may last for many years. These marks are not cause for concern. Multiple, small, scattered brownish black spots may be a sign of a hereditary disease called Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, in which polyps form in the stomach and intestines. Sun damage may make the lips, especially the lower lip, hard and dry.
