458072 tn?1291415186 Rotavirus is very contagious and does cause more than 500,000 deaths in young children each year, but this is mostly in developing countries. In the United States, rotavirus is responsible for only “several dozen” deaths a year, according to Hamburg. Typically, when a child in the United States contracts rotavirus, and most do, only rest and fluids are required to recover. This infection also provides natural immunity that will protect your child for life.
Avatar m tn Hi there, DAPTACEL is a vaccine indicated for active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis as a five dose series in infants and children 6 weeks through 6 years of age. Combination vaccines save between 3 to 6 injections during the first 2 years of life .Pediarix is a DTaP-Hep B-IPV Combination Vaccine. This is a FDA approved vaccine .It is safe and effective. Since you have already started series of Pediarix it is better to continue with the same.
Avatar n tn t sound as lactose intolerance. Viral diarrhea (Rotavirus) is common in children younger than 5 years, and some immunity develops after that, so it would be unusual to have 4 consecutive bouts of diarrhea from the virus. What is the color and consistence of his stool? How many times a day? He is complaining (or you suspect) about school problems? Any abdominal pain, if yes, where exactly?

Avatar n tn My 3 month old son has been having 9-10 green mucousy stools per day since he received his 2nd dose of the Rotavirus vaccine, Rotateq. It has been 10 days with no improvement. He is in a lot of pain before and during a bowel movement. Other than that, he seems perfectly fine. Is this a common side effect of the vaccine? How long will this last? What can I do to help him get better?

Avatar f tn Muscle pain and fatigue may occur in few. In very few cases there can be fever and swollen glands in the neck. This side effect may last for a few days following vaccination and improves. Rotavirus is also well tolerated. Side effects are very rare and easily treatable .Generally the benefits of vaccines outweigh the risks. Very serious side effects can happen with any vaccine but are very rare. I hope it helps. Take care and regards!

3227684 tn?1347373065 Hello everyone, I have always had the fear to vomit, which mainly implies fear to contract norovirus or rotavirus. I had gastroenteritis once during my childhood; since then, I didn't have it; at least, I didn't throw up. But the fear is always present, especially today, because I walked near a vomit pool on the floor of a public place. It was not very close to me; I was certainly at three to five meters from it. Is it possible that I catch the virus?
585414 tn?1288941302 They include the norovirus, which causes winter vomiting, and rotavirus, which results in severe diarrhoea and kills thousands of children in developing countries....
Avatar f tn Every child is different even in the same family. It is good to hear she eats well. Sometimes children need extra calories and protein to help them gain weight and grow. Suggest giving her milkshakes (milk, ice cream and fruit blended) or yogurt smoothies (yogurt, fruit, and ice cream blended) at every meal or in place of milk for the additional calories to help her gain weight. Hoped this helped you.
Avatar f tn The doctor also told me that my son is skinny because the rotavirus affected his vitamin absorption in the large intestine... So now he is tall but thin.. But that isn't a bad thing at all.. He is so smart but thin... So it has som effects but not all bad..

8101930 tn?1420001456 My son is 2 months and just received his first shots yesterday including the rotavirus vaccine. I noticed that after his shots and today he has been pooping yellow colored like normal but it is very chunky. He is exclusively breast fed and always has a little bit of a seedy stool but this is very chunky. I'm Just curious if anyone knows if this is normal or not. Could it be from the rotavirus vaccine because they do ingest it. Thanks.
Avatar m tn If a child has diagnosed with congenital "absent IGF-1" and in early life was infected with giardia and rotavirus (4 month old immediately after weaning) does this affect the GI healing and repar after treating them?
Avatar m tn s safer to space out the vaccinations as opposed to piling 5 in one visit, per the CDC schedule. Is your baby in daycare? If in daycare, I think DTaP and HIB are good to start with. I did not do Rotavirus or Pc.
223520 tn?1221440283 So that was the first thing that got me upset. Then the nurse comes in and gets ready to give my son the rotavirus vaccine. I was like he has never had it. She proceeds to give it to him!! I was like um, can you ask the dr. about it? She was like fine. So he comes in and was like Im soo sorry!! I was like OMG! WHAT?! He was like we should have never given him the rotavirus vaccine, since he has never had it. He was like I assumed he had it before. I am freaking out!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn My son is almost 3 years old and keeps suffering periods of sickness followed by diarrhoea. It has happened 4 times in the past 9 months and each occurrence has lasted between 5 days and 3 weeks. He is in the middle of a bout at the moment which is more severe than the others have been, the sickness has finished after 5 days and now the diarrhoea is a bright yellow mucas and really smells vinegary. Could there be an underlying cause for this?
