Avatar f tn Hello my peeps. Sorry I've been MIA - but those of you who know me, know the multiple medical reasons why. Anywho, I went to my neuro again today (now I see her every 2-3 months instead of every month). I had told her that my primary sent me for another neuropsych eval because of the issues I told her I was having. I had the testing at the University about 3 wks ago & won't get the final results until the 18th.

Avatar n tn Is there any kind of help for people in the first stages of dementia beside Namenda.? Is there anything in the health food stores that can be taken.? And does vitamin B1 help.?
Avatar m tn If anyone in your family has experienced dementia at a young age (before 65), you and other family members may be at increased risk of developing frontal lobe dementia (FTD) – also known as Pick's disease. A new blood test may reveal your specific risk. In 1892, Czechoslovakian neurologist Arnold Pick first documented a type of dementia in which degeneration of cells occurs in the cerebral cortex (the outer layer of the brain) where cognitive and behavioral functions are controlled.
Avatar f tn That's complex. It depends when it first started. Dementia is very clinically specific and only a neurologist could distinguish between that and psychosis though dementia usually involves forgetfulness and memory loss. I do know that elderly relatives I have that were diagnosed with dementia improved with the medication Namenda.
1346447 tn?1327862572 After six months of medicine that problem is over but now she had dementia. Is it possible that dementia may be side effect of medicines? The age of my wife is 70.
Avatar f tn My mom was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia in October 2015. Her disease has progressed a lot in the last 4 months. I found out recently that one of her sisters also had dementia. My question, am I at a higher risk to get this disease? If so is there a time when symptoms would begin to show in me?
Avatar n tn dementia or alzhemier <can't spell it, can also show the same signs as a reaction to medication, or a different illness that has gone undiagnosed you should talk to that family members doctors. if it is a medication problem it can stop the signs but if it is dementia or alzhiemers then they have medication that can help prolong the person lives and reduce early problems.. but there is no cure at this time.. just don't get angry or overreact..
Avatar f tn Vascular dementia, which occurs after a stroke, is the second most common dementia type. But there are many other conditions that can cause symptoms of dementia, including some that are reversible, such as thyroid problems and vitamin deficiencies. Dementia is often incorrectly referred to as "senility" or "senile dementia," which reflects the formerly widespread but incorrect belief that serious mental decline is a normal part of aging.
Avatar n tn One of the reasons this is possible is because of the new program for obtaining medical degrees. You collect two thousand boxtops from a popular breakfast cerial, eat thirty five hot-dogs consecutavely (this is a times exercise) and must obtain a written recommendation from the Dahli Lahma.
Avatar f tn Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. Dementia can be caused by many things like other diseases such as parkinson's, hormones, oxygen deprivation (from low lung function or carotid blockages) or other. Most have slightly different progressions.
Avatar n tn I've had a recent history (child history of trauma, injury and other issues) of seizures. After CT's, MRI's and several VEEG's I have been diagnosed with PNES or non-epileptic seizures. I believe that this diagnosis is right since I've previously been diagnosed by a therapist with PTSD, dissociative amnesia and conversion disorder (they referred me to the neurologists for further evaluation of the seizures).
Avatar f tn Because of the dementia she does not remember the cancer diagnosis. I wonder if that is what keeps her going. Her dementia is now stage 5, well into the moderate stages. In my opinion the dementia is what she will eventually die from not the cancer or the COPD. Her Drs gave her 6 months to live 2 1/2 years ago. Her only continued symptoms are a cough and getting winded on exertion. She won't do oxygen or her nebulizer. Like I said, very slow decline.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure why you are asking this. Alzheimers and UTI's are not related. Having symptoms like you'd have with a UTI would not mean anything about someone's mental state, dementia or neurological deterioration. Maybe more details would help us help you better.
Avatar f tn What the studies do show for a fact is that even mild exercise seems to completely erase any possible association between HSV and dementia. So while the connection between HSV and and dementia is currently just a hypothesis, the association between exercise as a preventive against dementia is not! Take acyclovir if you have HSV if you want. But definitely get exercise anyhow!
Avatar f tn However, my doctor has been concerned about my continuing on this medicine because of my strong family history of developing dementia at about my age. So I have recently tried to stop taking my sleep aid. At present, I am going two or three nights without the clonazepam, but taking an antihistamine for my nasal clogging and dripping at bedtime.
Avatar m tn My mother was having memory problems, and eventually convinced her PCP to test her. Her PET scan came back as "Abnormal" and "Early Stage Dementia." Now, it was 3 weeks before we could see a Neurologist. Then he said, this they should have done other tests before this, and sent us to someone else. Now, it's 27 days until THAT test takes place. In Florida and they move like turtles. Many also have are egomaniacs.
Avatar f tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dementia/symptoms-causes/syc-20352013 I have read thought that doctors ARE hesitant to diagnose alzheimers disease until they have observed the dementia over a period of time. 6 to 12 months, unfortunately. https://www.helpguide.org/harvard/recognizing-and-diagnosing-alzheimers.htm They repeat the evaluations to be sure.
Avatar m tn I am curious as to how many years of having hep C is it when the dementia comes into play?? My mother has had it for over 50 years and is showing signs of dementia. She has done many rounds of interfuron and it is still there with her counts in the millions..... Now she has gotten the family to believe her dilerious rants and ousted me from the entire family....which is not that big to begin with, but now all 9 are in on her strange delirium.
Avatar f tn My dad is suffering from frontotemperal dementia from last two years and recently undergone keyhole surgery for blood clot (brain). Now he is not able to move his right arm and leg and is bedridden. My question is this due to surgery or due to dementia?will physiotherapy help? can you please suggest something....
Avatar m tn Is there any test for Dementia being caused by Staton drugs also does the patient's condition get worse or are they inclined to stay on a level for longer periods Regards Tony181947
Avatar f tn This does not sound like "perverted" and "disrespectful" to me. It sounds like dementia. He absolutely cannot be left to live alone, and arranging assisted living can be a lengthy process. I understand that you do not feel comfortable in the environment. And it would be perfectly understandable if you need to find somewhere else to stay for the time being while his living situation is being worked out.
