Risperdal for schizophrenia

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal for schizophrenia

risperdal

Avatar n tn I've been taking risperdal for almost 3 weeks and whenever I smoked some weed, it made my high really intense and pretty scarey. Is weed interfering with the medication?
Avatar n tn s used for depression, anxiety, ocd, panic. Sizodon 2 is an atypical antipsychotic. Risperdal is the name in my country. These agents are used for schizophrenia, yes, but also bipolar and major depression. You have some overlap in medication that seems like a lot. We can't really guess your diagnosis You need to speak to the doctor whether it's not usually done or not. What symptoms prompted these meds being prescribed?
Avatar f tn Risperdal is an antipsychotic given for many disorders at this point although it was originally intended for schizophrenia. There are other medications that are traditionally used for bipolar. I think you really need to consult a pediatric psychiatrist for decisions revolving around medication----- and there is also a doctor's forum here that may be of more assistence. But that is all so personal to the child ----- only a professional in your area can give you legitimate advice.
Avatar n tn I believe so. Someone I know takes that for schizophrenia. I'm not A Dr. though. I think if you look up the drug name on-line it will tell you all about it.
Avatar m tn I've been taking Risperdal 1mg for a month now what would happen if I stop taking them for a week and then start smoking weed
Avatar f tn My 4 year old started risperdal on 28 May for the conditions are above. Will she take it forever or is it a lifetime treatment This discussion is related to Depakote, Risperdal, Luvox in 8 year old boy.
Avatar m tn I took Risperdal Consta and Lithium for 7 months while being in the hospital. When I got out of the hospital, boy was I sorry! My cognitive abilities were down about 70%. I also had sleeping problems and chronic fatigue. When I read a book, I had no memory retention of what I read. If you value your son's life, take him off all the drugs, drugs are poison, and take him to a homeopathic doctor.
Avatar m tn I took respirdal a while ago for perceptual distortions. It was helpful for them but it made me feel way too slow. I was not even taking that much. But I'm not schizophrenic so that's probably why. I didn't experience those side effects you were describing. I was really tired all the time though. I never slept so good in my life. One time I had dystonia from taking compazine for about 3 days. I woke up and felt stiff at first.
886552 tn?1241590297 how long did it take for him to feel good again after he got of the risperdal and how long would it take for the risperdal to leave ur systym after taking it for a year to c if the risperdal is actually creating my problems can risperdal cause loss of emotional and just general life feelings yer i will discuss it with my doctor keep in touch peace
Avatar n tn -- your words You need to see your doctor again. I wonder about the Risperdal - I believe it is not approved for children under 10 in the U.S. (unless, you are living in another country, then it could be approved there, but I doubt it). ODD is a very serious diagnosis and could be a preceder to bi-polar or other mood/personality disorders (is there a history of severe mental health issues on either side of the family?).
Avatar m tn s an atypical anti psychotic originally used for schizophrenia. It was a game changer for that disorder. While risperdal is used off label for things like autism and a lot of people that have autism (anywhere on the spectrum) often have overlapping adhd as a secondary diagnosis, this doesn't mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal. Risperdal seems to help with aggressive behavior and behavior problems in general and likely communication. with kids on the spectrum.
Avatar n tn I am writing for answers for my 15 Year old son with Autism. He has been on Risperdal for about 5 years now and was taking 4mg x 2 daily, HIGH, I KNOW. He is 5'10" 165 lbs. For about the past 6 months he has started with some new behaviors. I relayed these to his Psychiatrist and she has had no comment on them. I researched them myself and found they mimic Tardive dyskinesia in many ways. I have found a new Psychiatrist but can not get in to see her for approx 2 more weeks.
Avatar m tn risperdal works much like seraquil...for schizophrenia and bipolar disorders..but has a side effect of deep sleep ..vistaril is an antihistamine with a side effect of drowsiness as well..i am glad u got some sleep..sounds like it was much needed..sleep is important to recovery as we become weak without it...i do know some say they have a medicine head after taking seraquil and risperdal....that droggy feeling in the am....
Avatar n tn my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.
Avatar m tn That has improved all symptoms and is in study as an adjunct medication for schizophrenia. The primary antipsychotic I am on is glycine which is still in phase 2 study but the medications I am on for the tardive dyskinesia (with the exception of rhodiola a natural remedy in clinical study) would all be able to be prescribed by a neurologist who is a trained movement disorders specialist.
12268405 tn?1427853361 If you read on it, it is usually reserved for resistant bipolar disorder and schizophrenia with a history of multiple suicide attempts. There are other meds like risperdal, zyprexa, and such out there. For myself, risperdal worked really well. Since you posted back in early April, I hope you got a chance to talk about your confusion and concerns about the hallucinations.
Avatar f tn ve done on my own).....there is no med for PTSD. The meds they hand out for PTSD are only for associated symptoms. These meds your son has been put on are some heavy-duty stuff...not usually given to kids. I'd really be weary and get a 2nd opinion.
Avatar n tn We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
Avatar f tn t taken an antipsychotic all these years though I wish they had caught up with the tardive in time before it progressed this far. But with new treatments in the works for schizophrenia such as the glutamate antagonists (of which I'm on glycine as a study compound and fully recovered) hopefully people with schizophrenia won't get it anymore after they become medications. And right now I'm recovering well with the rhodiola as I've mentioned as well as the Tizanidine.
Avatar n tn my 4 year old with autism was on risperdal, he had some levels run high so his dr decided to switch him to Tenex...he took his last risperdal 1mg tablet 3 times/day on friday night 11-12-10...he started the tenex 1/2 of a 1mg tablet twice/day saturday morning. since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...
Avatar m tn I then got hospitalised for aggression. I was on the drug Risperidone(Risperdal) for two months and also on Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injections. And I developed social anxiety, poor attention and zero social skills. After getting off the clinic, I self medicated to Risperidone(Risperdal), Clonazepam (Rivotril) and Mirtazapine (Remeron) at recommended dosage (And Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injection) and feel good, and developed social skills, and social anxiety is less.
Avatar n tn He is currently on Depakote for his epilepsy and was on Risperdal, until he had to be weaned off due to even more aggressive behavior. At home, he acts fine, occasionally defiant, but nothing really bad. At school, he gets sent home frequently and now they are saying he is having paranoid behavior. He thinks people are out to get him, talking bad about him, don't like him, etc. His school has made an appointment with the school psychiatrist, but is talking about possible hospitalization.
Avatar f tn I've been off zanax for 117 days now and not taking any meds after years of taking the zanax. Now I don't know if my side effects are weird or valid and it's driving me to my end.... With this "bouncy" walk and my muscles in legs feeling like waves I'm searching the internet and finding all kinds of weird stuff. My feet tingle and the muscles in my eyes hurt. Is this normal? Will someone please answer me on this site and help....

Avatar m tn My son just recently started taking risperdal. I am discovering that good help is very difficult to find. He is currently taking 1.5 mg a day. Last night he could not sleep at all and was afraid because he said the medication made him feel tired but his thoughts are still racing and he can't sleep. Is this something I should inform his doctor about or should I wait for his next week appointment.
