risperdal dosage information

I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08

There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage. My question is, is this reversible once he discontinues Risperdal?

my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.

I responded relatively well to Risperdal. It is rare although not unknown that it can cause any form of heart arrythmia (this can happen with all the atypicals) but if you mean lowering blood pressure that is different and that can happen with all antipsychotics and is generally of less concern. Orthostatic hypertension (having difficulty when suddenly standing) can happen with all antipsychotics for example.

My stomach hurts and I have to use the bathroom (diarrhea) a lot. I have pelvic pain and my ribs started hurting really bad this morning. I've been dizzy after eating and nauseous in the morning after brushing my teeth. These symptoms are sporadic though I don't get them all the time. He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.

At the same time, Seroquel dosage could stay the same and another drug be added or the Risperdal be increased. It will be dependent upon your case.

It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.

I need information on the effects of taking Risperdal and Marijuana to give to my husband's 14yr. old grandson.

I am in desperate need of some insight regarding medication for Autism and ADHD. My son is 7 years old. He started out on Risperdal when he was 4 but we quickly took him off because he quickly ballooned by 15 lbs. in 1 month. We eventually ended up on Abilify and Tenex (Guanfacine) and he's been taking that combination for about 3 years. Now we are at the point where those two meds were not working at all and we were already at the approved dosage limits.

and ya, this is very difficult for you. I feel for you. You should be getting more information on dealing with autistic kids. There are very specific ways to deal with a child having a melt down and ways to prevent that.

I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
