518117 tn?1429276273 The minor tremors caused by lithium are seperate and that unlike the Haldol can be adjusted for. And if he does need an antipsychotic, the atypical antipsychotics, from Risperdal onwards and less likely to have the severe effects of Haldol. Most likely they just stabilized him and released him and a follow up visit with the psychiatrist to adjust and fine tune things should improve things.
Avatar f tn I have mood changes. It affect my family. I'am screaming and crying, also depresed and nervous. I'am taking lithium, depakote and haldol. My pdoc give me a list of thinks to do every day (exsise, restriction in coffie consuming, etc), but i could not manage to come back in ,,normal,,..Please if you have these problems tell me how you are managing to control yourself.
440120 tn?1211724496 I was taking Haldol for my bi-polar and it made me too sleepy. I also took Trilafon and it worked well, but there isn't any $4 plan for it. I found out that my Pharmacy has a program for me to get Abilify for free so I want to give it a try. I was wondering if there are any bad side affects to look out for.
2064758 tn?1331299797 Bipolar can have variants such as bipolar with psychotic features or schizoaffective disorder (such as I have) that have both mood and thought disturbances and can often require both a mood stabilizer and antipsychotic (as is true of myself). You could discuss this with the psychiatrist as well.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone, I am very new to all this. A very good friend of mine has been diagnosed BP / PTSD he's currently incarcerated and they are medicating him through sedation, he is taking Depakote which is a normal BP med for him but they were giving him 200mg Thorazine a day until I B*tched and moaned about it till they changed it to Haldol and Cogentin (?) with the Depakote.
750223 tn?1234384662 wouldnt that be better than a spiraling depression which is happening NOW. Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar m tn I am the only care taker for my sister who is Bio-Polar and has been on Lithium and Haldol for 42 years. She is 60 years of age - back in the 70's she underwent approximately 120 electric shock threatments because this was apparently deemed right at that time. She suffers almost all of the side affects from the above medications and I would like to know what is the safest way for her to transcend to a newer medication with less side affects.
273579 tn?1256655053 my son is 2 1/2 yrs old, diagnosed with global dev delay,he goes through these spells of screaming and constantly hurting himself and anyone around him,he has turned real mean, they have him on risperdal, lorazapham, clonazepam, and haldol, the only one that seemed to have a little effect was the clonazepam, but its still to early to know on that one since they just started it yesterday,.
Avatar m tn I've been experiencing horrible derealization and depersonalization which leads to these massive panic attacks. They occur while I am in my own home and really cripple me when I decide I want to leave my house. That leads to my agoraphobia, which is a seperate matter I suppose. I was hoping someone could suggesst any medications for my derealization and depersonalization. I've heard for many years now that there are none. I have even tried beta blockers for help.
Avatar f tn I am eating next to nothing and have lost over 10% of my body weight due to this. Thank you for your input. My level is 165. Also would this elevation be causing nausea?
Avatar m tn There is a big difference between temporary movement disorders such as akathesia and dystonia which can be treated with a side effect pill and tardive dyskinesia and its variants. If you are concerned speak to your psychiatrist and have them do a movement disorders test which most psychiatrists do from time to time anyway. They could tell you for sure but there is a big difference between the two and what they look like but a psychiatrist would know for sure.
Avatar m tn I have taken Geodon, Haldol, Saphris, Risperdal, Seroquel, and Fanapt in just a year and a few months. Also just knowing that Fanapt can cause Tardive Dyskinesia scares me and would have me constantly paranoid if it is going to start. I wanna know if it is a good decision to take this drug until my numbness completely subsides and then stop it. I will bring all of this to the attention of my psychiatrist, but i just wanted to know what you think. Thank you.
Avatar f tn However, for myself (not something you have of course) in having schizoaffective disorder I needed an antipsychotic and all of them except for Clozaril (which causes blood dyscreias and needs constant bloodwork and can be dangerous and something I couldn't tolerate) can cause it. I think I would have not been able to recover if I hadn't taken an antipsychotic all these years though I wish they had caught up with the tardive in time before it progressed this far.
Avatar m tn t mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal. Risperdal seems to help with aggressive behavior and behavior problems in general and likely communication. with kids on the spectrum. It seems to help with irritability and aggressiveness. Because of this, some doctors may use it for adhd if that is how a person presents. Now with regards to tics. My son has tics. He has two types. Simple vocal tics which are a hum or throat clearing sound.
Avatar f tn They were used to treat schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders but newer antipsychotics such as Risperdal and Abilify have replaced them (and there are newer ones in development such as the glutamate antagonists that will not cause any form of movement disorders and promote a fuller recovery, one of which is glycine which I am under study for, read through my entries). Anti-anxiety agents such as Xanax do not cause any form of movement disorders.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
Avatar f tn They are trying to diagnose my mother for stroke - she's already in hospital. She was in a coma, came out lucid but unable t speak or eat. Because she is aggitated,, they needed to sedate her for the brain MRI, and gave her Haldon (halperidol) 0.25mg (they say) by injection. She became a zombie, glassy eyed and unable to even blink. 30h later she was perhaps showing very tiny improvements, moving arms/legs slowly, but head barely at all. .
Avatar m tn Hello! I receive a 100 mg injection of haldol decanoate on July 27th and I've been dealing with an uncomfortable side effect for the past two months. I get this staring problem where I fixate on small details around me and I can't look away. Like I'll stare at the taillights of the car in front of me or the specks of herbs in my food. And when I try to close my eyes, my eyelids flutter rapidly and I see flashes. And my eyelashes scratch my eyeballs.
1107999 tn?1269718949 So far I have been on lithium, depakote, wellbutrin, geodon, zyprexa, risperdal, and haldol. This is the best medication I have been on so far (last year I considered having a baby, so my doctor suggested perphenazine because it is "safer") because I have had terrible side effects with everything else. I will take your advice and keep listening; I am listening right now.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar n tn He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
