Requip side effects parkinson's

Common Questions and Answers about Requip side effects parkinson's

requip

487070 tn?1313665952 I hate the side effects but it seems to be working for the most part. I understand it is mainly used for Parkinson's diasease and sometimes RLS. Does anyone take this for their RLS? If so how much? Supossedly it helps increase Dopmine levels which PLMD and Parkinson disorders have in common.I'm not sure if RLS is caused by low Dopamine or not. I feel like YUCK. I have had a dry, horse throat all winter & I think it may be a side effect.
Avatar n tn Oh i still remember the RLS and it isnt a pleasant memory.
Avatar f tn He determined this to be rare side effects from Requip. Took me off straightaway. I hated that because it worked so well, but side effects were intolerable. This as of April 28th. Was started on Sinemet. Was told this does not work as well as Requip, but was less likely to have same side effects. Said he could add darvocet if necesary. Also take ativan 1mg 3 x daily since the brain surgery, and 1-2 at night for help with sleep. Every other sleep aid made above symptoms worse.
Avatar f tn It is a parkinsons med, but at the amount that is taken for RLS I have had no side effects at all. They take 36 a day for parkinson's and I have to take anywhere from 3-8 a day depending on how severe.
Avatar f tn RLS was the worst part for me. Your doctor might be able to offer some support for that. I take a generic parkinson's medication alled carbidopa ER that keeps it at bay. It has been used for a long time and has a good record of use. Dr. explained that taking up to 6 or so a day will not give the side effects that a parkinson's patient who takes 36 a day. There are other meds out there (all non addictive) you can try. If you have a doctor I would go that route.
Avatar n tn In my opinion, this is probably one of the worst side effects of SSRIs. After a taper off of these medications with the doctor's approval, you will see a marked improvement as the dosage goes down, in my experience. Sorry to be so ambiguous, but these medications effect people in different ways, but it does get much better:)....keep us posted!
Avatar f tn Surely the doctor who told you to go off the med cold turkey was not a neurologist. Going off these meds abruptly can cause neurological problems. I did it two years ago and still have issues from it. I too have been on both of these meds and have had similar issues. Have you been on Sinemet yet? Requip and Mirapex are dopamine agonists, but Sinemet is a dopamine replacement and is best reserved for when the agonists no longer work.
Avatar f tn s a psychiatric condition triggering extrapiramidal symptoms which they treat with Requip any ways. moreover it has many side-effects, if it's not really helping there is no reason to take it. the fact that the WBC would go up for no apparent reason could give a hint, it might something to do with hysterectomy! maybe some abnormal immune response. there are a lot of tests out there you just need to consult the right specialist and check different point of views.
Avatar f tn s patients take about 10 times a day, what I need so side effects are almost non existent. It is generic and called carbidopa LV. It really works..
230948 tn?1235844329 Patients should be informed about very rare cases of sudden onset of sleep without any prior warning or apparent daytime somnolence and of dizziness (including vertigo) and should be cautioned that their safety and that of others is at risk if this happens whilst driving or operating dangerous machinery.
Avatar f tn Have had following symptoms, increasing frequency since 11/05. Background:50F.5/05 Resection meningioma right parietal. 09/05 diagnosed Hashimotos Hypothyroid. Synthroid.137 TSH 1.87 FT4 1.40.10/07 neuro diagnosed RLS. Besides known rls symptoms had/have morning symptoms. Awakened early AM startled, stressed,wired/ tired, sense of dread, shaky, jumping out of skin, adrenaline rush. Difficult to describe, determined not panic attacks. Somewhat relieved getting up to move around.
Avatar m tn It's associated with kidney problems, pregnancy, and iron deficiency. And you don't have to be anemic to be low enough on iron to experience RLS. If you have restless legs, you should have your serum ferritin checked: This is a measure of body iron stores-not just your hemoglobin and hematocrit, which is what doctors test for when they suspect anemia. If it's below 30, supplement with iron for two months.
Avatar n tn Check out the side-effects of Lipitor. That particular statin has a lot of side-effects, some very serious. There is a website (not sure of the web address but you can Google it) called Stopped Our Statins. There is a lot of good information on there. I would look at the side-effects of the Lipitor before panicking that it might be something else. There are many new statins out there that don't cause so many side-effects. Hope this helps.
620048 tn?1358018235 Not sure if it was Requip, but I was amused -- kind of -- to hear compulsive gambling listed as one of the possible side effects of some medicine being advertised on the TV recently. I'm pretty sure it was something used to treat RLS. I told Nancy about it, and she wasn't sure I wasn't pulling her leg.
Avatar n tn A couple of years ago I was taking requip and after awhile I started having symptoms just like yours. After doing some research on this drug I found out that it can actually make your symptoms worse. My doctor put me on Ultram and it really helps with the RLS and my lower leg pain. Please talk to your doctor. These symptoms you are having are not right.
Avatar f tn i am taking requip for it and it is keeping it at bay. i am going for more tests for it looks like ms. does this sound more like parkinsons? and second is there such a thing as a brain air bubble.
Avatar m tn The problem could be due to a side effect from your medication. Side effects can be nervousness and anxiety, and that could cause a tremor. Or it could be the start of essential tremor usually is seen when you are using your hands, while the tremor associated with Parkinson's typically occurs when your hands are at rest. You may want to see a neurologist to rule that out. "Shaky hands due to anxiety, but to reach this diagnosis, a physician must first rule out physical causes.
649926 tn?1297657780 Shell, I read that long list they give you with your rx and it did list muscle/tendon pain as a possible side effect under the less often but can happen section. I never get the "normal" side effects so it probably is from the equip. I really do choose sleep - like you said everything declines without it but I am going to call the neuro tomorrow and let them know and see what they say.
Avatar f tn Before you go the pain pill route and risk getting addicted check out what my doctor gives me and see if you feel it might work. I take carbidopa /levo ER when my restless legs kick in and it has not failed me yet. I get it almost daily. It is a parkinson's med, but I only take 3-6 a day when it gets bad and those with parkinson's take 36 a day. So the warnings are for those larger amounts. The non generic name is sinemet cr.
Avatar n tn s and not of medication side effects. The two meds you mentioned are used to help reduce the tremors associated with Parkinson's, Essential tremor, and Dystonia. It would be advisable for you to seek a neurological evaluation. If you do not have a "Movement Disorders " facility near you, I can recommend the Johns Hopkins Movement Disorders clinic, Check out the website at www.neuro.jhmi.edu/DBS.
Avatar n tn Not a good idea at all with all of those medications almost anything could happen, including blackouts, fainting, etc.
Avatar f tn It's possible that you have a real medical issue with RLS and if that's the case Requip works great and it's not addictive! On the other hand if it does have something to do with w/d's then I would suggest eating bananas as they really do help. If the bananas don't work after a few days then I would go to your doctor and tell him what's going on with your legs and he will probably give you the Requip. I'm currently taking it and with no side effects at all.
Avatar m tn I think the tremor with PD occurs at rest and goes away when you do something and yours is different and could be essential tremor. The lack of coordination should be followed, and one side only could be PD. Does it come and go or it constant ? I assume the Liver tests were included for Wilson's Disease, it's rare but good to check it . I don't think PD shows up on MRI but it rules out other things, but a SPECT CT might help.
230948 tn?1235844329 I have heard the side effects to these drugs are not nice but can make a difference to your life, i just talked to another lady under the same consultant and she has been on this drug and she is struggling with the side effects but it has changed her life around and she has fibro. The drug she was on was called pramipexole but there are many but do the same thing mirapexin, ropinirole (requip) which is what you were on.
