Common Questions and Answers about Requip for neuropathy

requip

Avatar n tn Right hip replacement. I'm on requip, lyrica, cymbalta, celebrex, just starting actonel plus vitamins & calcium. thank you. I'm 76, female. I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
Avatar f tn ve had stomach problems (acid reflux and problems swallowing food) for the past year. My doctor tested for various autoimmune diseases because of all this and there was a positive test for one of them. I understand that there often are false positives for this test and my doctor did some other tests (xray of chest and spirometry both of which were fine) which he says rules it out.
539156 tn?1281818356 Hi Mary Kay. Welcome to the MS Forum. I have had Restless Leg Syndrome for over 15 years. I also have MS. I understand that as we age, RLS gets worse. It also tends to run in families. Doctor's are not really sure what causes RLS. I have used various medications over the years to help control it. Requip, Valium and now Klonopin. The Requip made me sick, the Valium did nothing, the Klonopin used to work great and now has not affect at all.
Avatar f tn our father who is 78 is starting to hallucinate he was hospitalized about a month ago for pneumonia.he was also taking requip for his restless legs, the doc. took him off of requip because of side affects 4 days ago. we dont know if that could be the cause of his condition or not,he also had a cat scan of the brain, it was normal.he sees people that are not there, he realizes later that it is not real. he is getting depressed and scared,we dont know what to do anymore.
Avatar f tn She is also taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia and Requip for wrestless legs. Both are conditions she has endured the past 10-15 years. Based on your recommendation I'm going to suggest a neurologist as the next step. But it would be good to know what gets you through the tough times. They have done every kind of scan I can think of with no evidence of cancer spread. They have done an EEG as well with clean results. Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated.
Avatar f tn My current sleep doctor feels that Sinemet, a dopamine replacement, should be reserved for use after dopamine agonists such as Requip and Mirapex are no longer useful. I can give you a few hints on optimizing the effectiveness of your Sinemet rather than keep raising dose: No protein to eat unless long enough before dose for the food to have already passed thru the small intestine. Small amout of starchy food food can help when taking med, but no large amounts of food before taking the med.
Avatar f tn and have been taking lyrica for over a year...for neuropathy and myelopathy and just recently diagnosed with FM... Thanks!
1257808 tn?1322762215 Oh, sorry to hear. Restless leg can be a bear to deal with and definitely disrupt sleep. Have you been to your doctor about it? There are different reasons why people have it. Sometimes it is an iron deficiency, believe it or not. Your doctor can test for that and you should only start iron supplements if they recommend it. You'd want to make sure your kidney's are functioning properly, and again, your doctor can test for that.
Avatar f tn For the past month I have been having strange RLS-type symptoms in my right leg AND arm. My leg has a constant 'electrical' feeling that tingles and I feel the urge to stretch and move. My arm however has been achy throughout and tingly in all my fingers and palm. These sensations change, the tingling goes from mild to severe, as well as the aches. But it never goes away completely. My left side is not affected at all. Could this be MS? A pinched nerve? Something else?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Requip for RLS, which I had so bad with my Tramadol withdrawal, I would rock and bounce for hours during both the day and night. I had RLS for at least 6 hours or more a day for almost a month. I took the Requip for the first 40 days, now I take it 2x a week. My doc said after I hit 2 months or more off the opiates, we can talk about me jumping off the Requip all together.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have been diagnosed with RLS and requip worked for you well until it was determined to be causing side effects, and you were switched to Sinemet. One known side effect of Requip is swelling in the legs; it sounds like you had an extensive evaluation for all the symptoms you began experiencing after January 2008. Sinemet works well for RLS symptoms, but has a higher risk of eventually causing what is called augmentation, or the occurrence of symptoms earlier in the day.
281019 tn?1235005497 She then tells me that she wants me to have an MRI to screen for MS. She then orders a EMG to check for neuropathy in my left leg. No neuropathy, MRI was normal. She then perscribed Maxalt & nortriptalean(?) for my massive migrains. Migrains that start with my eye hurting so bad that I can't move it. Followed by my face being extreamly sensitive, on the same side as the hurt eye. Sensitive like warm as an inferno & cold as ice. No touching what-so-ever. Even my hair folicals.
1591337 tn?1297101349 Well, this sounds alot like restless leg syndrome, and they have other meds for this like Requip, ask your MD about this and if your symptoms sound like you have this and you can start to sleep better! Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried Requip for Restless Legs while trying to detox off of Subutex or Suboxone? This is the worst part for me in trying to get off of Subutex & I am literally scared sh**less of them. I had them so bad that I almost over-dosed on Klonopin & Somas (from a family member) to rid myself of them. I am on less than 1 mg of Subutex a day now & having anxiety & diarrhea. That I can handle, but the RLS I can not. Any advice or experience would be great!
372680 tn?1228161610 I've been taking neurontin for "peripheral neuropathy" for a year now, but one of the side effects is "mild confusion" which basically makes me lose focus. I just saw my neurologist again and we're now trying Lyrica, typically prescribed for fibromyalgia. I've only been on it two days, with a much lower dosage (was taking 1200mg gabapentin/day versus 75mg Lyrica once at night!) and much much much better results (I only take one or two 300mg gapabentins a day).
Dog But as you know what might work great for one patient might not work great for another. But maybe worth a try.
Avatar f tn I've got severe RLS 24/7 and have been taking Requip for the past several years, Mirapex before that. It's gotten worse lately so the doctor had me go cold turkey 5 days ago. He gave me Klonopin to take at night, but it doesn't do anything other than make me even more tired. I managed to get 6 hours sleep on day 4, but that's it for the whole week. The doctor says that I can't go back on the dopamines (Requip) since they have started augmentation (making the RLS worse).
620048 tn?1358018235 My pulmomologist gave me ropinirole (Requip) because i have so much movement in my limbs, especially my feet, when I am sleeping and when I am awake too. I was looking up the drug and i found this side effect........ 'Some people using ropinirole have developed a gambling habit. It is not known whether ropinirole actually causes this effect. Talk with your doctor if you believe you have an unusual urge to gamble while you are taking ropinirole.
Avatar f tn It's possible that you have a real medical issue with RLS and if that's the case Requip works great and it's not addictive! On the other hand if it does have something to do with w/d's then I would suggest eating bananas as they really do help. If the bananas don't work after a few days then I would go to your doctor and tell him what's going on with your legs and he will probably give you the Requip. I'm currently taking it and with no side effects at all.
Avatar f tn Just gave 2 excedrine pm.. Does anyone know how much Requip needed?
Avatar n tn Has anybody had success with requip? If so, what dosage of requip worked for you? They have .25, .5, 1.0, and 2.0. Do you take the medicine at night only or during the day too? I really appreciate your help. I made it 14 days off hydros last year, but the RLS was agonizing and I gave in. I want to do EVERYTHING I can to help ease this upcoming hell.
