Rebif elevated liver enzymes

Common Questions and Answers about Rebif elevated liver enzymes

rebif

Avatar f tn I recall my neuro saying it took just a few days. Rebif if was my first DMD and it elevated my liver enzymes. I started and stopped it twice, and both times I stopped my shots, my liver enzymes returned to normal within a few days. I ceased treatment and immediately started Copaxone, no waiting period for the purpose of starting a different DMD.
382218 tn?1341181487 I had my bloodwork done on Tuesday and the results came back today. MS clinic nurse just called to tell me that my liver enzymes came down a LOT since the last test. AST is within normal range and ALT is just above normal. She will consult with my neuro on the results and for now says to stay at 22mcg Rebif. I asked what might account for such high levels initially, then for it to drop so fast. She said could be Tylenol, or alchohol use (I used neither during that period).
Avatar n tn I think that adverse events associated with Rebif, most notably elevated liver enzymes, flu-like syptoms, depression - occur only when one is currenly taking the drug. I've heard of no long term complications, and it's reassuring that this drug has been around since 1996 with an well established safety record.
Avatar f tn I was unable to continue on Rebif past the first month or so as it did cause an elevation in my liver enzymes. I had them tested immediately prior to starting Rebif, then two weeks after commencing treatment. They were high, so at that point my neuro instructed me to go off all meds and supplements, and no alcohol, stayed on Rebif and they remained high when test was repeated.
1196859 tn?1266134938 I tried Rebif but had to discontinue after a couple of months due to persistent elevated liver enzymes. I only made it as high as the half dose. I had no other side effects, no injection site pain. I switched to Copaxone and have been on it for the past 18 months or so. The first several weeks the shots were pretty painful, the stinging and burning lasted a long time and the big red dollar size welts were pretty bad.
Avatar f tn After 8 weeks I had to discontinue as my liver enzymes were very elevated on it. They returned to normal when I went off the drug. I only ever got up to the half-dose (22mcg) and wasnt on it long enough for it to do me any good. This liver reaction is apparently not that common, maybe 3% of pts according to the Serono's literature, and doesn't bother the majority of patients who take Rebif.
Avatar n tn Elevated Liver Enzymes can be the result of damaging liver disease, acute or prolonged use of medications or alcohol, or harmful exposure to a wide variety of environmental toxins (many of which you are probably exposed to every day). Livergenex is your safe, natural choice for lowering elevated liver enzymes and putting you on the path to a healthier more energetic life. Elevated liver enzymes indicate inflammation or damage to cells in your liver.
1508160 tn?1289920302 Was just informed earlier today by my Neurologist that my liver enzymes were up to 186 from 72. This result in just 30 days from last blood test...yikes!! He is now having me switch from Rebif to Copaxone after only two months. The only side effect I had on Rebif was red spots at the injection site. Wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and what side effects, if any Copaxone has compared to Rebif therapy. Thanks in advance for any responses.
9264354 tn?1408743148 I had a brief trial run on Rebif but had to discontinue as it elevated my liver enzymes too much. I never made it up to the full dose which may explain why I never experienced flu like symptoms. The shot itself was painless with no site reaction. I switched to Copaxone and was on it for six years. The shot itself hurt quite a lot at the beginning but over time this diminished significantly. The site reactions were bad at first: large, quarter sized welts and lumps.
Avatar n tn Are the following liver enzyme numbers considered slightly elevated or very elevated?
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, Just talked to my Dr. and he said my Liver enzymes are elevated again but not as high.I'm hoping someone can explain this to me.The last test was by my Rheumatologist and she took me off of Methotrexate and now 4 months later it comes back AST-51H ALT-83H and also TOTAL CHOLESTEROL 245H,LDL 132H,HDL 101, TRIG.60 so what does all this mean?I'm also having alot of muscle pain for the last 2 months.
Avatar n tn I know this because my sister to is over weight and suffers from elevated liver enzymes. She went on a strict diet and it helped her condition and to loose weight. Her liver enzymes at times were very high (over 300). She was later diagnosed with insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn But it must be emphasized that higher-than-normal levels of these liver enzymes should not be automatically equated with liver disease. They may mean liver problems or they may not. The interpretation of elevated AST and ALT levels depends upon the whole clinical picture and so it is best done by doctors experienced in evaluating liver disease. The precise levels of these enzymes do not correlate well with the extent of liver damage or the prognosis (outlook).
Avatar n tn Ok.. elevated live enzymes can mean many different things. Most of the time, it means something is wrong with your liver. It can be caused by alcohol, if you drink too much. It can be caused by medicines, but your doctor should know what meds you're on. And also can be cause by Hepatitis, viral or autoimmune. Keep in mind that when you break "Hepatitis" down to it's root words, it means inflammation (itis) of the liver (hepat).
Avatar n tn After losing about 25 pounds and trying to live a more healthy lifestyle a routine blood test showed elevated enzymes and 4 weeks later elevated more to 4 times the normal ranges. When my family doctor discusses this with me he refers to my condition as "having the Hepatitis C antibody". I had a blood transfusion in 1970 following childbirth. Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Elevated liver enzymes as a result of statin use does not necessarily mean there is liver damage. Stopping the drug frequently results in normalization of liver enzymes. And occasionally changing to a different statin solves the problem of elevated liver enzymes while maintaining an improved cholesterol level.
Avatar f tn What happened regarding your elevated liver enzymes? Curious because I have MS and recently liver enzymes were very elevated Thank you.
1734735 tn?1413778071 When my liver enzymes elevated due to being on Rebif, my neuro had me stop everything including the Rebif, all supplements, OTC pain killers, and alcohol. My liver enzymes returned to normal, the I started Rebif and only Rebif, and they shot up again. That was how we were sure it was the Rebif and nothing else. I'm surprised your doc didn't have you stop all supplements and all alcohol in order to rule out all possible culprits. Something to consider.
Avatar n tn my girlfriend had some blood work done and discovered her liver enzymes to be over 3 million. could you please tell me what that means? what is going to happen next for her? please answer as soon as possible.
382218 tn?1341181487 Well, I heard my presence requested and will add what I can. I do not know a lot about this topic, but know a little about drug reactions in general. DB1 - I suspect that you are one of the people whose liver is not reacting well. You did say that you have had elevated LFT's (Liver Fuction Tests) in the past? If you have a touchy liver, it's likely that the Rebif is setting it off. They do check LTF's for a reason on everybody taking an Interferon.
Avatar n tn non smoker male had a routine physical w/ lab work. All lab good except liver enzymes elevated. Lab repeated 1 month later enzymes same as month before, hepaptitis and other liver disease ruled out.. Ultrasound done, and that was fine. Was told over phone to follow up with a GI Dr. Why would I need to do that?
