Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed Pulmicort Respules and gave me a Neilmed irrigator to apply the dose. Do I fill the Neilmed with water and pour the respule in the water and mix, and then apply? Or do I just put one respule in the irrigator and irrigate without diluting? There are no directions...I'm guessing that I dilute the solution but does that impact efficacy?
Avatar m tn The first was to remove polyps and a deviated septum, the second was revision surgery to remove scar tissue and to drill windows in for drainage, the third was to remove a frontal sinus infection, and the fourth was to reduce the turbinate on the right side. I have continually recurring bouts of thickened mucous and inflammation that ends up in repeated infections. I also had repeated bronchitis and have now been diagnosed with adult onset asthma.
497572 tn?1209812815 I've had sinus surgery 4 times for removal of nasal polyps. Over the years, I have been treated with kenalog for sinus infections. Will kenalog treatments keep my polyps in check? Surgery as a bandaid fix is getting expensive and it doesn't fix the problem This discussion is related to Kenalog frequency.
Avatar n tn There are no studies supporting natural ways of curing nasal polyps, but there are non-surgical methods to treat nasal polyps. They are oral or topical steroids, intrepidly steroid injections, leukotreine inhibitors etc. Consult your ENT specialist for further assistance. Best.
Avatar f tn Hi, Omnaris (ciclesonide) is a steroid used in treating the inflammation, congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny or stuffy nose that occur due to sinus infections or nasal polyps. Nasal polyps are treated by inhalational or oral steroids or with surgery( open or endoscopic). Although inhalational steroids cause fewer side effects than oral steroids, long-term use can lead to nasal bleeding or perforation of the septum and an increased risk of glaucoma.

Avatar m tn Nasal polyps can usually be managed by the use of an inhaled nasal steroid. However, if the polyps are large and causing significant obstruction to nasal airflow, that would prevent contact of the steroid with the surface of the polyps, inhalation therapy alone may not suffice. In such circumstances, surgical removal may be necessary, followed by nasal steroid inhalation to prevent recurrence.
657020 tn?1238037518 I have been diagnosed with nasal polyps and will be having surgery to correct the problem. I was just hoping to get some kind of advice on the matter. For example, do they put you under during the surgery? I understand it is done on an outpatient basis but can you return to work the next day? Is it terribly painful afterwards? How long does surgery take? And really anything else you can think of to mention. Please do not copy and paste from some website.
Avatar n tn Have you been checked for nasal polyps? I myself have had problems with a badly running nose for years. I recently discovered I have polyps (although I'm not sure which caused which.) Something may be blocking the normal discharge of nasal mucus via the throat.
Avatar n tn Are there other signs r symptoms present? Medications are the most common treatment for small nasal polyps. If you have one or more small polyps, your doctor is likely to prescribe a corticosteroid nasal spray which may relieve inflammation, increase nasal airflow and may help shrink polyps. For larger growths, surgery may be indicated. Polyps have a tendency to recur. It would be best to have it evaluated by a specialist (ENT) for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Nasal polyps (NPs) represent a common clinical end point for a number of inflammatory disease processes involving the paranasal sinuses. Chronic rhinosinusitis is the most common cause for NPs, but not all NPs are created equally. The presence of a nasal polyp may offer the best clue as to what is happening in your nose and sinuses. Such polyps are often associated with the production of excessive mucous that leads to throat clearing.
Avatar n tn I am 29 and have asthma. I had surgery six weeks ago for the removal of my polyps. I was told they are already growing back. I have taken every medication possible (steroids, antibot's and sprays). Is there anything else I can possibly try? I am so upset about this. I have lost two jobs and have no hope of ever feeling better. Nothing seems to work. I have chronic sinus infections constantly and horrible headaches that never go away. Please help!
Avatar m tn This sounds a lot like what I had. After a CT of the head they found that I had many, many nasal polyps. There were so many I couldn't breathe and my nose ran all the time (or was stopped up). When I laid on my side the water which couldn't escape because the polyps blocked the exit) just stayed in and blocked my breathing. I had never heard of polyps, but my dentist noticed them on x-ray of my teeth and explained that I needed to have them removed.
Avatar f tn Hello, What you are having can be due to sinus congestion especially chronic sinusitis. It can be due to allergic nasal polyps or tumors, allergic reactions, deviated nasal septum, trauma to the face, respiratory tract infections, allergies such as hay fever, immune system cells or cystic fibrosis. It is important to find out the cause of chronic sinusitis as then specific treatment can be started. Treatment varies from saline and steroid nasal sprays to decongestants and antibiotics.
Avatar n tn The 2 most common causes in adolescents and adults are deviation of the nasal septum and nasal polyps, the latter often associated with chronic allergic inflammation of the nose. A deviated nasal septum can be corrected with surgery. Nasal polyps were, in the past, often treated surgically but at this time treatment with an inhaled nasal steroid, such as FlonaseĀ® (fluticasone), can effectively shrink the nasal polyps. You should make arrangements to be seen by an ENT specialist.
Avatar f tn He said that he must have gotten some sort of virus and it triggered his asthma. He told me to continue his Singulair, Pulmicort Respules one time a day, Xopenex in the nebulizer every four hours, and he prescribed Prednisone two times per day (dr. said to start the steroid only if the cough does not slow down). So on Wednesday morning, my son woke up at 6:30am coughing non-stop....coughing so much that he vomited!
Avatar m tn Second, an attempt should be made to shrink your polyps by the regular use of a prescription nasal steroid spray. This is difficult if not impossible in the circumstance where a nostril is completely blocked and airflow minimal to zero. It can be accomplished, however, with patience and persistence.
Avatar n tn If it has been 2 months already, I recommend that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation and to rule out presence of polyps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn For several decades now, at least since middle school, my nose has had the appearance of having a nasal hump. This was a change from the way it had been when I was very young. Until recently, I'd just thought that was how my nose was. Then, I started applying castor oil topically twice a day, beginning a few months ago. I've been using castor oil topically for another place on my skin, to diminish a scar as I've read it can help eliminate growths.
Avatar f tn We have the two things you write about in common. Blisters on feet and a husband with nasal polyps. My husband being too darn typical went for years without seeking medical attention for his ever growing breathing troubles. We moved to a "high allergy town" 9 years ago. He never had lived in a place like this before so I believe the area set him in this spiral. He was rushed to the ER after 6 years in this town for the inability to breath.
1458533 tn?1285685681 The symptoms you mentioned can be because of the sino-nasal polyposis. Nasal obstruction - because of polyps by itself, headache is secondary to blockage of the sinuses and dizziness would have been as a result of increased mouth breathing causing respiratory alkalosis.
Avatar n tn thanks for the reply doctornee, i had an appointment with a ent specialist for a different symptom but i was prescribed a nasal spray for nasal polyps (this sensation seems to have started with the medication) i'll try out that valsalva maneuver!
