psychotic

12268405 tn?1427853361 t freaked out about my hallucinations, and they were pretty scary sometimes. I heard voices for a long time. I have bipolar disorder. I did take short term antipsychotics at first, when I was simply diagnosed as depressed with psychotic episodes. Low dose and only for a few months, which were started and removed at the discretion of my psychiatrist, depending on how I was doing. I think the key word in your description is convincing yourself that you are being covered with fleas.
Avatar f tn It could also take some time to find the medication which is right for her because not every medication works the same and as effectively for every single person but chances are that one of them will work for her eventually. It could be bipolar disorder with psychotic features like ILADVOCATE said or some psychotic disorder since 120 conditions can have psychosis as a symptom.
Avatar f tn com/health/bipolar-disorder/bipolar-hallucinations Schizophrenia follows a pattern different than bipolar. Are you trying to decide which is going on for your son or does he already have a bipolar diagnosis?
1564087 tn?1308947518 d have to find out the specifics of your diagnosis as hallucinations can occur in bipolar with psychotic features (and schizoaffective disorder such as I have) and there are many subtypes of bipolar and hallucinations and psychosis can occur in some. If you have concerns about the side effects of Seroquel it would be essential to speak to your psychiatrist and discuss what other medication might not be unsafe to take as regards heart disease.
202665 tn?1248806733 I think it's more the other symptoms involved that determine if it's one or the other, so no, I don't think it's possible. It doesn't seem like schizophrenia has the highs and lows of bipolar disorder, and I've seen someone with schizophrenia, and compared to me when I have my hallucinations (bipolar type 1), it's a complete difference in level of function. Now, is it possible to have bipolar disorder and develop/have schizophrenia?
1256303 tn?1291752568 My second question is how do I (and of course, my psychiatrist) differentiate between whether I am bipolar with psychotic features or schizo-affective? I definitely have the cycles of mania and depression, starting about three years ago, would have auditory and visual hallucinations when severely depressed. Recently with this batch of mania, I have begun to have the auditory hallucinations too, as well as visual. I also am having some problems with disorganized thoughts and speech and delusions.
Avatar n tn Depression with psychotic features is when a person has psychotic thoughts only during mood fluctuations. With schizoaffective disorder psychotic thoughts or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) can occur at any time. But as to how to look at it I'd say look at it as I do, I am a person with a psychiatric disability and I need treatment as part of my recovery. See it as a positive step up in life and keep going from there.
Avatar m tn re evidently struggling with a lot of psychotic symptoms (delusions and hallucinations), dissociative symptoms (depersonalization and derealization) and anxiety issues on top of your mood problems. You are also reporting some things characteristic of hypomania/mania which, if it IS hypomania/mania would definitively rule out depression. I think you definitely need to see a psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I used to have audio hallucinations a long time ago before I was stabilized but all of a sudden I am starting to hear voices. I am not schizophrenic or psychotic (yet). I have Bipolar Disorder and have been going thru a lot of stress lately. My theraist siad it was just a symptom at this point and it is probably caused by stress. She told me to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse to tell my mental health care provider... I have an appointment with her on Sept 7th.
Avatar f tn Is it possible for hallucinations/psychotic experiences to be like a horror film playing in your mind that you can't control? For example, yesterday, I had this mental "movie" of the grim reaper standing behind me with a wire, about to strangle me or slit my throat. Deep down I knew it wasn't real but it felt real, like a dream while I was awake, as if I could somehow sense that he was behind me ready to do something. I was totally afraid of what was going to happen.
1351968 tn?1278205300 While some people with bipolar disorder will experience a disconect from reality (hallucinations, delusions, paranoia) it's different from schizophrenia. Schizophrenics will often have the same disconects, but there is more to the disorder (word salad, catatonia, social isolation, social dysfunction, and impairments in the way the person thinks and speaks).
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.
Avatar m tn ve been experiencing visual hallucinations -- vivid, lifelike images that scare the he** out of me. This tends to happen in the evening or nighttime when I happen to awaken. I'll notice a person in my room, just standing there and staring at me. I kind of notice it out of the corner of my eye. Then, I stare right at the image...and it immediately vanishes. Needless to say, I've been freaking out and am afraid this is going to keep happening.
Avatar f tn He has c/o forgetfulness, h/a, and had a severe manic episode with auditory hallucinations and paranoia. Could all this be related to his cyst? No family history of bipolar disorder. Also, what would treatment be? Surgery? Expected recovery time? What are chances mania will recurr?
Avatar n tn Some sufferers of bipolar disorder may also suffer some psychotic features such as hallucinations or delusions that can be either mood-congruent or non-mood-congruent. However it is a lot more common for sufferers of bipolar disorder to have a delusional belief system rather than hallucinations.
Avatar n tn Sufferers will also experience isolation, anxiety, and in your particular case...vivid hallucinations, nightmares, and psychotic episodes. Perhaps you should talk with your healthcare provider and try an anti hallucenogenic (sp?) to help curb your visions. I really hope you are doing better, as I am seeing this post in late June. I wish you recovery and peace in your mind and heart...
Avatar f tn With bipolar with psychotic features, during a period of moodswings (mania, depression) a person has auditory hallucinations (hears voices) or visual hallucations or has delusions (perceives things that are not in reality). With schizoaffective disorder, a person can have hallucinations or delusions even when the mood is euthymic (normal).
1965148 tn?1354978634 can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.
1241622 tn?1268338549 Best to explain anything that affects your life, relating to people and understanding things. You don't neccessary have to list things. They may have a list of questions that they would ask or see what they would ask by how you answer questions. That's what doctors as a whole generally do. As regarding auditory hallucinations I experienced them before my current recovery and they being that my psych.
720657 tn?1233011567 To diagnose schizoaffective disorder, a person needs to have primary symptoms of schizophrenia (such as delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized behavior) along with a period of time when he or she also has symptoms of major depression or a manic episode.
603015 tn?1329862973 It sounds like the paranoia I experienced before I recovered from schizoaffective disorder. If a person has psychotic thoughts or delusions all the time then they would be diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder (schizophrenia with a mood disorder) as I have but if these thoughts only occur during moodswings then it would be bipolar with psychotic features. This much I learned from a researcher in mood disorders. However, only a psychiatrist could diagnose you.
Avatar f tn which is a form of schizophrenia but with mood disorder. There wasn’t a specific forum for that so I chose schizophrenia. Anyway, I’ve taken several different types of medications. Before I took medications I did not have sleeping disorders, I did not have back pain, my memory was not crappy, and I did not have an iron deficiency. But after taking several different medications since I was 15(I am now 20)... I have those issues that I previously stated.
