5mg of Paxil to 20mg of Prozac and it was really like there were no side effects with this change-over. I had a day or 2 of dizziness, but I got the flu 2 days after the switch, so... who knows, could have been flu dizzy or Paxil/Prozac dizzy... but it's gone now. Could it have been that easy a switch over for me?
Yea, Paxil is a bad one for weight gain. Fair warning... If any doctor tries to put you on Remeron and weight is a concern for you then SAY NO WAY.
I have been on both at differnt times in the past. You want to talk about weight gain? OMG! Remeron makes Paxil look like a diet pill! Taking Remeron is like wanting to be fat.
A question to anyone out there that's taken Prozac and gained weight have they changed to a different medication because of it and which one? Did it do the job it needs to without the weight gain of Prozac?
Doc prescribed Aropax CR 25 (paxil) he said there was no need to wean off the cilift - weight steadily increased - Doc said impossible!!!?? I asked to change to Prozac (Nuzak - south africa) Again he said I could go straight from the one to the other! Been on Nuzak for about 10 days and not feeling nice. Very emotional - dizzy - nightmares and un-necessary anger. My question - do I stick it out on the Nuzak (for the weight issues) or go back to Paxil or in fact back to Cilift?
I also was on citolapram but my doctor pulled me off it when he saw alot of mood change and weight gain. But then I was on both effexor and citolapram, highest doses each. This could of had some effect. I have been off both 8 months and the withdrawls are alful. I asked my doctor about it and he told me it was the effexor. I hope whatever you do works for you but myself I want little much more to do with any antidepressant do to the effects they have had on me and family members.
Paxil seems to be stronger than other ssris, possibly because of its larger effect on choline receptors, which accounts for some its difficulties. Prozac, of the ssris, has the least weight gain and is easiest to quit. Paxil seems to work better for anxiety, but there are other ones you can try as well if you don't want to do Paxil. And nobody can tell you which will work for you -- it's just too individual.
I am three weeks into the process of changing meds from Lexapro to Prozac. I went from 20mg of Lexapro to zero, as of yesterday. I have been on this dosage for 4 years. I began Prozac two weeks ago.
My question is this....If Lexapro is now at zero, and my Prozac (20mg) has not taken effect, yet, am I completely defenseless at this point regarding panic/anxiety? I do take Ativan when I have my back against the wall, but I don't want to take too much of that stuff.
If you're on an antidepressant, I assume you suffer depression and/or anxiety, and now you're taking speed to lose weight? Taking speed to lose weight isn't healthy for anyone, but you've already got mental problems, why would you ever consider this? Lose weight the right way -- change your diet and exercise more and lose it slowly so it stays off.
No dose seemed to fit for me. But, I lost the weight I was needing to lose (20 lbs) and if I go off Vyvanse, will it come back on with a vengance? I have heard hunger just is out of control when stopping this drug. So I am afraid to stay on it and I am afraid to go off it.
EtteBette is right ~ trust your doctor, give the prozac a chance, it may take time for it to begin working. Not all ssri's (one type of antidepressant/family that includes paxil, prozac, zoloft, effexor, etc.) make you in to a zombie.
Prozac is not a new medication. I know several people that are on it for years now with very good results! Just know that it may take 3-6 weeks to see an effect, and maybe even an increase in the dosage. Many people take 20 m.g.
Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished. Also stopped gaining weight but cannot lose the pounds I gained during Effexor. After 3 weeks with Prozac I feel very tired all day, even after sleeping 15 hours or more. And depression came back and hit me. I don´t know what to do.
If your concern is only the weight change factor just keep an eye on your weight and if you start to notice you that your gaining or losing call your doctor. The weight is one of the less serious side effects. But do your research on the Paxil and the dosage. Or nothing may happen at all the side effects vary from person to person. You may not have any side effects.
