Have you has a 24 hour urine test done? This really measures the level of protein in your urine and would really help the doctor to determine if you need to follow up in any way. Hi, When was the first time that you were diagnosed with diabetes? Are you taking any medications for the diabetes? Proteinuria may need further assessment. Were casts present in the urine? Are there RBC's in the urine significant enough for a hematuria ( >5 /hpf)? You may need blood tests to determine serum creatinine and BUN levels. Your glomerular filtration rate has to be ascertained. Discuss this with your physician and keep us posted regarding his advice.

However, rereading your post I am unsure if you are mixing the tests urine protein against urine keytones? Keytones present in the urine means your body is expelling excess sugar via your urinary tract. Are you diabetic or being considered a diabetic? Best to call your doctors office for an explanation.

You're blood pressure would be up if you had pre eclampsia. That's what pre-eclampsia is high blood pressure. There are many reasons you could have protein in your urine. It's a problem if it's there in high amounts several times. If you have sex before your sample (even the night before) it can cause protein to show in your urine.

I had high BP and had to do a 24 hour urine test and came back with protein in my urine. As long as the protein is not accompanied by high BP or swelling, you're good. :) I'm actually being induced on the 14th at 37 weeks because of Pre E. I had high protein 2 weeks ago. Tested again this week and it was normal. Most women test high at some point in pregnancy, doesn't mean anything unless you get more than one in a row. I hadn't eaten much 2 weeks ago, that was probably the reason it was high for me. Dehydration can be another reason. Odds are you have nothing to worry about, just take it as it comes. Don't worry about it unless/until the doctor says there's a problem. I'm not a doctor but he's probably testing you for postural proteinuria as opposed to persistent proteinuria. From what I've read apparently it's possible to have protein in your urine while standing up and none while you're lying down. It's supposed to be fairly common for young people to have and they normally outgrow it.

Protein in urine is a sign of infection. Did your doctor give you medication? They should have.

My son is 19 years old and for the last 5 years my son has had to get a physical so he can play football. Every year like clock work there was protein and some blood in his urine.
