I feel lost and depressed and terrified that I have done permanent damage with propecia. I went to a urologist and almost broke down in his office. He made me want to scream because he said everything looked ok and my testosterone levels (to him) were normal.
I am wondering if testosterone supplements will be the answer for me. Have you figured out anything else about your problem?
We have good testosterone as well as bad. Drugs such at rogaine and propecia can help with this, but i personally did not do well on propecia. It did weird things to me.
Propecia is a brand name but it is actually Finasteride.
Finasteride (Proscar) is used alone or in combination with another medication (doxazosin [Cardura]) to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH, enlargement of the prostate gland).
Is Rogaine a prescription treatment? If it is you should discuss with the doctor prescribing - any doctor writing a prescription must know all your health issues and other medication.
If not a prescription I'd suggest (same really for a prescription) to look at the side effect listed and available on the "web". If any mention of heart disease is made I'd suggest you either stop using the treatment or discuss further with your doctor.
Help. My wife accidentally took propecia (3 mgs over 2 days) thinking it was something else. We are planning on having kids soon. Can there be consequences to a future pregnancy from this mistake? How long will the propecia stay in her body?
m on propecia...however, my doctor (being pretty cool), prescribed me 5mg Finasteride (i.e. Propecia). I split the pills in half, which is pretty close to the dosage for Propecia. The bottle lasts me two months, and costs me $5 because finasteride is covered on my insurance. I'm 28 years old, soooo....the insurance company DID need my doctor to verify the prescription. But like I said, he is cool :) See if your doc will hook you up the same!

About three months ago I started taking propecia because I thought my hair was falling out too young. I experienced several side effects from the drug including total loss of sex drive, difficulty maintaining erections, loss of spontaneous erections/morning erections. I stopped taking propecia within 3 weeks due to an inability to deal with these side effects. Things seemed to be slowly getting slightly better as the weeks and months progressed however now some new issues have been arising.
I am an 18 year old female with thinning hair. I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp.
Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem. I went to my doctor and he gave me a prescription for Viagra, 50 mg. My question is this: Is it safe to occasionally take Viagra if I also take L-Arginine?
Sure you can use rogaine. The only problem with it is you only get the benefits while using it. If you quit you lose the benefits.
Just out of curiousity why did you post this on a men's health site?
Another note though? The gene for hair loss is on the x chromosome so unless your mom and dad both have hair loss, or unless your undergoing chemotherapy you should visit a doctor ASAP!
I have been taking Propecia since 2.5 years at variable doses(0.25 first 6months, 0.5 mg for one year and 1 mg for 1 year till today), In october 2016 my derm put me on accutane 10 mg and minoxiline(100mg) for treating my mild acne, I had been drinking heavily for 5 days before starting my accutane course, 10 days into the course, I started to have Gyno(Unilateral, right breast with a movable tender lump), I dropped accutane and minoxiline and also propecia after 23 days.
