603543 tn?1255294450 Good Afternoon, It is worth noting that Wyeth Pharmaceuticals currently has a patent for Effexor XR. While there is a generic extended release version of venlafaxine available, it is not exactly the same as the brand name (Because of the patent). The headaches you are experiencing may be caused by some of the inert ingredients in the generic brand. Knowing this, I would take the samples back to your Dr. and continue using the brand name since you already know it works for you.
Avatar n tn I've been on Finasteride (generic Propecia) for about 18 months. I have no problems with erections or ejaculation, however I don't really care to have sex. I'm 35 and just received a testosterone test with my levels coming in at a 269 (normal is @350). Perhaps I should stop taking it now...
1801781 tn?1461629469 I am having to switch to the generic version of Lexapro as it is now available. Insurance wants the change and I am OK with it as the cost will be less. My question is has anyone been on it and can they tell a difference??

"Patent settlements do not extend the patent. In fact, historical data shows that the average length of market exclusivity for innovator medicines has decreased. The Supreme Court has provided the Actavis framework for the FTC to review these settlements on a case-by-case basis.

Avatar f tn it is a wrong name for drugs just to make more money for the first drug maker who did the drug generic is the same drug made from another drug maker, this is why the name generic is very wrong, generic sounds like the drug is different but only drug maker is different.
Avatar m tn Patents are for seventeen years, and in some cases may be extended. Foradil is manufactured by Shering-Plough and the patent expires March 2019. No "generic" Foradil may be manufactured in the United States until after that date. It is an expensive drug, but highly effective. Although not approved for the purpose, it acts rapidly and well in an emergency.
Avatar m tn A U.S. federal court has invalidated the U.S. patent on Bristol-Myers Squibb Co's Baraclude treatment for hepatitis B after a challenge from generic drugmaker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, Bristol-Myers said on Tuesday. "We are disappointed with the court's decision and believe it is incorrect," Bristol-Myers spokeswoman Laura Hortas said. She said the company is considering whether to appeal the ruling by the U.S. District Court in Delaware.
Avatar m tn I recently read that Interferon may not have a Generic even after patent expiring, due to companies not wanting to invest the large amounts of money it takes to manufacture injected or infused medication. As much as I dislike the rules and limitations of the insurance companies, I do this for a living as an Insurance Broker. With all of us in the U.S.
Avatar m tn When a patent for a brand name drug expires, pharmaceutical company can make a generic form of the drug. Effexor patent expired in 2006, since then several generics are available. Those generics are usually cheaper but they must contain the same active ingredient(s), the same dosage form, at the same dose or concentration, and for the same route of administration. The generics are usually cheaper and can use different inactive ingredients and preservatives which can sometimes cause trouble.
Avatar n tn Protecting the brand has advantages over generic regarding consistency of levels. the generic is levothyroxine". Huh? What on earth does that answer mean? "Protecting"? "consistency of levels?" It sounds like he's saying that the Synthroid is preferable to the generic (but the same as Levoxyl)? Yes? If so, why would a brand name be better than a generic?
309783 tn?1271958229 Viepax is simply a new generic version of Effexor XR (Extended Release) The active ingredient is Venlafaxine. (Same as in Effexor XR) The patent on Effexor XR ran out about 8 months ago and now other pharm companies can make generic extended release Effexor. In the last 7 years Effexor XR has made Weith Pharm company 3.5 Billion dollars per year. That Billion not Million. 704043 tn?1298056844 Unfortunately for all of us on Copaxone, the patent does not expire until 2014. Teva Pharmaceuticals has exclusive rights until then at least. There is always other ways for them to get this patent extended, protecting their profits in Copaxone sales. Google generic copaxone if you want to learn more!

Patent rights are a method to help the orginal maker recover research and develpment costs. Thanks for your question. Take care.

Avatar n tn You also need to check if Generic Effexor XR is avalible in your area of the world. I heard that the patent was up and this means that it should be avalible in a generic formula that is the same as Effexor XR. If not then you doctor should have no problem writing you a script for the name brand Effexor XR. Just call him and say "hello doc, thatks for the generic Venlafaxine, but I prefer name brand Effexor XR." He should have no problem with this at all.

Avatar f tn court has struck Baraclude from the patent list. The Bristol-Myers Squibb ($BMY) hepatitis B drug saw its composition of matter patent invalidated in a court fight with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries ($TEVA), which wants to sell its own version. 1796524 tn?1315586487 Watch out for "CR", "XR" and "SR" versions of meds. As far as I know, only Wellbutrin "CR" and Effexor "XR" are superior than the originals. I was taking 6mg's of Klonopin/day for many years before swiching to Xanax, also 6mg's/day. I suffer severe anxiety, and although the K-pins were O.K., they took too long to work and didn't stop panic attacks.
Avatar f tn You have Teva and Novartis with a few patent MS medicines buying up smaller generic drug companies all over the world. Both trying to get the next generic to market. Even fighting each other in the courts. It is amazing how much they spend in litigation and in fines. They break patents and just pay the fines. Then you have Biogen working on the latest in MS drugs along with developing other drugs. Copaxone was supposed to be an oral but failed because it broke down in digestion.
Avatar m tn t know what to do.. should I try Monday Wednesday Friday propecia? I heard there is a 5mg propecia pill you can take once a week.. can that keep my ED at bay maybe?
