Common Questions and Answers about Propecia and hair

propecia

Avatar m tn I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.
Avatar n tn Since telogen effluvium is reversible and self-limiting, I think you should hold off on the Propecia for 3 months and see what happens. If the hair is falling out a lot less, then I would continue to wait for the hair to re-grow from its telogen loss. You don't really have anything to lose--male-pattern hair loss wouldn't leave you substantially balder in 3 months anyway, and you can always reconsider the use of Propecia then. Take care. Dr.
Avatar f tn Finasteride is an underestimated and dangerous pill for hair loss. Its hard to stop it and not experience libido issues. You are lucky enough that you took it for so little time. There are other people taking it for years facing serious hormonal side effects. It will probably take as long as you took the tablets to feel like before. So a couple of months is a good projection as this pill changes hormonal balance in your blood and gene expression about androgen receptors.
Avatar n tn He has lots of hair now and he does not lose any more hair. However, news is floting around saying that the sexual side effect comes from propecia is sometime not reversible. Asyesterday,he stopped his medicine. I am really worried if it has done any damage to him or not. He has never been in any relationship, so he really can not tell if it has done anything to him. please read more on any medicine you take.
Avatar n tn I know going bald is hereditary, but the fact is that it starts when -the body is producing to much testosterone that is being converted into DHT -Or some other type of imbalance is causing excess DHT DHT causes hair loss I am in the exact same boat as you guys except no propecia for my hair loss I also have gynecomastia and I am awaiting my hormone test to see if there is an underlying cause.
Avatar m tn 5 mg for one year and 1 mg for 1 year till today), In october 2016 my derm put me on accutane 10 mg and minoxiline(100mg) for treating my mild acne, I had been drinking heavily for 5 days before starting my accutane course, 10 days into the course, I started to have Gyno(Unilateral, right breast with a movable tender lump), I dropped accutane and minoxiline and also propecia after 23 days. It has been a month now but my Gyno hasnt reduced, I restarted propecia as I was starting to lose hair.
Avatar m tn I went to a dermatologist and she put me on propecia for the hair loss. I also took a blood test and said my iron was low. But other then that I my blood was normal. Is it possible they ran certain tests on my blood and not others which maybe why I am misdiagnosed. I have a follow up in late july. I didnt have this burning sensation before i went to see my doc. And my burning scalp is not a symptom of propecia. Any ideas to what this could be? A disease?
5708852 tn?1372804931 Hi everyone! Ok so sorry if I go in to depth in my question and sound a little rude! So i'm only 19 but I'm struggling here! Avatar n tn About three months ago I started taking propecia because I thought my hair was falling out too young. I experienced several side effects from the drug including total loss of sex drive, difficulty maintaining erections, loss of spontaneous erections/morning erections. I stopped taking propecia within 3 weeks due to an inability to deal with these side effects. Things seemed to be slowly getting slightly better as the weeks and months progressed however now some new issues have been arising.
Avatar m tn Hello, It has been found that the sexual side effects associated with the hair loss medication like Propecia, includes problems with libido, ejaculations and orgasm and it could last even after patients stop taking the drug which may be months to years. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Hi, Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day and this amount of hair loss should not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp hair. Hair thinning and loss could be due to increased rate of shedding compared to the rate of regrowth. This could be due to: hormonal changes, poor nutrition, diseases, certain medications, infections and stress.
Avatar f tn 5mg every other day for my hair. Could this be the cause? He insisted that it was NOT the Finasteride (propecia). In addition, I asked if it could be low testosterone and he claimed that it was not the issue in this case. I'm an avid bodybuilder whom exercises 5-6 days a week.
Avatar n tn “Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use PROPECIA and should not handle crushed or broken PROPECIA tablets because the active ingredient may cause abnormalities of a male baby's sex organs. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the active ingredient in PROPECIA, a doctor should be consulted. PROPECIA tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed.
Avatar m tn My hair and beard have been thinning for a while , and it seems to be getting worse by the week. I have had all the relative blood tests to rule out anemia and thyroid problems and they are negative.
Avatar n tn Hi, im a 25yr old female. I have very thin hair that is weak and falls out. I know you are meant to lose 70 hairs per day but mine is more like 200 per day. It basically falls out in my hand. I take spirulina, cilcea, use ganaderma shampoo but nothing seems to be making my hair stronger and healthier. Can you recommend anything for me?

Avatar m tn hi! i used to take wellbutrin and it made my hair fall out as well. pdocs don't know all of the side effects. i stopped taking the wellbutrin (taper off, never stop taking any med cold turkey) and i've been taking centrum silver (you don't have to be 50+..LOL!) and that has helped my hair, but it has never been the same. i hate meds. i refuse to take them....but thats just me. best of luck!
Avatar n tn However, poor quality shampoos, conditioners, and styling aids may cause hair breakage that can sometimes be mistaken for hair loss. If you’re bothered by thinning hair, switching to salon quality hair care products might be a worthwhile investment. Hair transplants and scalp reduction surgery can be used to treat thinning hair. However, these treatments are expensive, painful, and carry serious risks.
Avatar m tn many other problems in my life. I am 40 years old and have always had a thick wavy head of hair. I started using a product made by Nissin which is a medicated shampoo followed by a treatment that gets massaged in. Anyone have any advice like do I wait and see how the treatment works or should I seek medical help? I don't want to face a hair transplant in the future but if this is my only option then can the hair be taken from my back or buttox?

Avatar n tn So, I went back on BC and the hair stopped falling out. And I have been for the last 3 years, but I am thinking future and I would like to have kids eventually and well I know this isn't very likely while im on BC, but at the same time I don't want a repeat of the hair thing, so my question is; are there any known medications out there that could act as an alternative to birth control when used to treat hair loss? And I am not referring to rogaine or propecia or anything like that.
