prometrium

1262373 tn?1281543782 Yes, Prometrium would not force a period.
Avatar n tn i dont know why it would say that on the bottle/box. It is used to sustain pregnancy when a doctor believes that a patients progesterone is low. Used to prevent miscarriage. Google it!
1404800 tn?1325726047 THANKS FOR THE INFO, I PRAY THAT WE BOTH HAVE HEALTHY 9 MOS!!
233053 tn?1321643821 I was just perscribed Prometrium for this cycle as well. Like you, I hope to have a positive result. I was prescribed Prometrium to help thicken/sustain my uterine lining as it was <7. Hope this is your month. Keep us posted.
290867 tn?1333569278 My friend has had several miscarriages and sees an re and a high risk ob...she was put on prometrium to help with progesterone levels to promote a healthy pregnancy...therefore, I don't think it causes miscarriages and I would say it is safe while ttc although I am making assumptions based on my friend's situation....best to ask your doc or pharmacist.
Avatar m tn the first three months of pregnancy need progesterone to sustain it. If ur not producing enough of it,u have to be on progesterone support.good luck for a safe pregnancy!!!
Avatar f tn For many years women have used progesterone in the first trimester to sustain their pregnancy. For myself mine was at a 15, they like them to be above 20. At 45, I believe that is a very good range for pregnancy and most likely do not need them. Do not take it throughout your entire pregnancy, at that point the risks are unknown.
691236 tn?1311199974 My doc just said my hormone levels were very low and he wanted to me take these to sustain the embryo if it does implant. Any knowledge/expereinece you have is greatly appreciated! Thanks girls!
Avatar f tn I DO know that as far as progesterone, you need enough of it to sustain a pregnancy. Especially in early pregnancy..something about until the placenta can fully form and take over providing the progesterone for the baby. Anyways, wished I could've been of more help. Good luck to you!! Take Care!!
325477 tn?1250551309 I believe it is an insurance policy on a pregnancy, it helps to sustain rather than make you pregnant.
175665 tn?1306459024 So I called and talked to the NP on call and she talked to the on call doctor and they decided to call in a script for Prometrium to be on the safe side. I have never used this before and was just wondering from experienced users. I am not sure how far along I am yet, I m/c 5w2d ago, didn't get AF and I have no idea when I O'd because I had NO signs of it. So I know I am early in the game so this is good. Hace you had good experiences with this? Any side effects?
Avatar f tn Its really too hard to tell at this point. Your numbers were good so I don't know why they started you on the progesterone so early...what kind of meds did you use? They so like to see if over 20 - but anything over 10 is an acceptable number. Like I said - your progesterone number has no indication if you'll get pregnant, but it is high enough to sustain a pregnancy!
628735 tn?1273875777 Some women take it every cycle after ovulation if their levels are too low to sustain a possible pregnancy...or to extend a luteal phase defect. Others start it once they get a positive pregnancy test...usually as a precaution. Like you said, it's hard to say whether a miscarriage is caused by low progesterone or if it is the miscarriage that is causing the low progesterone.
1076716 tn?1256917619 If your only problem is low progesterone, then the supplement will definitely help...however, it's almost impossible to know whether the levels are low due to your body not producing enough progesterone, or because the pregnancy is a non-viable pregnancy to begin with (and if that's the case, the supplements will not help). Most doctors will prescribe a supplement, though, just as a precaution. It won't hurt and could possibly help sustain a pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Oral prometrium made me super dizzy...so just be aware if you have to take it before driving to work or something. If you have the same reaction, you might want to plan it so you won't have to take it when you have to drive (for me, the dizziness would start about an hour after taking the pill). As for your hormone levels, it really shouldn't be a problem to use a supplement, and it could potentially help sustain a pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry about it messing with your hormones.
Avatar f tn I REALLY do not want to take any meds if possible, as I know that my body will sustain a pregnancy with no assistance. I've already refused the water u/s because my insurance will not pay for these things, and my RE is getting kind of testy with me. I read on one of these threads about someone who did an FET with no meds. Is this possible? They want me to take Medrol and prometrium (vaginally).
384150 tn?1399904816 t it be easy??? We need a large amount of progesterone to sustain a pregnancy but yet it can still back fire, this just crazy to me! Good luck!
Avatar n tn I am 21 weeks and have had to take Prometrium orally ever since week 8 of my pregnancy for low levels of progesterone, also after having 3 miscarraiges within the last year. The diagnosis was a Luteal Phase Defect. I am currently still on the Prometrium although I only take 100 mgs everyother day as oppossed to the 200 mgs I was taking daily up until weeks 16.
Avatar f tn My husband is already freaked out with my mood swings (from 1st round of clomid/follistim/pregnyl)...My stomach is bloated...is this common? We have been trying to sustain a pregnancy for several years (3 miscarriages) and I can't seem to get pregnant again. I am 38 years old and the clock is ticking fast...AAAAGH! I am crying all the time, don't have much patience for anyone....Is this common? Thanks for reading....
901431 tn?1242066034 Hi heavenlee! Since all the follicles are removed during IVF, your body will not produce enough progesterone to sustain a pregnancy on its own, and that's why a progesterone supplement is crucial in IVF treatment. I'm not on endomitrin, but on another vaginal progesterone supplement called crinone. According to my RE, the estrogen supplement is not quite as important, but it is also added after retrieval to maximize your chances.
1328947 tn?1295011446 Anything below 10 is low, so I am assuming yours must have been around there for your doctor to put you on prometrium. My High Risk OB said your body can sustain a pregnancy as long as your progesterone is greater than 5, but he prefers over 10. I know it is hard not to stress but trust that everything will be okay! Good luck!
Avatar f tn Low HCG levels can mean you're not as far along as you think or that you have or are going to miscarry....but they can give you Prometrium to sustain the pregnancy, preventing a miscarriage. Some women's levels just start out low and they go on to have a baby. I would seek out a second opinion from another OB-GYN and go from there. I can see why you're worried! Try not to panic until you know FOR SURE what is going on.
Avatar n tn So yes, your wife could indeed be ovulating, but with low progesterone (which can cause a thin uterine lining), she is unlikely to sustain a pregnancy. The only true way to know if she is ovulationg is by having the combination of an ultra sound and blood work done. This is just based on my experience, but the ladies on this forum are great and am sure they can give your more insight.
Avatar f tn t have any info on this situation. I also took it in the beginning of my pregnancy to make sure I had enough progesterone to sustain it. But I haven't taken it any other time.
Avatar n tn It was sort of complicated, but the general gist of it was that by that time the placenta and normal body hormones are strong enough to sustain it. Its the first few weeks that we sometimes need a bit of help. You have a nice strong heartbeat, so that is a really great sign. Things are obviously progressing the way they should. If you have a history of loss, I am sure your Dr. would not take any chances with this pregnancy.
666970 tn?1273759854 You take it until the end of the first trimester because by then the placenta takes over and it produces an adequate amount of progesterone to sustain the pregnancy. Prometrium never lengthened or shortened my cycles. They stayed the same. But, every woman is different. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn high testosterone even before pregnancy, then during pregnancy. I was scared because your body needs progesterone to maintain pregnancy. My doc had me use a supplement cream to boost levels and I had a smooth pregnancy. I thought maybe boy at first because of high testosterone levels, but when I found less than usual was actually available to my body (much was bound up by sex hormone binding globulin which means it's inaccessible to the body), I thought maybe girl.
934644 tn?1245336749 My HCG was 263 so they did a follow up test a week later. My progesterone rose to 17.6(taking 200 mg prometrium again) and my HCG rose to 1862. I go back this Tuesday for another blood test. I have looked and looked to find a chart with the normal HCG and progesterone levels only to find most charts have different numbers. I am worried something will go wrong again and that is the hardest part to get over. Do my levels seem to be in a good range?
