You produce progesterone naturally and it increases to help maintain pregnancy. I have been on prometrium and vaginal suppository progesterone since 4 weeks.
For example, with my current pregnancy, my hCG levels continutally rose, but my progesterone levels were on the low end. So, during weeks 10-13 I was told to take 200mg of Prometrium orally to help maintain a within normal range level. By taking additional progesterone, this had no effect on my hCG levels.
But, anytime your hCG levels are declining, it usually is indicative of a miscarriage. Sorry you are going through this. I was in your situation in March. It is tough...
It's progesterone, something some people don't make enough of naturally to maintain a pregnancy. I have been on it since the beginning. I had a leep also, and 2 previous complicated pregnancies. To me this means you are going to a cautious Dr who will do everything to help keep your pregnancy safe. I also had a preactionary cerclage and since you had a leep, this may be something else they recommend.
had any of u taken prometrium after a HPT for 12 weeks of ur pregnancy. i'm hopeful this time, just ovulated.... i had 2 miscarriages, so waiting for this time to be a +ve one.

I just need to know if anyone else experienced the same while taking Prometrium but still was able to have a healthy baby.
I took prometrium to help me not MC with my 3rd pregnancy, but only in the begining of the pregnancy, I was later put ona different type of medication to keep me from contracting until 36 weeks. i had a happy healthy little boy who has had no side effect that are apparent (he is now 2). if your concerned call your Dr office even if you don't have an appointment they can discus your concerns witht the medication over the phone or get you in sooner!

Crinone is progesterone which is given to support for the lining of the uterus and is needed to maintain an early pregnancy. There may not be enough progesterone made by the ovary during an IVF cycle, and so more progesterone is routinely given. Crinone vaginal gel, intramuscular progesterone, and Prometrium capsules are natural progesterone preparations which are safe to use during pregnancy.
I got pregnant in June and was told to take prometrium from week 10-13, although there is absolutely no data supporting the fact that prometrium (progesteron supplements) help maintain pregnancy or prevent a miscarriage. So, don't completely rely on the prometrium.
I am 26 years old and even though my OB wanted me to wait to see if I had a 3rd miscarriage, I kind of looked at this as carnal torture!!! So, I went ahead and made an appt. with an RE.
On Tuesday I was told my Saturday Progesterone levels were 17-very good. OB said to keep taking Prometrium and to take it twice daily due to bleeding. He said U/S would not show anything yet. Tuesday afternoon my bleeding stopped and did not start again until Wednesday morning. It is now Wednesday evening and my bleeding has stopped again. I was wondering if taking the Prometrium at night and in the morning could be triggering bleeding? This is not like any miscarriage I have ever had.
t work out, it had nothing to do with prometrium. There are so many women on here who took it during pregnancy to have all turn out just fine. Its a pretty common thing to give us "older" expecting moms. I already have a prescription for it as I am to start taking it again as soon as I get another positve pregnancy test. As far as I know its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy. Also, congrats on being through your first trimester!
high testosterone even before pregnancy, then during pregnancy. I was scared because your body needs progesterone to maintain pregnancy. My doc had me use a supplement cream to boost levels and I had a smooth pregnancy. I thought maybe boy at first because of high testosterone levels, but when I found less than usual was actually available to my body (much was bound up by sex hormone binding globulin which means it's inaccessible to the body), I thought maybe girl.
I REALLY do not want to take any meds if possible, as I know that my body will sustain a pregnancy with no assistance. I've already refused the water u/s because my insurance will not pay for these things, and my RE is getting kind of testy with me. I read on one of these threads about someone who did an FET with no meds. Is this possible? They want me to take Medrol and prometrium (vaginally).
ve been taking prometrium vaginally twice daily for 13 days now (started the day after my IUI) and on day 10, I started noticing a headache, a dull gnawing sensation on both sides of my head. It is day 14 of prometrium now (CD32) and I am still feeling this. If I bend over to pick up something it hurts even more.
I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks, when they u/s me, the baby don't show movement and no heart beat..
I should only take the prometrium for first 12 weeks, but my OB told me to continued the left pills, they last till my 15&1/2weeks and on that same day we heard my baby's heart's beating..
what do you think is the reason why my pregnancy stopped at above said weeks. is it bec.
I have had one miscarriage at 4 months and I fear I am probably having another one with my second pregnancy I have been prescribed Prometrium and I am just wondering if it has done any good to any one etc.
