Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.
My progesterone dropped during my 4th week of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed prometrium. I am currently experiencing brief but horrible cramping accompanied with some minor bleeding. I've read the prescription information pamphlet over and over, and that is apparently a side effect. But with my history...I just need to know if anyone else experienced the same while taking Prometrium but still was able to have a healthy baby.
I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and my doctor prescribed prometrium 200mg and and I have been cutting open the pill and taking the medicine that way because I can not swallow pills, so I want to know if the medication is still working in my body?
I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..
The doctor prescribed prometrium for her. She is scared to death to take the medication because it has a strong warning on the label "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT OR ANTICIPATE GETTING PREGNANT. Why would the doctor prescribe prometrium if the twin is OK at this time?
t cause m/c actually it prevents it. Many women take prometrium to support pregnancy. Many women have low level of progesterone so they start prometrium.It is safe to take. I started having some brown spotts the day when i had to do the first beta and my RE started me on prometrium and the spotting stopped. If you're having a m/c is not because of prometrium.Check your levels to see if is a good pregnancy.

I should only take the prometrium for first 12 weeks, but my OB told me to continued the left pills, they last till my 15&1/2weeks and on that same day we heard my baby's heart's beating..

By all means, if you have been having unprotected sex and expected a period to come, go ahead and take a pregnancy test. Two weeks after you think you ovulated, most pregnancy tests are accurate.
But it can take a while for prometrium to work to bring on a period (especially the first time you use it), so that might be what is happening.
If you're trying to get pregnant, I hope that is the reason your period didn't come when expected after stopping the prometrium.
I am 21 weeks and have had to take Prometrium orally ever since week 8 of my pregnancy for low levels of progesterone, also after having 3 miscarraiges within the last year. The diagnosis was a Luteal Phase Defect.
I am currently still on the Prometrium although I only take 100 mgs everyother day as oppossed to the 200 mgs I was taking daily up until weeks 16.
My ob/gyn has put me on Prometrium to help regulate my menstrual cycle. My husband and I are trying to concieve our second child. With my first child I was put on prometrium for the first trimester due to low progesterone levels. This month I thought there was a chance I was pregnant and he told me instead of taking it days 16-25 I should remain on it until I know for sure if I am pregnant. I still have not gotten my period, and I am 3 days late.
t exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication. When I returned to the doctor a week later, he said that my hormone level came back at 12.4 and informed me that that is extremely low. He said that my body would have had to have produced more of the hormone otherwise I would have already miscarried. (Before the appointment with him, I had an ultrasound done that confirmed everything was normal.
your doctor is correct. Prometrium COULD cause birth defects. I was told to take it from weeks 10 through 13. I miscarried at 15 weeks and 6w4d (I have no living children) so my fertility specialist & OBGyn. thought that as a precaution I should be on it to help my body transfer from producing it naturally to having the placenta take over. (They thought that is what may have caused my 1st miscarriage).
Prometrium is one of the most misused and abused medications during pregnancy.
I have had one miscarriage at 4 months and I fear I am probably having another one with my second pregnancy I have been prescribed Prometrium and I am just wondering if it has done any good to any one etc.

Hi, I am having my progestrone levels very low so doctor prescribe me to take prometrium 100mg twice daily, now my question is, I got BFP when I did HTP and now I am 5 weeks 2 days.
So now can I contiune to take prometrium after knowing that I am pregnant ?
then are some positive as well as negative responses regarding this, my doctor said that it will be of no harm contiuning in the first trimester.

HI everyone I am 3 weeks pregnant and my doctor said my progesterone levels are low and prescribed Prometrium for me to take vaginally until I am 10 weeks pregnant, I am worried because I read up on the drug and there seem to be some serious side effects. Can anyone share their experiences with me?
I was on prometrium with my last pregnancy, and although the pregnancy didn't work out, it had nothing to do with prometrium. There are so many women on here who took it during pregnancy to have all turn out just fine. Its a pretty common thing to give us "older" expecting moms. I already have a prescription for it as I am to start taking it again as soon as I get another positve pregnancy test. As far as I know its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy.
I talked to the doctor today who told me to stop the prometrium and I should expect my period in 2-3 days. I had my hopes up that perhaps I was pregnant because I know some women who have not gotten a positive on a home pregnancy test until a week after the expected period. I think I had my hopes up too much when the period was late when in fact it may have been the progesterone that was delaying my period. Has anyone had experience on progesterone like this?
my doctor put me on prometrium. 1st month 10 days later i got my period. 2nd month 10 days later i only spotted for a day and no period. Did this happend to anyone? What could it be?
