I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. He was right, I have never had any of the things people talk about. What I am wondering, would I maybe not even had the symptoms anyway? I have been on it for 16 years now. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.

Three days ago I went to a new doctor to get the hormones adjusted and she said she does not prescribe bioidenticals and gave me a prescription for Prempro. I do not want to take this and I told her so. She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.

I went with the natural HRT patch derived from a plant instead of the pill Premarin or Prempro derived from horse mare urine. It works great for me and I am in the lowest dose .5.

have one next month none that went on until may had a 7day period then in june it hit I started what was a 23 day period very heavy at times stoped for 5 days then started again. went back to my ob-gyn who told me it was menopause. hormone imbalance put me on prempro I am still bleeding not as heavy been taking it for almost a month he told me it could take up to 3 months to even out in the mean time I think im going crazy cry one minute ok the next along with other issues.

The risks of estrogen replacement in menopause are probably exaggerated by the media, but there are some risks - you should only use estrogen at the lowest effective dose, for the minimum amount of time, to get relief. You may want to try it out for awhile and see if you feel better.

The next day, September 18, I abruptly stopped the Prempro and let my doctor know I felt I had been on the Prempro long enough and also due to the breast cysts. She tells me that the lowest dose of XL is 75mg. She has put me on 37.5mg daily Venlafaxine. I tried this as 150mg dose, and it was not the same at all as Effexor. Is there any alternative. I know Venlafaxine, is supposed to be the same as Effexor, but I don't think it is - at least my body said it was different!! I am now wondering what the next step is for me. m not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better. I am having trouble with words, simple words, I forget how to spell them, or even say them. I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I just started prempro 4 nights ago, and my hot flashes (and subsequent clod flashed) and night seats have gotten worse, not better.
