Common Questions and Answers about Prempro for perimenopause

Avatar f tn It seems more common to prescribe birth control pills than hormone replacement (Prempro) during perimenopause. And a course of progestin seems to be more commonly prescribed to stop prolonged and/or heavy bleeding.
237053 tn?1258828426 Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. I stayed on it anyway for several more years without insidence then the pedulum swung back and some people have resumed its use again. The main point to me is I am pretty sure hormones have some HUGE part in MS and I so urge the drug companies to try to find out just what part they play! As pregnancy shows, something is being missed!
Avatar n tn I am 49 and think I have been going through perimenopause for a few years( periods irregular, increased anxiety, heart racing, trouble with memory, occasional hot flashes). The latest is the inability to have an orgasm. That made me go see my doctor who prescribed Prempro. My maternal grandmother died with breast cancer. I have a history of seizure disorder and on Dilantin. After 2 days of taking Prempro I decided not for me.
Avatar f tn I was on Prempro for about 12 yrs. Weaned off between Feb and Apr. Flashes are more like showers and pour out of my scalp too. Sleeping problems too. Just this past few weeks those sweats are much improved and down to just a few a day. I am 63. It took a good six mos. to be tollerable. Now I start Evista for lcis and osteoporosis. That is supposed to cause flashes. My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes.
Avatar f tn Have been taking Prempro for 14 yrs. Hot flashes and osteopenia (pre-osteoporosis). Awaiting biopsy results for microcalcifications around or in ducts. Can prempro increase risk of BC, in particular, DCIS?
Avatar n tn My mom, who is now age 67, was on prempro for over 20 yrs. She had a hysterectomy at age 32 and therefore experienced menopause medically. She was not put on hormones at that time but later her ob/gyn started her on prempro. Her ob/gyn retired 5 yrs ago and the new doctor she began seeing is quite a bit younger. He flipped when he found out my mom had been on prempro that long. He told her in his opinion it was totally unnecessary and took her off of it.
Avatar f tn Three days ago I went to a new doctor to get the hormones adjusted and she said she does not prescribe bioidenticals and gave me a prescription for Prempro. I do not want to take this and I told her so. She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.
Avatar f tn This is very interesting and would be preferable for me rather than going back on the Prempro. I had a needle biopsy 13 years ago which was benign. I had a partial mastectomy in 2001, also benign, so I guess I kind of panicked this last mammogram when it showed benign cysts. My hot flashes and night sweats have subsided some, thank goodness. Many thanks for responding.
Avatar n tn So, yes, I would guess you could have mood swings due to menopause any time after. I am 59 and have been on Prempro for about 7 years and just went off them and my hot flashes now are worse than ever! I have severe insomnia (I take sleeping pills every night and sometimes they don't help!) I have been sleeping with the windows open even when it's getting down into the 30s and 40s at night and that helps a lot.
Avatar n tn Are these symptoms menopausal & HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THEM: LIGHTHEADEDNESS - CONSTANT SINCE MAY. Stomach bloat/belching/gas.....cancers are ruled out THANK GOD!! All started with thyroid/menopause troubles. Thyroid numbers are excellent now so I'm left to think it's menopause. #3: Doc prescribed a VERY LOW DOSE of Prempro to start me on due to symptoms. Anyone have luck or adverse effects on this??? I need something.
Avatar f tn Oncologist opinion that since I am 62, and have been on Prempro for 11 yrs that HRT may have contributed to LCIS, because although LCIS is found in women my age, it is usually found in younger women. Just finished weaninf off the Prempro. Having sweats and flashes, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes.
Avatar f tn I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?) I've been on Prempro over 10 years and understand this could be the cause of the benign cysts. For the last couple years or so I've been on a very low dose (0.3-1.5).
Avatar f tn 40 is a little young to start Menopause, but not unheard of, it can happen. I started @ 49, for 1 year, I would bleed for 7 weeks, then it stop, started, did that for a year. I have not had a period for 2 yrs now. I started gaining weight a little weight in my mid section, I also got very depressed. I'm not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better.
Avatar n tn It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
Avatar f tn I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
Avatar f tn I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. Avatar n tn I am a Mitral Valve Repair,Cleveland Clinic former patient. Will Hoodia interact with my taking Toporal, zoloft and prempro?

864502 tn?1382640699 I was told a couple of months ago that I am going through perimenopause. I have irregular cycles. My 1st cycle was when I was 15 years old. I had one cycle in September and it did not come back the next month. I took birth control pills when I was 16....The 1st set of pills made me gain weight and the 2nd set made me sick. So now my cycles are 2-5 years apart. The last cycle I had was in May 2007.
594293 tn?1222655980 lightheadedness (sometimes it lasts for days), feeling jittery or nervous, mood swings, chills, nausea, change in appetite and bowel habits, irregular periods (still monthly though).....that's the majority of it. It had not even occurred to me that it could be perimenopause until a few weeks ago. I went for blood work yesterday so I won't hear results until next week.

Avatar n tn ve been having ovulation pain for the last 3 years or so - 2/3 days of cramping in mid cycle and then again just before my period started. I thought this might mean I'm perimenopausal, since change is the cycle may precede menopause by several years. In the last few months, the pains became stronger and they cramping lasts longer, sometimes from ovulation until menstruation, sometime accompanied by nausea. Occasionally I'd feel a twinge of pain in one of my ovaries.
Avatar f tn I'm 44 and have been very irregular with my periods for the last few years. I'm on the pill (Yaz) and never miss any. I'm still irregular on the pill even though my GYN put me on it to try and regulate me. I sometimes get my period during the "active" pills and not during the "inactive" pills. My cycle would last anywhere from 3 days to 14 days and would be very light to severe. The last day of my last period was May 1st. I haven't had a period since then.
Avatar f tn after 30 odd years of having 1 or 2 periods a year due to pcos, i have been having a period every 18 days for the last 9 months. Im also having bad headaches and bad palpitations too (worse before my period), the thing is, ive had the usual heart test and hormones checked and all is normal! How would pcos afect my hormones and does it make a difference in perimenopause?
377493 tn?1356502149 I have always been a 28 day girl. For as long as I have been tracking ovulation, I o around day 13 or 14. Some of you know from my last post that I have started having strong symptoms around ovulation...sore breasts, bloating, crabby..lol, etc. This month those symptoms lasted right up until I got AF. Today is cycle day 3, they went away yesterday completely. I know this is due to increased progesterone, but am wondering if you think it might be a symptom of perimenopause.
Avatar f tn I think that I am into my first year of Perimenopause that I have experiences with all Symptoms. Did anyone like me as the first year going through it? It seems aging has its price. I would like to exchange notes with people like me so perhaps we could share better tips to deal with it together. As Perimenopause may cause bone lost so I am trying to add in some Vitamin, did anyone take some Vitaman to prevent bone lost?
