1618806 tn?1304734477 Salad binge?! I eat salads every day. LOL! But I'm highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it.
Avatar n tn I am confused as to if table salt iodized contain potassium ? does rock salt contain potassium? Does soy products contain potassium? How can low sodium be increased and high potassium be reduced ...Please give ideas if any one knows ..Thanx ..
Avatar m tn It also seems to make clear that the type of potassium salt you are taking (chloride, citrate, gluconate, acetate, bicarbonate, etc) does not matter. The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium. This means that if I am willing to take 20 of these cheap little pills a day to get my 2000mg (2g) of potassium that is just fine.
Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.

Avatar f tn You might want to try some supplements like Potassium and Magnesium. Many people suffer from cramps and spasms from a lack of these minerals. They are available at drug stores. You might want to talk to a doctor before using Potassium as it can cause problems if you take the wrong amount. - It is a salt substitute.
Avatar n tn Liberal use of salt substitutes that contain potassium chloride can add to the potassium load. Liberal use of these products in people with kidney disease can cause dangerously high levels of potassium to build in the bloodstream.

Avatar f tn major electrolytes in the body are sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium (all various forms of salt)...... they must all be in balance and each have their own symptoms of deficiency, which can also overlap.
Avatar f tn Sodium Chloride is table salt.....i dont know of any abusive/addictive characteristics of the liquid form. maybe the bottle is mislabeled?
Avatar m tn Also buy the salt substitute potassium chloride. Try this it could take a few months to see an improvement.

617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
Avatar f tn If I need salt and potassium, then I go for v8. If I just need salt, I get cheap ramen - it has a very high salt content or bouillon cubes. Sometimes the salt gets me out of more trouble than my other meds so I keep a lot of that stuff around.
Avatar m tn That was bread free, whole food paleo diet with no salt added and no products with added salts (like commercial broths). So my salt intake was very, very low but excretion was still around 6 grams a day. This was still considered a normal excretion by the doctor but I don't think he knew how rigorous I was avoiding salt. Also, anti diuretic hormone and the other one (can't remember) where within normal ranges. Thanks for reading so far!
Avatar n tn Potassium and Calcium and important electrolytes in muscles. Potassium is one of those electrolytes you dont really want to be messed up in your body. High potassium levels can cause heart dysrrhythmias, since your heart is a big muscle, Other signs of hyperkalemia(increased potassium) are nausea vomitting, restlessness, irritability, I am looking in my book right now to make sure i can give you the most accurate information. Chloride there is not much on.

Avatar n tn Bronchosaline for as you described is no longerr available in the US. I was told by a phamacist to make my own - 1/4 tsp salt (I use picling salt without iodine) and 8 oz of water. If you use the metric system I don't know the conversions but could look them up and tell them to you if you would like. I mix a fresh batch every time I am going ot use it. Take care.
Avatar m tn Have you had your Potassium levels checked? When we perspire, we deplete our Potassium. I find that taking either Potassium chloride (salt substitute) or Potassium Iodide helps me with "hot flashes" better than hormones or anything else. I just take a little with ice cold water and that seems to cool me off immediately. - Why you sweat is a mystery that only you and your doctor can solve. - But try the potassium, it just might be that it's too low.
Avatar n tn The salt will manage the potassium naturally. Salt your food extra - you need it now. I carry sea salt in a container in my purse as it tasted better (oddly, it has lower sodium, but I like it more).
Avatar f tn I read something where one of the electrolytes either sodium or chloride increases during ovulation. I think its sodium mainly, and also potassium. I would have to look it up again. I no there is a fertility watch that detects the rise of sodium level which would indicate ovulation.
