Avatar n tn Potassium nitrate is a chemical compound with the formula KNO3. It occurs as a mineral niter and is a natural solid source of nitrogen. Its common names include saltpetre (saltpeter in American English), from Medieval Latin sal petræ: "stone salt" or possibly "Salt of Petra" and nitrate of potash. The name Peru saltpetre or Chile saltpetre (American Peru saltpeter or Chile saltpeter) refers not to potassium nitrate but to a similar chemical sodium nitrate.

Avatar f tn I read something where one of the electrolytes either sodium or chloride increases during ovulation. I think its sodium mainly, and also potassium. I would have to look it up again. I no there is a fertility watch that detects the rise of sodium level which would indicate ovulation.

Avatar n tn If you prepare your own saline for use in a nebulizer the essential thing is to insure sterility. Any bacteria in the fluid will be aerosolized and end up in the lung. Distilled sterile water would be the best choice.

Avatar n tn When the water in the sweat evaporates, it leaves the salts (sodium, chloride and potassium) behind on your skin, which is why your skin tastes salty. If there is any excess of salts then it can give a bitter taste.Excess salty sweat is found in cystic fibrosis.Symptoms are salty tasting or bitter skin, constant coughing or large amounts of mucus and respiarory difficulty. Did you apply any moisturizer beforehand? This can also cause bitter taste of skin.
Avatar n tn Hello, The bitter taste on the skin can be due to more amount of sodium or salts being secreted in the sweat. Avatar f tn In physiology, the primary ions of electrolytes are sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (Cl−), hydrogen phosphate (HPO42−), and hydrogen carbonate (HCO3−). The electric charge symbols of plus (+) and minus (−) indicate that the substance in question is ionic in nature and has an imbalanced distribution of electrons, the result of chemical dissociation".
1618806 tn?1304734477 Salad binge?! I eat salads every day. LOL! But I'm highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it.
Avatar f tn This looks like electrolyte imbalance involving sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride. Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 deficiency should also be looked into. You may need to run blood tests for the above mentioned deficiencies. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
