Avatar m tn Melcyl cream contains methoxsalen which is used for lip vitiligo and psoriasis while pimecrolimus also is used for treatment of vitiligo. Methoxsalen modifies the way skin cells receive the UVA radiation, allegedly clearing up the disease. Pimecrolimus is Immunomodulator that suppresses the immune system where applied, allowing the melanocytes to return. Your doctor must be suspecting vitiligo for which you have been prescribed this treatment. Vitiligo is a very stubborn condition.
16465326 tn?1448202692 I started to get depigmentation on my face and one hand starting about five years ago. The Dermatologist told me that it was Vitiligo and that the only partial cure for this condition was PUVA therapy and narrow-band UVB phototherapy. I was to go twice weekly for a year. I opted out as I did not have the time due to work. Also, no guarantee it would work.
Avatar m tn Hi there! Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that causes depigmentation of the skin.UVB phototherapy, PUVA phototherapy are the mainstay of treatment. Topical steroids are useful only in the early stages of the disease. They are not useful once the diagnosis is established. Usually low potency steroids are prescribed in vitiligo. If you think that your condition is worsening it is best to see the doctor as soon as possible. A timely checkup and reassurance will be really helpful.
Avatar m tn I have been doing narrowband UVB with pentaderm psolaren cream and topical steroid cream(at night) treatment since february with 98% of the patches repigmented but i am puzzled . Doesn't vitiligo have a symmetrical kind of appearance?
Avatar m tn I am having vitiligo for the past 9 yrs. My new doctor has advised me Azoran 50 - 1tab daily and Vitix gel & asked me to stop NB UVB treatment altogether. Another doctor consulted earlier had advised NB UVB 8.0 JOULES & application of Tacroz Forte cream & Tenovate cream, which I am currently undergoing. But Vitiligo is not stable yet inspite of UVB exposure at such high doses. I am confused. Kindly advise as to which line of treatment to follow.
Avatar f tn However, at the moment he thinks that is fungus. He prescribed me lamisil cream and then after two weeks i apply to it skin repair cream. He couldn't say that it is vitiligo because at the moment i have the suntan and he told me that we will see it again after december because the body looses its sun tan. he also made that ultra violet mechanism which i don't know what it is.

Avatar n tn How are you? Vitiligo or leukoderma is a chronic skin disease that causes loss of pigment, resulting in irregular pale patches of skin. Vitiligo is caused by a combination of autoimmune, genetic and environmental factors. Phototherapy and chemical depigmentation may also be beneficial.

Avatar f tn 19 year old male began having depigmentation around eyes, mouth, side of torso, full thumbs, and on finger tips at 18 years old. Dermatologist and GP think vitiligo but no visible improvement from prednizone 50 mg, betamethasone dipropionate .05% topical, elidel pimecromlimus cream 1%. Biopsy of skin on finger stated “a normal density of epidermal melanocyte which argues against vitiligo. No fungal, organism or increased much were found.
Avatar m tn I went to see a dermatologist recently and he checked it with a UV light and stated that it might be vitiligo, mainly the corner areas of the light patch. I googled for symptoms of vitiligo and other than the lighter skin I do not see much of a case for it. The area isn't too light, it's a lighter shade of my brown skin and it definitely burns/itches (very much feels like eczema).
Avatar m tn A weak ago we consulted a skin specialist who within a minute told us, it was the beginning of vitiligo, prescribed a cream and a tablet for two months. Today we consulted another dermatologist for a second opinion. She was of the opinion that since the patches have started three years ago, and the fact that the colour is not milky white which it would have been in three years and since the spreading is not widespread, the chances of vitiligo is slim.
Avatar n tn Dear ma123951f, I have seen the pictures sent by you. It was indeed of great help. As far as the lesion is concerned it is not completely depigmented as in a typical case of vitiligo. The lesion can be ""Pre-Vitiligo" suggesting that you are develpoing vitiligo lesions which are common on genitals in patient suffering from the disease. Your lesions are asymptomatic suggesting that they are not a fungal or some other kind of infection.
Avatar n tn t know how i manage to catch it,it itches,i went and get meds ,i was given advantan cream and exoderil cream,it goes away but comes back again,do you think i am spreading it with my finges when i apply the cream?when will this thing go away?
Avatar m tn Hi I have a daughter 16 years old. A month ago she has been diagnosed with genital vitiligo. Since then she has been treated with a corticoid cream. The disease has only be detected on genital areas no further advance. I am very concern on how this disease can evolve. Is there any suggestion on this matter?. What should she do to prevent further advance to other visible parts of her body?.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had success with light treatment combined with topical cream in getting rid of vitiligo? I have been have treatments 2 times a week for 4 months and it does not seem to be helping at all.
Avatar n tn Went to my internest, he prescribed me Pimecrolimus cream to use twice daily , found little improvement after using for 6 months , but dark spot discoloration is still there.
Avatar n tn It sounds like vitiligo. It's pretty common. My mom has it on her arms. I've heard that sometimes you can get white spots from a fungus, so that's a possibility. If it's a fungus you could try antifungal cream to see if that would help. If it's vitiligo, you may need to see a doctor to see if anything can be done.
