Percocet and memory loss

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet and memory loss

5986700 tn?1380794980 I am detoxing off Tramadol now but don't seem to have any problems with memory loss. When I was coming off Percocet and other opiates, I couldn't even talk right. I couldn't even remember what my husband said the day before either. It did get better but it took me a year to get my mind back. BUT I still have terrible short term memory loss. I think it also had a lot to do with self esteem when it came to me talking to people. But mostly the drugs.
Avatar n tn You're doing well. The short term memory loss was a big concern of mine, too. I talked to my Dr. about it and she said it was the fentanyl, and yes, opioids do cause it, but the memory comes back when you stop using them. I have a great long term memory, but ask me what I had for lunch two days ago and I have no idea. I am constantly looking at the calendar because I forget the date several times in one day. Welcome to the forum. There are some fantastic people here.
Avatar n tn I have herniated discs in my lower back that will require sergury to correct the problem. My doctor has prescibed Percocet for the pain until I can see a nuerosergeon and have a date set for my operation. I have been on pain meds for about four months now on and off. Whenever I try to stay off of the medication, the pain is too much for me to take.I am due to have the operation in the next three to four weeks tops because my appointment with the surgeon is in one week.
1529480 tn?1291880734 I don't remember how I got there, in fact, I don't remember the whole month of February(2010), and now I suffer from short term memory loss. My friends tell me that during the month of February I became a different person. I was mean, yelling and cursing at my friends, I was sleeping a lot and never seemed to know if it was morning or night. I also had a car accident that I don't remember. It seems I crossed over a lane of on coming traffic and slammed sideways into a concrete culvert!
Avatar n tn I went off all my meds (valium, vicodin, darvocet, oxycontin, percocet) cold turkey and rehabed myself. When I finally finished the 2-3 weeks of withdrawal hell I had problems with my short term memory. I had to relearn how to learn and remember things. Now I am about 6 years off the drugs but I still have occassional problems with my memory and learning certain subjects like math. Was my drug use related to the problems I have learning math now?
12953 tn?1270757997 Right now I take on percocet pill I think it's 10/650 mg (yeah I know it is)before bed and it helps me to sleep and relieves my pain til the next night. So that's it. Again thank you for your responses and if anyone has anything else to add I will appreciate that also. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Avatar n tn My mother in laws doctor has prescribed that she take TWELVE percocet a day for the pain associated with osteoporosis. She is obviously addicted to the stuff as she runs out before the time to get more. During these times she in unconscious on the couch for litterally days. She says she has no problem how ever anytime a family member needs pain medication she will try to get a hold of it. She feels that since her doctor prescribes it everything is fine.
768994 tn?1244146151 Yet, as much as i try to tolerate the low bk pain(yes, L4-L5), coping with as little pain med in my system, I'm now am or have bn sufferring from memory loss and other complications from side effects! We tried to concieve another child to no avail! Now, the only one which sustains me and makes me become clean is my precious nine yr old! I can't live with the memories of my precious little human being always wanting daddy(yes, this too, she's daddys' little girl) to play with.
955456 tn?1316230779 One HAS to believe that in fact addiction does lead to the loss of everything and eventually Jails Institutions and Death. Addiction is a lot easier to nip in the bud physically but maybe not emotionally because one has not experienced the pain first hand. Some need more pain than others to quit. Some don't make it and end up end stage and their addiction wins. If you want to get off of the pills you have to change your behavior. 1) STOP SNORTING your pills! 2) Stop spiking your dose!
Avatar n tn I had hernia surgery and was prescribed percocet 10mg.. It been 2 months and have stopped them but feeling really depressed and anxious. How long will this take to subside??? I usually half the 10mg and take half at a time. at most take 5 halfs a day..???
433485 tn?1321816990 But sometimes, despite these steps, those meds will still tend to goof up the digestion, so your doc suggested some fiber and laxative type things, and so you might have luck with another rather natural type of lax pill called "Senocot," you take one pill, then the next day take another, and you'll have you a bowel movement the following day. Do not take them routinely, just kind of rotate whatever all you're doing, or you can become dependent on laxatives in general.
1684282 tn?1505701570 I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
Avatar f tn I forgot to mention I also noticed a difficulty to find the right words, stuttering, and that my short term memory loss increased following the last rehab therapy that I posted above.
Avatar f tn I had detoxed from a fairly high dose of percocet habit and of curse during that time I didn't really eat or exercise. So since I didn't take care of my body then I sure in the hell didn't feel like taking care of it after detoxing. All I wanted to do was feel sorry for myself----did alot of that. It was almost like I was going through the grieving process from losing my doc. Isn't that something, grieving for something that made my life a complete mess!
Avatar f tn I forgot to mention I also noticed a difficulty to find the right words, stuttering, and that my short term memory loss increased following the last rehab therapy that I posted above. What the heck do I do now?

422881 tn?1257607179 I was feeling better after stopping the Riba but in the last month or 2 I have started noticing more side effects like increased joint, bone and muscle pains, headaches lasting a week, memory loss, and a feeling of Vertigo…..and not the same feeling I had when I was still anemic and had brain fog. I initially chalked this up to the fact that I was still on IFN, increased physical activity at work, and the weather turning colder, but now I’m starting to wonder.
Avatar n tn I am glad you are willing to give the "clean" life a chance. Admitting it is really the first step, not trying to sound corny! The whole time I used pills I would never admit it was a problem because then you either 1. Know that something must change because you realize your an addict or 2.Go on living life as an active addict. Neither choice appealed to me but when my family members figured it out and I lost my job due to being an addict I realized something was terribly wrong.
Avatar n tn Finally, research has demonstrated GABA to be a very effective analgesic, eliminating pain from chronic conditions such as arthritis and lower back pain. GABA most startling effect is in body fat loss. How does it work? Modern advances in medical research have uncovered a number of previously unknown facts concerning fat storage and energy utilization by the body.
Avatar f tn my dr says that a small percentage of people test negative for certain opiates because of a enzyme in their body. i have even taken percocet in front of him and waited 3 hrs and then did a urine test and still tested negative for percocet. thank god i have a good dr[not a pain management dr but regular primary dr] and thank god he didnt turn his back on me but went the extra mile to find out what would cause me to test negative instead of positive.
Avatar m tn When I explained that the Vicodin and the Percocet I have at home don’t help I was told to try it and see. My concern is that the longer I wait the worst this will get. Should I be seeking additional help? What damage can this voltage do to you spine or brain? Is this delayed response normal for this type of accident? Will the damage (if any) show in an MRI or is there other tests I should request?
Avatar n tn also, i would suggest you let a friend know what you are experiencing , lightheadness, confusion, memory loss etc, and have some support and an aware friend with you when you DO go out, in the event anything happens....also, try to drink water if you can instead of alcohol, if this is not possible, at the very LEAST try and limit your intake to only a few drinks...and please, come back and keep us posted.... wishing you all the best....
544292 tn?1268886268 So I dug up some more info that I wanna share ... in case you are dying of curiousity. Avatar n tn The make me completely calm and relaxed, and not wozy and out of it like benzos do. I have never tried to obtain them illegal or without reason, but have come to this conclusion on occassions when I have been given them for legitamate pain. I am curious to know if someone can offer any scientific or medical explaination as to why opiates are so effective. I am also curious whether there are any anxiety medications that incorporate opiate therapy.
Avatar f tn And still go through life with memory loss, sweating like a cow, being cold all of the time(even at 72F degrees in the house), hair loss, etc etc etc the list goes on! Thank God that there is a Fix to it ^_^ I'm excited!
Avatar n tn I started losing weight when I stopped my normal eating habits when this condition began and the anxiety started. Could the extreme stress, anxiety and depression be causing digestion problems and weight loss?
Avatar n tn She is 73 years old and has been taking Loritabs and Percocet (sp) for over 10 years. She fell and broke her hip in 2005 and has recovered. She was double dosing the two meds. before I took her to meet her Pain Dr. The Dr. took away her Percocet meds. and let her keep the Loritabs. The Loritabs have been increased in potency. She is now forgetting to pay bills, put away her food from the super markets, won't answer the phone, does not take care of house anymore, does not let her dogs out side.
